  1. Hey guys! Been a while since i posted anything on here, i've been so busy lately X_x. I've had this song sitting on my compt for a while now and not doing anything so i decided to upload it.

    This metal remix was made using FL Studio 9, and Amplitube Metal for the guitars(along with other soundfonts for pads and such). I realize the mastering is not the greatest and i've improved greatly since this was made.:?

    After hearing this song in game i knew i just had to do a remix of it.

  2. I'm not really that fond of naming chords with roman numerals, because it doesn't really mean much to me (not even sure if I label chords correctly all the time, either).. I still think of them as just "six" or "five", not "minor fifth" or whatever.. so, I'm definitely not good enough with theory to be a legit writer. lol :/

    Well "six" or "five" will only get you so far when trying to communicate your chord progression. the roman numerals are very specific and are easier to understand once you know them.

    As far as being a legit writer. You can make a pretty decent rock song with a simple i, VI, VII, chord progression. add in a V every now and then to spice it up lolz.

  3. Not exactly sure what you mean by modulation in this sense, because whenever i hear modulation i think of vibrato lolz :???:

    However, I really do like the way these are written and your chord choices make perfect sense.

    You obviously have some pretty good music theory under your belt (i can tell by the way you are naming your chords with roman numerals)

    I hope someone can answer your question better than i can i'll do some research as well and see if this is indeed what you call "chord modulation"

    It seems to me though that whatever it is you were intending worked out exactly the way you wanted it too.

  4. sorry, i was mistaken, running low on sleep last night. the parts that sound discordant to me are some of the low notes like in the section starting at 3:12.

    Ok i think i see what you are saying now. The vibrato on the low notes is kinda mixing with the rhythm guitar a bit and making it sound slightly off.

    However, i don't think it's really that big of an issue cause it does what i wanted it to do. It helps the lead guitar stand out from the rhythm.

    At that low of an octave it's a bit hard to distinguish so i had to find a way to separate them. adding a vibrato was the best solution i had. :neutral:

  5. is that sytrus' inferno preset? it reaaaaaally isn't doing you any favors. the guitar would sound a lot better by itself, imo.

    Do you mean for the rhythm guitar? if so, then no it's conquerer sytrus sound over the rhythm. I did it simply to give the song a little bit of a techno feel as well as metal.

    also, a lot of the slide notes are really discordant and it detracts from the mix a lot. those are probably the two biggest things i'd look into fixing.

    I don't really know what you mean i wrote it exactly how a real guitar player would play it, or at least how I would play it if i could really play guitar.

    aside from that, your sound isn't terrible for what i imagine your setup looks like. what are you using for your rhythm guitar?

    well actually the lead guitar and rhythm guitar are the same sound. They come from a Sound font called Ultimate Guitar Kit 2, and it's run through a REALLY good amp simulator called Amplitube metal.

    This isn't my first song I've written in fact I've already written many but none worth uploading until now. It's not that they are bad, in fact i like them all.

    It's just the sounds i was using weren't really up to standards if you know what i mean. :wink:

  7. This is an original i just finished making. It's basically inspired by all of the street fighter and guilty gear I've been playing lately.

    I just got FL studio recently as well as Amplitube metal. This is a test song that i'm very proud of. So, enjoy and tell me what you think any criticism is welcome as well as advice for future projects ^^.

  8. Ok well it's been a while since i've posted anything about the song. i've gotten many new and better quality sounds since the last time i worked on this. So hopefully i will be able to update the sounds to make it sound as good as possible.

    I should be getting FL studio pretty soon (the official full version signature bundle). Once I have that then i can work on it much faster because i will be able to save the project as a flp.

    Once i do update it I'm very much a noob when it comes to mastering. It would be awesome if maybe there is anyone who could help a little with that.

