  1. Oh, man. I'm loving this song, but I can't put a finger on why. I hated Star Fox Adventures (although, in retrospect, the music was pretty rockin'), and I don't have good memories of the source material, which is usually what pushes a ReMix from 'good music' to 'oh-my-God-it's-my-childhood!' status. This isn't my style of music, either - so, despite having three strikes against it in my books, it's still a pleasure to listen to. And I don't know why!

Moral of the story - musical tastes can be modified by random new discoveries. Thanks, Level 99 and Luiza! I can't explain how I like your tune, but, by God, I do!

  2. A retardedly ambient Death Wind - I love the source track. It feels like it wants to be ambient but strong - like a hurricane or something. Always wanted to hear that.

As a side-note, an F-ZERO album project would be win in itself, regardless of style.

    Death Wind:

  3. How? Most of the games were just little beeps 'n' boops. I mean, if you've got any ideas, fire away, but...I can't see how this is ReMixable. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Nintendo's take on the G&W sound (

), but I don't know how else to take the sounds.
  4. ...My pants are dirty now. Thanks, guys.

No, serious - holy SHIT, son! This is FUCKIN' NOBLE! I've already decided to not go to class tomorrow. In fact, I'm not leaving my apartment. I'm doing this nostalgia-style - just me, DKC 2 and Serious Monkey Business.

And pizza. I may or may not return to this post - I'll try to remember - but on first listens everything is frickin' awesome! Thanks Geoffrey and Bahamut - you guys should be proud of yourselves for producing this colon-crushing album of victorious mega-win.

  5. use 'asshattery' then

    Okay - there.

    Neblix's comment struck me -

Is this a common association - maturity and studiousness, thereby immaturity and video games in youth?

I'm getting a sense too that people are playing different games; is there a difference there? Put another way, does it make a big difference whether a game is co-operative (TF2, for example) versus non-competitive (say a free-for-all)?

I'm also interested in what sort of 'asshattery' older versus younger gamers engage in. For example, in your experience, do kids or adults swear more? Which group tends to be tactically stupid (i.e.: stealing vehicles/items)? Or is there a difference - does a stupid adult gamer do the same things that a stupid kid gamer does?

Finally, is there a difference in your mind as to why people do this? For example, is the kid gamer cursing everyone for the same reason that an adult gamer would?

Thanks again for your input! And, once again, please let me know (by PM or here) if you are uncomfortable with being cited in a paper.

  6. Neblix's comment struck me -

"There are some mature kids out there, they're just more often found wading through piles of library books and studying 8 hours a day for a quiz rather than playing video games"

I'm also interested in what sort of 'assholery' (a bastardization, I know...) older versus younger gamers engage in. For example, in your experience, do kids or adults swear more? 7. Okay, so the idea I'm getting here is:

    1) Gamers should be segregated online by age due to issues of maturity and/or mature content.

    2) On the whole, younger gamers are less considerate than older gamers, although exceptions exist.

    3) There's a sense that younger gamers are deliberately offensive (teabagging, cursing unnecessarily) in an attempt to act older than they are.

    4) Youth with mics are inherently more annoying than youth sans the mic.

    5) Younger gamers who do not 'act their age' are fine; and

    6) Younger gamers have a bad reputation in a given online community.

Is this the right idea? Also, to expand into MMORPGs, is this list still accurate in, say, World of Warcraft? Thanks for your comments, too. They are much appreciated.

  8. Well, a mark of a good researcher is the person who is able to generate sound opinions backed up by data...

Yeah, but I can't taint the research. If I said 'frickin' 12-year olds are ruining vidya games with their retarded trollery' I colour the research. The idea is, I monitor the responses to gain insight which may or may not bolster the opinion I already have.

The disclaimer simply means I can't contribute an opinion for fear of tainting the data flow.

  9. What's your opinion on this sort of thing? Say, you're playing Team Fortress 2, and a 12-year old comes on. What does that mean to you? (i.e.: what do you think the 12-year old would do? Is this 12-year old annoying? How do you know the player is young? Do you go out of your way to interact with them? Is age a variable in the 'goodness' of a player? If you are a young gamer, do you experience discrimination online?)

Disclaimer: I'll be using these results (as well as in-game responses and other sources) to do part of a research paper. I may cite your user name (unless you don't want me to, in which case I will not). Because this is research, I won't put any of my own opinions on here. Thanks for helping me out!

  10. Can this be my theme song, too? Or, like this played in reverse or something? Krypt, how can you not want this as a theme song? This is easily the single greatest anthem ever! I can just see it now - here comes Hu Jintao (Premier of China), off the plane...and, this song. The Queen of Great Britain meets President Obama...and here's the song again.

Oh, please IBBIAZ? Can this reversed be my song? Or like modified somehow, because it's Gollgagh's now...this would be perfect for my graduation! I'll walk up to get my diploma, and...oh, man.

  11. Is there any way to sort tunes by genre on OCR? I ask because I think it might not be an all-bad idea. Say you're looking for house music, or acoustic, or whatever - the way things are now, if you want to see if there's a popular song in your preferred style (say, Gerudo Valley), you have to click on all of them. I don't know if that's intentional (so as to force everyone to listen to all the songs until they hit one in the style they want), and I'd be more than willing to compile a list of genres and tunes that fit them. I'm not sure what sort of genres we'd want, or if anyone could work with me so as to create a consensus of sorts: hence, this thread.

Right now, I have this list:

    Electronica:

    - House

    - Trance

    - Ambient

    - Experimental

    - Downbeat

    - Drum 'n' Bass (DnB)

[not sure whether dance should go in, too]

    Classical:

    - Chamber

    - Orchestral

    - Live Solo - Piano

    - Live Solo - Other

    - A Cappela

[here, I'm stuck. Romantic/Baroque - do we have enough baroque tunes to distinguish?]

    Rock:

    - Classic sound

    - Guitar - Sheddage (I don't know a better word for this)

    - Folk Rock

    - Heavy Rock

    - [Metal]

[debating sticking metal in here. Thoughts?]

    World/Folk:

[no categories yet; does this even need any categories?]

Would such a thing be wanted? And, if so, I'm willing to set to work on it, but if anyone's interested in giving me a hand and/or giving me some genres to work with, let me know.
