  1. Thanks, I wasn't really thinking about transposing, I feel like an idiot, I just never really had to do it as I play trombone( a C is a C, no difference at all, s opposed to others)

well its not really about transposing, its about fitting the chord. you're a bass clef; idk how to read bass clef, but i think it reads pretty much the same as concert (the note names correspond to concert pitch)

  2. the background synth is not at all the right choice! it was way louder than the melody, and the note it plays is out of key! the key the goldenrod city song is in is concert Db, and the note you used is concert E, which is not in the key of Db. Bring it up a half step tho, and you'd be on the third of Db, which would work a lot of the time as a background. but also, make it WAAAAY quieter.

  3. I am going to use some chordal tones with vibes as I tested them alone and I feel they would sound great in my mix and I have decided that I will not have a drum as support, I will use a gameboy sounding backbeat instead relying on a few lower notes as I feel this would truly make this a good remix, and I have about 2 minutes of music now and will update as soon as I finish vibes and backbeat and add a break between piano and guitar with guitar then dropping out into original sample for a closing. Does this idea sound good?

    sounds good :) cant wait

  4. How long should I make it, I am not good at judging ow a song should be length, that is why I submitted a short sample, I don't really know what to do here, would about 2 minutes be good?.... I will try a Piano swing solo(a jazz swing, with a quiet Bassline, maybe add in a light Electric guitar to close) toward the end of my piece(so starting at about 1:15).

yeah i think 2 1/2 to 3 minutes should be good. it does need a very solid background; i really like chordal tones, so if you could insert some on a casual instrument--like the vibes, lets say--that would be cool...also a more natural bass line would be nice. and i lvoe the idea of a swing piano solo! that would be really cool :) and if you decide to put in the electric guitar, make it really light...maybe even acoustic... :) hope it comes together!

  5. @Liz Yeah i think thats the main thing that this mix needs more on: dynamics. it really lacked in that account, and some of the volume got a little screwy at some points...

I really HATE the guitar that garageband gives as their "big electric lead" but besides that all they have is like acoustic or bass guitar. it takes a lot of modulation in order to get it to a more natural, better-sounding guitar, but i have finally figured out how. And really, you didnt like the harpsichord? Hmm, i really felt it suited it pretty well...is there such aterm for bleeding on purpose? cuz i wanted just a bit of that....but i'll fix that; i like the sound it has, i'll just make it more precise. And of course, i will really work on the dynamics

muchas gracias for your comment :) (btw this theme is aka the champion battle from pokemon diamond/pearl/platinum)

  6. very, very, very simple. i mean, i know it's the theme to a city, but you could REALLY go outside the box with this. . for example, soloing on this would be a great way to go, especially if you could add a piano line to it, as i think a piano would really fit the feel you were going for. piano fits in pretty much all city themes like this, and it makes it feel more casual and city-like...idk...hard to describe but i think you know what i mean.

When the sax comes in at 0:16, it feels either ahead or behind for some reason (i cant really tell) and a bit to loud, as it is the underlying melody. try to bring the other part out a bit more as to match volume. (i know the sax isnt really delayed or sped up, it just feels that way compared to the underlying theme.)

Overall its coming along, you just need to add to it to make it stronger and more "exciting" or interesting to listen to. no one really wants to listen to a simple little tune like that all day; no one really likes elevator music. lol you know what i mean; i dont mean to be overcritical, i jsut think you could really go further with this. so just keep working on it!

  7. So this was one of my originals. i like most of it cuz its pretty solid. obviously, the piano solo part inst completely final, as no background is there most of the time. and, btw, i know there will be a lot of comments on the sax volume (you'll know where) but i did it on purpose to make it very pronounced and predominant. anyways, please comment and enjoy :)

  8. This is one ive really really wanted to post. very, VERY synth filled, and the tempo is intentionally faster than the original. Its pretty loud, and some of the synths "bleed" at some points, but thats only for a bit more blended synth kinda thing. i'd say i need more solid attack on those tho. I feel this is one of my more solid mixes, but please, tell me what you think!

