  1. So here's something that is a little different than my typical style. I still changed the time signature (as I often do): this time from 4/4 to 7/4 (hence, 74 Hz). However, what makes this different to my normal style is the fact that I went for a little more chill vibe and used different types of instruments. It is not very synth heavy. The primary "rhythm section" consists of a keyboard, set drum, and electric bass. Check it out!

  2. I feel like the introduction does not fit well with the feeling you have going on right after the drop. The drums by themselves have a harsh articulation on their own. The wub that backs the track was very repetitive and ended up getting a bit annoying, as it never changed (no leveling or even effects were changed on the wub) so I would suggest a bit of variety. I feel like you could have added a bit more to the drops, as the others before me have said. It feels like it should go somewhere larger, not just with a tempo change, but the instrumentation should change instead!

Also, hello fellow East of Eden fan! :D

  3. I think the evidence points most to Sylveon being a flying type. What made me think it as a flying type the most was the fact that it looked a TON like Skyla, with a similar color scheme and the ribbons and pink/red hair and such.

My theory is that this little guy was supposed to be released 5th generation and be Skyla's featured partner Pokemon, but they decided against it for whatever reason they wanted (probably for the same reason they decided Alomamola wasn't Luvdisk's evolution, just to screw with everyone lolol).

On the topic of Pokemon X and Y, I've been making some concept melodies for X/Y out of B2/W2 soundfonts. Take a listen if you'd like! :D

  4. Just registered! My username is AImightyArceus, with an "i" instead of an "l" in "Almighty". :D

EDIT: Just realized that this doesn't work on Macs D: So I guess I can't actually play

  5. Needs a little more tension in the atmosphere

Other than that you're on the right track, I really like the DnB stylized drums and the slightly garbled saw synth is a nice touch the bass pad is nice and smooth though the bells could use a bit of a touch up. In short, nice job mate and can't wait to hear the final version.

That's what I had tried to establish in the beginning with the background synth playing the 5th and sharp 5th in alternation. I have a feeling that when I adjust the volume between the beginning and the chorus to make them more equal, that tension will become a bit more establish. I might add a few more synths in that section to establish it a bit more.

Thank you all so much for these fantastic comments! I am working on this mix right now, and I should have a more updated WIP coming soon! :D

  6. For some reason, everything's maxing out at about -1.5dB.

I think the square lead is a bit loud compared to the rest of the instrumentation. Perhaps boosting everything but the square lead by 1.5dB will help that. :)

Hm... the snare has a good amount of reverb, but maybe you should have another snare that could sound close to it, but with less reverb for the snare fills.

If you're going to keep that square lead, I suggest adding some vibrato to it. :D

I think it's iTunes autoleveling it. I'm not sure why it does that when I export from Garageband...

And I can add another snare like it; I actually have tons of snares that sound VERY close to it.

And I'll get on dat vibrato! :D

  7. Sounds pretty good! I do think there could be a lot more expression on the square lead starting at 1:18. It seems to be playing regular sustains. Vibrato the lead! Add some more glide (in certain spots, not overall)! :D

Change leads at 2:22, maybe? Keep it fresh. Maybe a slightly resonant saw wave with a minor low pass (kind of like Thing of Gold by Snarky Puppy)?

2:43 - Change the lead again, perhaps? Something more suited to the change to minor, maybe a gritty, distorted, very slightly detuned resonant saw lead (just thought of it now, so no comparison point. xD)? :D

4:29 - keep the square lead there, for sure, it's back to major! :D

Aside from that, just make sure nothing's too quiet.

    ;)

Oh my god thank you for telling me about that song. Holy crap that was awesome. Definitely becoming one of my favorites :D I also thank you for the advice on the lead; I'm workin on it right now! :D

  8. My experience with Bugdom is limited to about 30-40 seconds at a demo setup in a store somewhere... so unfortunately I can't say I have first hand nostalgia for this track, but you still get a

Exploding fist bump for obscure games!!! 8-)

It's fun to see lesser known titles get attention. Looks like Bugdom had an awesome soundtrack. You did a great job of capturing the essence of the original while also expanding on it in subtle, effective ways.

Thanks man! I'm glad you like it! I am really satisfied with the ambience and instrumentation that I set up for this remix, and while it's not an "odd-time" remix as I typically do, I feel like I did a very good job on this one :D

  9. Really spectacular. I think you're very close. I'll tell you what's killing me though, is that it starts to get especially interesting around 2:44 and then just fades out. Don't tease me like that, man!

I hope you'll consider expanding that section... maybe bring elements of it in earlier. But I feel like we were just getting to the best part and then you pulled a George Costanza and left us on a high note.

Lol, from all the comments I've gotten about that ending, I'm going to expand it. Was planning to anyways; really that ending stems from the rushed time we had at the end to finish for the contest. I felt bad that I couldn't do a real, true, creative ending so I will be focusing on that. I will also consider adding some spice to the mix, because the synths are pretty similar. That's yet another part of the mix that I've disliked, was the repetitiveness of the sounds.

I'll get working on this; thank you guys for all your suggestions! :D

  10. I felt the same way re: Broken Wings: It may have only covered part of the source, but it was a part that really could have been a whole piece on its own. I thought it worked really well. Besides, you don't have to look any further than WillRock's Countdown to Infinity to find a remix that takes only a tiny part of a source and does awesome things with it.

Or 14.5 West Coast Radio (EXPN Card Required) by PROTO DOME. My goodness is that catchy. And it just uses a little segment of the source, over and over with beats and sound effects. And it's awesome :D

  11. So here is a piece that I worked on for a little contest called ReMixing With the Stars! I had a lot of fun with this one. Rozo helped me finalize the mastering on this track, as he was my partner in the contest. I am satisfied with this mix, in which I convert this originally 4/4 piece into 5/4, and I am planning on sending it in to the OCR judging panel, but I wanted a few more opinions on this track before I send it in. Finishing touches and the like! Tell me what you guys think! :)

Rozo and I placed fourth in the contest. It was definitely a close race for the competitors and we had a lot of amazing competition! :D Please tell me what you think, everyone! :)

  12. I was actually referring to the reverb decay mix on the layered clap/snare(s). There are some reverb effects plugins that have a low end mix, high mids mix, and highs mix. For example, take a look at this:

    http://static.kvraudio.com/i/b/uhbik-a.jpg

What I had said above is right above the "u-he.com", in case that visual helps you in understanding anything you hadn't before.

The type of reverb mix I was suggesting has about 10% lows, 60% mids, and 70% highs, if put in the most general way possible. You probably don't have something that does it exactly like what I'm talking about. :P

    Hope it helps! :D

As far as I know Garageband doesn't have that built in; could you recommend a (preferrably free) plug in that would help me with those functions?
