  1. I have heard so many midi rips, covers, remixes, etc. of UN Owen that I cannot even begin to count. And while I still enjoy the tune itself I grew tired of all those remixes... most of them stand out as much as a grain of sand in the desert...

...except this one. Thanks for getting my attention back to a tune that I abandoned in relation with the word "remix" quite a long time ago. Thank you!

  2. To me this is a pretty complex tune and I honestly had some troubles at first. But listening over and over again I started to hear out alot of tiny bits here and there that I have missed.

I can only recommend everyone to give this more than just a quick listen. Take your time, at best try to be relaxed and then I think a wonderful world of music will open for you - at least that's how I experienced it.

  3. I normally listen to chiptune-like remixes only once in a while and mostly for fun. But you guys manage to get me more interested in this kind of genre by taking a very solid and modern approach on it.

I cannot express what catches my attention in this mix, but somehow I can have it on repeat dozens of times without getting boring. And I like that. :)

    Thx for sharing this.

  4. Hello ppl,

I do not know if anyone actually waited for this or still cares, but after what seems like ages I got around to work on this mix again.

    Clicky!

The version I present you has the main focus on arrangement and sound design. I still have plenty of things on my list such as: humanizing drums, re-record the sloppy guitar parts or parts with detuned guitar, etc.

But this actually pretty close to what I want it to sound like. There might be some things in the arrangement that you might like or might not like - I guess it might depent on your tastes.

As always serious critism or advice is welcome and much appreciated!

    Thanks alot in advance,

    Luhny

  5. When I look at the title of this thread, I can give one little advice:

In the 10 years of autodidactic guitar learning I had lots of frustrating moments where I thought I do not progress at all. And everytime just before I wanted to call it quits for good it suddenly made a jump to the "next level" if I may say so.

So in whatever you do, try to keep it fun. Even if you are practicing stuff you find boring. As Rome wasn't built in one day either, do not expect a world wonder from yourself. I think you can make the best overall progress if you enjoy yourself in what you are doing.

    gl&hf! cheers,

  6. I am using Line 6 software with my 7 year old GuitarPort as hardware device/dongle. Basically grew up with their developement in this area (GuitarPort, Gear Box, PODFarm 1 and 2).

Meanwhile I have a PODFarm 2 Platinum bundle that gives me more amp models that I could ever dream of. Thing with Line 6 is that you need alot of time to adjust the sound. I think other amp simulators are better for that matter.

I am surely kinda biased through all those years of using Line 6, but no other amp sim I ever tried gave me the same ease of use, look and feel - so I stay with it.

Keep your eyes peeled for Line 6's new POD HD, though. It might be pretty cool.

    Yeah, they look interesting.

  7. Sorry for bumping this thread, but I saw no need in creating a new one when the search function gives me useful results...

I would like to ask if you could be a bit more concrete on the results you get with Izotope Ozone? I know it's hard to describe many of those mostly subjective aspects.

I am thinking about getting Ozone, but I read SO many different things about it, I would like to ask a few things, just to get another opinion on the matter from actual users of this plugin (because most things I can read on forums are either hypers or haters, but nothing that contains fact). So, let me begin:

    1. I read there are tons of presets. Are they any good (meaning, are they useful to take them as a starting point instead of starting from scratch and start adjusting)

    2. Is it true that the sheer amount of presets make you lazy in mastering? Some people complain how Ozone Users abuse potential customers by doing 1-click mastering and pretending to have worked for a long time on the master (it sounds like a pure hater-comment to me, but I just wanna make sure)

    3. If I could get a used Ozone 3 for a considerable less amount than Ozone 4 - would you think that Ozone 3 does its fair share of work? Or would it nowadays just be better to go with a new Ozone 4 because the new features are just that much better?

Thanks for taking time to read all of my questions.

    Take care,

    Luhny

  8. Heh, thanks for your comment. Glad to hear you like it so far overall.

Yeah... "repetitive" - I know. That is my everlasting big flaw. Even on such a short theme I should think of more alternations. I kinda seem to get stuck to the main melodies. Mostly because I like them as they are the best because this is the way I learned to love them.

Anyways, I know that the song is pretty short and there are still lots of things I want to do, productiong wise and also on the arrangement side.

It's just good to see that it was not an effort in vain. This is where motivation comes from :)

Well, I guess I will update this thread once I get a new version done.

Until then have fun listening, and take care.

    PS: Happy birthday :D

  9. I always thought that Rising Sun has that pop-ballad potential somehow... when listening to the Seiken Densetsu soundtrack I often - unaware of what I am doing - try to sing some random phrases along with the melody.

Might it be the chord progression or the melody or everything together... the source material was somehow made to be remixed someday exactly in the fashion you did.

The lyrics might be considered cheesy, but that is perfectly fine. It really fits well into the kindness of the whole song.

The guitar solo is also absolutely beautiful. If I had tried this, I would have melted the whole song down, but you managed to create a tone that has balls while still holding on to the grace the song needs.

Also I think this song fits really well for the Songs for the Cure project and my deepest respect for you to create such a masterpiece.

I think this mixpost has everything that makes a great remix. Thanks for sharing this one

  10. Hello,

this is the next thing I am working on - requested by Xarnax42 in this thread - is a piece from Legacy of the Wizard, also known as Dragon Slayer IV in Japan.

I think this game has an awesome soundtrack and one of those awesome songs I wanted to give credit to - Meyna's Level Theme which has been in my head over all those years.

Here is a link to the original:

So yeah, after messing around you can listen to what it sounds like at the moment here: http://www.darksoulproject.com/music/Meyna.mp3

This is work in progress, which you might hear. (aka: I really need to get this guitar intonated, tried several times myself, it does not work in the higher regions)

If you have any comments, suggestions or constructive critism it would be greatly appreciated as always.

    I hope you enjoy listening.

    Take care,

    Luhny