    Anyway, That's all for now i'll post again when i have something new to show.

    actually liked the guitar better on the other version of this. I'm a fan of that kinda dirty sound more. Also, and it may just be me. The dirty guitar sounded more real than this one does. Though it was a bit on the loud side in the last mix (not this one) Also, I think some reverb would help smooth them out a bit maybe.

    Well that is more of a preference than anything. However, i think it's also the way i have it playing in this mix. It's playing an octave higher than a rhythm guitar typically plays due to the fact that the song would require the guitar to be in drop D tuning.

    (My mute strum sound doesn't go that low >.>). I guarantee you though if i had a more traditional guitar line in a song with this sound, it'd sound much more realistic than the other guitar.

    I could see some embellishments on things. Pitch bends on long notes in places and stuff. Just polish and preference really.

    Again really? lol cause nothing changed composition wise. Only sound wise.

    I'm really bad at this sort of thing (also these headphones are broken:banghead:) but I think I hear clipping at places. Check your levels.

    All of my levels were below 0 db i triple checked before i saved it. It could be all the distortion from the different guitar sounds blending a bit in a not so good way not sure. Anyway thanks for the comment ^^. I'll keep working on it.

  10. Here's another update of the song with the newest sounds I have. I think it will be ready to submit very soon once i make a few final mastering tweaks (the lead guitar for the solos is a bit too quiet =/).

    Other than that I think it's just about done. Let me know what you think.

    Just realize that I use FL studio and i make my own guitar sounds rather than using real ones (because i don't actually play guitar lol). The sounds i have a decent enough though, and it would be even better if you let me possibly use the one you used for this song.

    If I can figure out a way to make it sound a bit heavier it'd be perfect i think ^^.

    Edit: if not, however, I've made a VERY good lead guitar sound. in the mid-mid/high ranges it sounds almost EXACTLY like a real guitar only someone with a trained ear could probably notice any real difference.

    On the low end and very high end it starts to lose it's touch though =/ but it's the best i have lol

  12. gatesoflife7: It's a sample with fx and filters applied. Don't remember the name as I tend to organize and rename my samples alot. I'll let you know once I find out. I'm not very good at electric/distortion guitar skills.

    ah well i look forward to it cause i think if i added a little more distortion to it it'd make an awesome metal lead guitar sound.

    I wish I could grab someone with mad heavy/death metal skills so I can revive one of my tracks (Elemental Master (Genesis) and Jackie Chan Action Kungfu (NES)) that requires it. Thanks for the appreciation.

    I'm very good at heavy/power metal although i don't care much for Death Metal but if you'd like i might be able to give some incite. it's up to you. 8-)

  13. Perhaps it's too mechanical. Try varying the frequency of the cycles as well as the amplitude and see where that takes you.

    For example...

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~~ ~~...

    (Pretend the ~ is a cycle)

    Making it come in slow and build into the faster part will make it sound more realistic for orchestra instruments (they generally need a little time to adjust to the bend). For guitars samples it's probably better to start somewhere closer to the faster cycles, but try to vary the pattern, even (and preferably) a little at a time.

    if you mean cycles as in bending the note up and down; i did mess with varying speeds and starting slow and working up to faster bends. it did sound more natural however still not quite what I'm looking for.

    I'm either being too picky (most likely the case lol), or I'm just failing to see a very simple option right in front of my face. However, I do really appreciate your input as this issue has been bugging me for a little while now.

    I'll keep playing with things and I'll try more of what you said and see what happens maybe something might click :smile:

  14. i do use bends and slides. i know how to do that lol. i'm talking about like a vibrato effect. like for the end of a guitar phrase or something, because on a real guitar a player never just holds the notes completely still.

    His fingers are constantly moving even when holding a note. he bends the string back and forth slightly for a whammy sort of effect. that's what I'm talking about. I've tried just bending the note up and down really fast but it still doesn't sound quite the same.

