  1. I'll try and get a little play time in today after school but I am busy. :(

While I was looking at atmuh's screenshot I saw good ole' Dr. Horrible was on the server. He's a pretty mean Soldier from what I recall of him on other servers. Told me to move on from Pyro because the skill ceiling was way too low. That I should work on something like Demoman or Sniper instead.

Unless this was a different Dr. Horrible, in which case nevermind.

  2. I'm still working on Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 so I haven't bought 9 yet. Eventually I will, regardless if I beat the 8 games before it but I want some more retro Mega Man experience beforehand. When I go to buy Mega Man 9 I'll probably get Mega Man 10, so that simplifies things.

  3. I actually did pretty much the exact same thing with Spy until I forced myself to stay Spy for a whole round of 2Fort. But I have no real motivation to get good with Scout. -_-

Pretty much the same here, except I forced myself to play pure Spy for about 2-3 weeks straight. I was shy about playing Spy for a long time. I would be terrible with the class any time I played so I just avoided playing it. Instead I worked on other classes, such as Scout, Demo, Medic and Pyro.

But eventually I said "screw the rest of the team" and went pure Spy for about two weeks. All Spy, no exceptions. Ironically, the Sniper/Spy update happened during this time so it got really out of control towards the end with 2-3 Spies on each team nearly 100% of the time. Anyway, the "strategy" worked and while I wasn't a good Spy I at least had the basic foundation of how to.

I stopped playing Spy then (I think the Spy Update killed it for me) but I think I want to get back into it. I see no reason why I couldn't be a good Spy, I just need to master the little things.

  4. Yeah, that was just more fun than I could handle. In addition to the team stacking (and it was several members of a clan who were on the same team; one delightfully decided to re-add his tag before leaving), there was also sticky spawn camping, and a horrible misuse of the freedom of speech. Fireslash, thanks for popping in, but I think by the time you got there the damage had already been done. It's horrible to see the server empty on DUSTBOWL.

Um, if they should ever come back, the clan tag was ♥BNGD♥. I remember ♥BNGD♥ xXx^ƉǙČƘƥɰǹƨɎʘƯ^xXx ^_^, ♥BNGD♥ mesr-, and ♥BNGD♥ RADIO RAHEEEEEEEEEEEM εїз (who would not stfu for anything), but there were a few others...

It was pretty bad. It was doubly hard for me because I was simple doing so incredibly poorly these past few days, tonight being the worst yet. I had a feeling they were all from one clan but there wasn't much I myself would be able to do about it that I didn't bother. I'm pretty sure I have the game recorded if any details are needed.

  5. The team that was "[lions] stacked" tonight lost 4 of the 5 maps we played on.

    Wow...you're right...

Apparently [lions] have such a tremendous drag factor that there should not be any more than one per team! [lions] stacking puts the team at an unfair disadvantage, which makes the game less fun for everyone else!

But in all seriousness, you honestly thought I was legitimately complaining? You guys have never been a problem and my accusations of "[lions] stacking" have never been anything more than a (fruitless) joke. Come on, group hug!

  6. Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land

Super Mario World 3: Wario Land

Yes, I know that title was simply tacked on to improve sales but it makes it a Mario game. Or rather, a Mario-Wario game?

I bought New Suppaa Mawio Bwos Weeeeeeeeee for this weekend. Until then it's sitting in it's package waiting to be opened.

  7. yoshi's island isn't a mario game

    it's a yoshi game

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Yes, I know that title was simply tacked on to improve sales but it makes it a Mario game. Or rather, a Baby Mario game?

I might be getting New Suppaa Mawio Bwos Weeeeeeeeee this weekend. All I've been hearing are good things so hopefully it meets my expectations.

  8. Too be honest I would have bought it regardless. If it had been just rehashed NSMB DS tunes, I would have been disappointed but I would have tolerated.

I probably won't get it anytime soon. Maybe in December, but when that happens I'll make sure to bump this thread back from death to tell you guys about it.

  9. Looking forward to getting this game. Probably will pick it up when I have a friend over for the weekend. That's when it would be most fun.

After buying downloadable PC games and used DS/GBA games for dirt cheap, paying 50 dollars for a single title, a 2D Mario title nonetheless is hard to do. It better be worth it!

  10. I apologize for the long post, but there was a lot to be said about this.

Clan-stacking is a difficult issue, but to be honest it really just falls into another, larger issue; balancing teams.I think we need to work out a more streamlined system for balancing teams out, more systematic.

The only fair way to go about clan-stacking is to treat it the same way as normal team imbalance. And that doesn't always mean teamscramble, it could be as simple as an admin asking a really good player to move to the other team. Isn't there a way an admin can message a player without everyone seeing it? Or they could do it over mic too, I suppose. I think asking nicely and letting them switch on their own is the right way to go about this, at least in most situations.

If one team is completely obliterating the other consistently, teams may need balancing. However, just because one team rolls another team in a single round, especially the first round of a map where players are often still arriving, does not always mean that teams need balancing. Teams aren't always supposed to be perfectly balanced. The key is that you don't want them to be terribly imbalanced, and I feel this should be at the discretion of our server admins/mods/whatever we call them.

Let's look at the usual problem solver, team scrambling. Team scrambles interrupt gameplay and don't always work. Personally, I loathe playing through part of setup only to see "team scramble restarting game in 5 seconds" or whatever it says. Team scrambles are most valuable when admins aren't present or when teams don't have any major power players and just need to be shook up via player-initiated votescrambles (which never succeed but that's another thing entirelly).

A much better alternative is having admins ask a player to consider switching to the other team to help balance. This requires admins to decide which players are power players and to adjust the teams as neccesary. It also gives the player in question the benefit of the doubt that they want to help us achieve team balance. If the players consistently show that their intentions are otherwise, bigger tools probably need to be pulled out. Forcing them to switch teams must be an available power to admins, and if the player is being uncooperative it should be used. I would want to make sure that we've already made it clear that we think they should switch before doing so, but if they are causing a problem they should be switched.

Clan-stackers should be treated the same as any team-imbalancing players. But if members of a clan who are capable of causing rolls clanstack on a single team purposely and they do so repeatedly after being told not to, is not okay. At that point appropriate action should be taken. I think this should get my point across...

  11. Gonna have to agree with atmuh here. Syringe Gun's regen buff is much more valuable than the Bluts in a scrim setting. Keeping the medic alive is the main goal, and more continuous health regeneration helps out more in the long run. Whenever someone is around to heal who could save you, you should be healing them and only attacking as your very last resort.

Also, cool program I found. Organizes demos you record all nice and neat. Gives you the date, time, and map you played on for each demo. It's called the Source Engine Automatic Demo Saver and if you record a lot of demos, like I do, I'd highly recommend it.
