So we've just been inspiring one another through time...
It's absolutely true that DKC music was often based on / inspired by excisting tracks. Like Ice Theme from DKC2 was based on Antartica by.. forgot the name.. It was in the other thread running here on the forums ^^
But that's inspiration, it's different from plagiarism!
-
Like, seriously? This wouldn't even pass as a remix here... straight ripoff...
I really don't get how they can get away with this :')
Kickstarter gets burned down, whining about piracy, seems they don't really care about plagiarism.
Also funny how some comment "it's inspired by <insert song title>". Yeah, copy/pasting is so inspiring lol. Atleast they should give proper credit.
It's funny to see a videoclip with thousands of people going crazy on a (bad) FF8 remix, though.

Didn't see a topic about this yet, only VGM based on real life songs, not vice versa.
So today I was watching some Slam.FM (a popular TV/radio station here in The Netherlands) and I was disgusted. There was a track playing by Afrojack, named "Rock the House", and the melody was a copy/paste from FF8's The Landing (and even some Zanarkand in between).
I wonder why Square/Sony (I don't know who holds the rights) doesn't sue them, cause it's clearly a huge copy/paste.
Afrojack - Rock the House:
(Starts with the chords from Zanarkand)
(1:00 = The Landing, the main riff in the whole track)
(3:50 = Zanarkand again)
The Landing Original:
To Zanarkand Original:
Another one I found earlier, Adrenalize - Voices of Passion. It's a copy/paste (although there's a LITTLE more variation) of DKC2's Bayou Boogie.

I wonder if you guys have any more examples.
Maybe it's weird but I feel sad in a way that the original composers / games don't get credit. It would be -ideal- to have them play at huge Clubs/Festivals and have the crowd known about the game they are from

Like chimpazilla said, the piano should get more attention. Apart from that it's an awesome mix in this state already
Judges might have an ear for other things though, but this certainly can be submitted.

Wanna drop my thanks here aswell. Been 8 years since my first visit and this is a great opportunity for me to donate. This album will be great, so many big names, preview was awesome. Well deserved and cheers on another decade!

Hey OCR,
Normally I only post "finished" stuff here but now I'm gonna link some updates of my Currents of Time Remix, from FFXI Online.
Current Version:

Ideas and critics welcome, I'll consider them when I progress. Stopped for today though.
Cheers!

Oh. My. God.
Best thread on this site. Preview sounds awesome, FFXI has the best soundtrack of any FF imo, with every theme perfectly suiting to the environment it was used for. So happy to see this game getting some more love!
Airship and Gustaberg sound great. Can't wait till august

Hopefully there'll be some more BGM's coming to the European Theatrhythm DLC... Japan has quite a few!

Heya OCR,
For the Trancefans that visit these forums, here's a link to my first original track:

I know the production ain't that solid but melody-wise it's better than I expected.
Feel free to leave me a comment or some criticism
Thanks!

You might consider revising the vocal; i don't know how OCR feels about having the voice from the actual game in the song. Someone smarter than me can comment on that.
I am not submitting it to OCR so no problem there
drums are pretty loud, especially the hat.
Agreed, I should have mastered it a bit better. Or atleast a little, as it's not done at all xD
for me, the arrangement is okay, but it seems sort of repetitive. I know that's an element of techno, but the song doesn't really progress; this may be a part of the less than stellar transitions that have already been mentioned. maybe try mixing up the instrumentation in synths once in a while.
Agree again, it's repetitive! Had a few more ideas but really hated working on it after a few days so I decided to wrap it up instead
Lastly, don't use YouTube. get a soundcloud, mediafire, or tindeck account for uploading songs. YouTube can screw up the sound quality.
I do have Soundcloud and Tindeck but I also put everything on YouTube and Newgrounds. While YouTube's quality may suck a bit, it is still probably the best platform to spread video game remixes. Since you don't easily go on Tindeck and search for Portal Remixes
Good luck with the track, Still Alive is a great source and i'm sure you can do it justice.
Thanks, and thanks for the comment man

Woot, my friend played guitar and now it features live guitar!
Mixing is really bad I think
But it sounds better than the synth guitar I had!
Finished now probably..
-
Just found out that the kick is way too loud and the rest is way too quiet. That's what you get with cheap headphones
Thanks for the replies guys!
Oh and agreeing with Jean Of mArc: it does sound like 2 songs mixed up. I am not fond of the final transition. Something I have to work on.

Hey guys,
Would like to drop a link here to another Remix I made last week.

Mastering sucks, fake guitar sucks, but still I hope some might enjoy it a bit
Feel free to leave a comment.

Heya OCR,
I'd like to share some music I am working on atm.
It's a simple trancey remix from DKC2's Rigging theme.
Since the source is quite short and I don't like repetitive music it's just 3:18 long.
Probably alot of mastering and EQ issues still left there. Also not satisfied by the emptyness after the climax (missing some mid-range I think?).
Comments and critics very welcome. Seriously, you dont have to be nice, I'd like to know what could be improved
Thanks!
-
Agreed, but I think it really fits exactly the feeling I was going for. Do you think I should change it?
I wouldn't change the piano, it fits nicely
-
Have a good one both!

Still figuring out what I'm gonna do with mine. I'll just work on it this weekend and send you the WIP when I got it. It's leaning more toward N64 Victory Lap now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ChX5kn5p34)
Btw, serious suggestion: What if you'd leave the tracklist open for now? Reasons I could think of would be:
* You won't get all music from all mariokarts remixed probably, so it might be better to leave the tracklist open and maybe even allow multiple remixes for the same song
* Alot of the tracks share the same notes. Like Rainbow Roads, Victory Lap, Ceremonies, Koopa City, Toads Turnpike.
It's your project, but I'd think about it
Or atleast give every track from any MK game a chance to be on the main discs instead of leaving some to be bonus.
-
You want the tracklist to be premade then, or can anyone do any Mariokart track?
EDIT: Obviously any song can be done but you have full Disc layout etc with unclaimed tracks, it's confusing me
-
Don't think I'll be hitting OCR quality but if you want me to do a fun remix of MKDD Sherbet Land then sign me up!
-
Already bought it ^^
You make awesome stuff and VVVVVV was very enjoyable on PC and will be on my 3DS soon
I also enjoyed the PPPPPPowerup album. Please continue to make more music, your style is great!
-
Lead synths are definately lacking. Which is a total shame because I like what you did with the song.
There is so much variation and it never gets boring. Good stuff.
A change of a few synths and some EQ'ing can do this track justice. You got a PM
-
Thanks
I will have a look at it sometime!
-
Track 13 is indeed a traditional Christmas song, from Dutch/French origin. Nice Guess!

Updated first post with link to final.

How much money was raised before it went down? Was it close to 100k?
If so, let's break the barrier![:)](https://ocremix.org/community/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png)