  15. This is where we're getting that idea. If you're exporting MIDI's then all the functionality you're asking for should come with the package. GM =/= MIDI. GM is a soundfont that interprets the MIDI - the MIDI itself is in fact what everyone uses when sequencing in FL. It's a standard computer code that tells the computer how to play the music.

    You should realize that most sequencers use a MIDI format and supplement it with VSTi's and other plugins. If you're using FL then you are, in essence, using a MIDI interface, but overlaying it with better effects and sounds.

    That's why you deal with 0-127 as your limitation in just about every field you can manipulate.

    Onto your primary point, is it perhaps one of the plugins that you're trying to apply to single notes? If so, then you can't export it as a MIDI, no matter what you try. If you're talking about the modulation function that comes standard on all MIDI's then it can only affect entire tracks in the sequencer. Otherwise, it should be exported with the track and thus not a problem, to begin with.

    Ah i see what you mean. Yes in that sense i do use midi but i don't just leave it as midi that's what i meant.

    i use sytrus with a ton of effects for my lead guitar sound and it sounds really nice but i'm not sure how to modulate certain notes to make it sound more realistic. like the way a real guitar would be played.

    nobody ever just plays notes on the guitar the same way. they are constantly bending and sliding and doing lots of stuff on the strings. I was asking if there was a way to kinda emulate that feeling with modulation to give it more feeling. cause i can write the most amazing sounding melody but it still kinda lacks true feeling.

    LOL well idk about that, I just use my ears (I've always had VERY good hearing when it comes to music).

    Glad that distortion helped, I've been using both on a synth I'm trying to make nasty, but there's mastering in my future there. I gotta EQ stuff and figure out what's clipping. Stupid...Filter...Automations...

    Well i actually only used the second link you gave me cause the first link made it way too scratchy. However that does not mean i won't be able to find a use for it later ;-)

    As far as the clipping goes usually Soundgoodizer A mode max on the master track-lower volume on the individual track of the sound that's clipping -then fruity compressor does the trick for me i try to refrain from EQs unless absolutely necessary or the sound isn't very good on its own.

    Now, that being said, I'm not the person you want to ask about mastering. I don't hear anything wrong with it, but my last WIP is clipping and I don't really know, eh, howtofix/whereitis so some research is also in my future. But bottom line, get a mastering dood to take a look at this.

    WOOT! Guitar sounds! Though I may have tainted your non-distortion purity with my peer pressure to put it on everything. I gets yelled at a lot for that. But I like it!

    Nicely done with the highs, still there and powerful, but not as grating.

  17. I'm really liking the way this mix sounds ^^. It definitely fits the bill as sounding western.

    I have really no complaints at all except maybe make the ending a bit bigger by adding a string lead along with that trumpet but it's up to you.

    I think it will do well as it is. Great work!! =D

    EDIT: BTW what sound did you use for the electric lead guitar it sounds very nice (that is if it is a guitar VST it's really hard to tell cause it sounds so real lol)

  18. Is there a way to modulate individual notes in the piano role? I'd be awesome to have that effect for lead guitar lines and lead synths.

    I do a lot of Power Metal type stuff and i feel sometimes when my leads hold a note for a while it sounds dead with no feeling.

    If i knew of a way to modulate notes that are held longer than half a measure that would be very helpful. (I do not own a midi controller keyboard and my actual keyboard does not have a pitch or mod wheel)

    Any suggestions would be much appreciated ^^. Thanks in advance.

  19. I've updated and changed a few things as far as mixing goes. I redid the lead guitar with the distortion effects you showed me and it made the lead guitar sound VERY nice.

    I added some filters to the synth leads to cut out some of the high (and possibly harmful) frequencies.

    I changed the rock organ to a church organ to give it kind of a Gothic feel and with the choir it sounds really nice. i also raised their volume slightly so they fill in just a bit more but they are still in the background compared to the other instruments.

    Due to the fact that i can't save it as an FLP i had to remaster everything again with all of the effects and stuff but i got it to sound as best i could and i think it came out very nice.