  9. well i can't find the actual times... (therye prolly there, i just cant see them) but it happens when the strings do a major crescendo once the piano had first come in. its pretty soon after the piano comes in. and lol i know, idk jsut more random crituque. i wanna hear it be the best thing possible :) i guess the marcato remark is just personal preference...if you feel its the way you absolutely love, keep it! :)

  10. This one to me feels less like a battle song, the way i made it. this was the first remix i ever made, so i wanted to see what people would say about it. so tell me what you think :)

@ Emunator of course they're relevant! crits is what im looking for! When you say "rhythm guitar" you mean the totally repetative one i assume? i love the sound font it has for it. unfortunately a lot of sound fonts cant translate over to notation. i really thought my lead guitar was too soft, and had too little attack, but i now know how to fix that. same with the sax, i will add some attack to it. live guitar would be sick though :)

  11. This strays a bit from the original version, but definately not as much as the arceus song. I made this one build a lot more than the others, but i know there are still a few imperfections. there were some really hard decisions to make on this song. I was going for a relatively synthetic sound moreover, which is why the violins sound a little wishy-washy. Anyways, please tell me what you think!

@Emunator Hahaha i got totally got up in that beat. i felt the need to keep at least one part of the main (first) four notes the entire song, as that is how the original goes. i totally understand where ur coming from; i had too many copy/paste add-on and not enough melodic changes in some parts. some parts felt really blank, plus its 5 minutes of it, which causes a bit of drag. thanks, i will work on all of that :)

@SLyGeN Yes i have made plans to trully edit this; a new edit should be here over the weekend; i plan to shorten the less exciting and "dragging" parts quite a bit to make it more dramatic. also, at the end, i think i will go somewhere with that key change i was making. Idk about changing the 4 solid notes; it always kept tempo and sounded cool. anyways, i shall be working on this.

@Cyril hahaha thanks if i had my editing computer right now i'd be working on this song. getting closer; i really have some good ideas for improvements on this one. lol i will make the bass phatter on this :)

@ Evahn yeah im working on the bass and the repetitiveness. i ahvent had time to do much yet, but im working on it. and there is bass there, its just not very phat as of yet. i need to add more punch to it, and i will. i am shortening it and making it less repetative.

  12. i really like what you did with this remix. i just have a few small improvments you might be able to make. One thing i noticed was the abrupt marcato sound of the piano. while the accents are well placed, i think you could use a less punchy piano (if possible.) Make the notes more legato, as to make the song flow more. This song doesnt really have a rigid, abrput, upbeat feel; it has a very layed back and sort of saddened quality (as the title suggests) so legato notes (as the strings demonstrate) work the most. with the occasional maracato at high points. Oddly enough, this piano became totally drowned out at some points by the violin; consider not as much of a cresendo. the violin just got a bit too loud there.

  13. lol my thoughts exactly. like spot on exactly. i never thought it had much of a direction to it, nor was it true enough to the old tune to be an official ocr thing.

@ Emunator: lol thanks about the intro part. thats prolly my favorite part. i agree with the comment on the piano; the normalization of the track got a little skrewed up a ithink. plus it never seemed very solid to me. This is one im definately going to refine. of course, there wasnt much to play off of in the original....lol :)

  14. Okay so this mix totally deviates from the original.everyone on youtube has been saying to "post this on oc!" and "whoa thats amazing!" but perrsonally, i really dont see how cool it is. but you all be the judge of that...please listen to this and tell me what you honestly think :)

  15. @ neblix yeah sorry relatively new (in case you couldnt tell, even thought its strikingly obvious) anyways ive changed my signature. I strongly desire FL Studio, and i did not know it came free. I am still a huge fan of Garageband; it is a comfortable and convenient tool of remixing. (im sorry for bumping up my thread. still learning the basics (including non-bumping replies.) Clearly, i am off to a rough start, but i look forward to improvement.

@ Rozovian i am looking into getting an expanded variety of synths for it, so thank you for those alternate resources. also thank you for enlightening me on separating the drum line, very clever. it will really help to bring out those accents on the bass drum. I am going to rework this a lot, and your advice has relaly helped. (btw when i said "i'll see what i can do with GB" i didnt mean it was its fault. i meant that even with garageband i have much to learn; it was more of a compromise of my own ability rather than the softwares ability)
