  1. Actually, Jack has major potential...

His forward smash could be much like Peach in SSBM, but rather than sports equipment, he'll use his main tools

[{Least Damage} Watering can, Hoe, Scythe, Ax, Hammer {Most Damage}]

His charged attack could be (this is the only part I haven't found a good suggestion for), maybe the fishing pole could release bigger and bigger fish? Meh, I know, but I tried.

and for his smash attack, they could use one of two things:

1] He opens an umbrella, which dramatically summons a gigantic thunder storm which hits everyone, besides Jack, within distance to take huge damage (Reference to HM:GBC, where the umbrella waters all plants nigh-instantaneously).

2] He pulls out one of his main tools, but this time, he prepares for a gigantic swing, and eventually is surrounded by a powerful aura, before finally letting loose an amazing attack (Reference to HM:FoMT, where, if you follow the right criteria, you will get cursed tools, bless them [in various ways] to make blessed tools, and [though another set of arduous criteria] upgrade them into Mythic tools [All three of these types of tools, when you charge them to these levels, surround your character in an aura, and releasing the power of the tool often has a dramatic affect on things around you, such as the Hammer releasing a blinding white light before destroying every stone, boulder, and rock in the area and the Hoe pretty much tilling an entire screen worth of soil when released, which is a lot]) so yeah... The effects this could have would be numerous and all would be effing awesome [Even the watering can could probably release hundreds of small drops which do 1 damage each].

  2. Just because Hirokazu Tanaka did it doesn't make it great. I know how the original goes and this is pretty much the original with a whole bunch of random sounds thrown in.

"How the original goes"? Like I just said, there is no real "original" song, just snippets from seconds-long tunes. And it has a very distinct Hip Tanaka sound to it (cf. Dr. Mario level select screen, any of Earthbound's battle themes, among others).

  3. But that's probably because I've never heard the original in my entire life, so i have no what to listen to. It sounded like a lot of mumbo-jumbo, so i really can't appreciate it.

It's from the original Donkey Kong, which didn't have full-length songs. This song is a collection of various tunes and sound effects from the game. And it is a classic Tanaka arrangement. And it is awesome.

  4. wow, azen's going? man that's going to be awesome

I went to a pretty big tourney that Azen (among others) was at three or so years ago. I placed 13th out of over 50 and considered it a good finish. I considered myself to be the best player at George Washington University at the time, and I was happy to play and lose to people against whom I actually brought my A game. That was one of the last tourneys I went to, unfortunately. I haven't played Melee seriously since I before graduated a year and a half ago.

  5. Reasonable? I think this has pretty much indicated that he's gone: "There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now"

I took that as "to this point" rather than "but not anymore."

I understand that you think I have a weak argument, but my argument is not that Ness will return, but simply that you should not take your assumption that Ness will not return as fact.

  6. What makes me think this mostly revolves around Luigi. There is NO WAY that Luigi could be removed from this game, but his style of play is so similar to Mario (but not quite the same), that he would constitute a clone.

Did you play Melee? Luigi's moveset could only be compared to Mario's in appearance, and his style of play is completely different.

Heh, I like how everyone's lamenting the loss of Ness while you are still only assuming. First of all, the "no clones" thing (about which I never actually saw evidence of Sakurai himself saying) would be years old, thus subject to have changed, even if true. Second, we don't know how Sakurai defines a clone (comparing Mario and Dr. Mario is quite different from comparing Mario and Luigi, for example). He seemed to focus quite a deal on the differences between Ness and Lucas in his most recent update. Really, the only move that seems to function exactly like Ness' is his up-B (and that includes different standard moves).

I'm not saying Ness is going to return. In fact, I think there is a reasonable chance he's gone. I am tired of all these posts saying "OHG OD WAHT ISHE GONA DO SINCE NESSS IS DEF OUT NOW!!" when Ness also has a decent chance of being back.

  7. I saw FLUDD being used. It was in one of the vids on the Fire Emblem stage.

It's too bad Link's intro is so GAY. A whirlwind? Seriously? That's a damned POKEMON MOVE. What happened to his awesome warp? Remember the one where he pulled out his sword and shield as he came down to the battle?

It seems as though that's been taken by Pit. Regardless, the whirlwind is way better. It is reminiscent of a number of things from the Zelda universe (flute from original Zelda, Farore's wind, the Hyrule stage in the original Smash Bros., the golden frog tornado thing in Phantom Hourglass). What does the warp have going for it?

Also, since Ness had the coolest intro in the original Smash, it makes sense that they would bring it back. Given that Lucas has a different intro, I figure Ness has to be in the game with his original intro.

  8. Why Balloon Fight and not Punch-Out?

Because Balloon Fight is a way better game than Punch-Out.

Also, if Balloon Fighter were playable, why would they put elements from his game on another character's stage? Unless the Balloon Fighter himself doesn't have a stage, which would be strange because any Balloon Fight stage would work as-is as a Smash stage.

  9. halloween is nothing to sakurai

You obviously missed the jack-o-lantern in the first screenshot.

As much as I would like to say this hints at a playable Balloon Fighter, Sakurai seems to group BF with IC in a "retro" category (see: BF music on Icicle Mountain in Melee), so the fish could just be along as part of that.
