  1. Good afternoon everyone! It's been a long time between visits. I thought I'd break my sojourn ice with a Prog Rock Pokemon remix I put together a couple of months ago. https://soundcloud.com/joshkoen/pokemon-red-blue-gym-leader Any constructive feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Josh
  2. Thanks for the great feedback guys! I am away from home for work for a couple of days (actually using a client's computer to "test the proxy" right now) but am looking forward to putting some of these suggestions into motion. I am actually considering removing the first 4 bars of the song altogether and starting with the bass slide. Does anyone have any suggestions for a virtual instrument to replace the harp? (preferably free!) In other awesome news, I actually recieved a YouTube comment AND blog post spotlight from the Main Man Graeme Norgate himself! For those of you who don't know, he is the original composer of this song, and also did much of the soundtrack for other classics like Blast Corps and Goldeneye! http://graemenorgate.blogspot.com/ Lucky! Hahaha
  3. God I LOVE this song! ' I can't even deconstruct it for production praise (though it is VERY well produced!) because I can't stop these awesome NOSTALGIA TEARS from welling up in my eyes. This is GORGEOUS guys. Keep up the great work!
  4. Update: I've gotten some feedback through a friend in music production, as well as one or two people in the IRC, who suggest that the sound is muddy. I've switched the track to mod review for some production feedback
  5. Dude, I think tracker really suits this arrangement, and for what it's worth, I don't feel that it's too short! It's sounding great through my cheapo Logitech 2.1 system. The rhythms are what I enjoy most about it; I'm jamming along with it right now
  6. I LOVE IT. I feel such immense nostalgia when hearing this theme, and your rendition is beautiful!
  7. Hi! The Link appears to work fine on this end, and I've double checked that the video is public. You may wish to also try THIS link: http://soundcloud.com/josh-koen/donkey-kong-land-bad-boss-boogie-josh-koen-remix Let me know how it goes!
  8. Hi Kaypain! A very cool drum groove here, but I fear that the melodic dissonance (starting around 1:28 ) couple with the songs' repetitive nature and heavy use of cut and paste sampling will incur some serious judge critique! That said, I love your rendition- although I am a bit biased (I have some SERIOUS love for OoT AND the soundtrack ) Keep on rockin brother
  9. Wow, this track is gorgeous! I particularly love the bass; so busy, so funky! I am new here, so I'm not sure if this has been brought up before or whether you're already familiar with it, but I find the 'Mr Sax T' VST from Sample Modelling can create some great, near realistic sax tones (especially when used with a midi breath controlled instrument). You could probably track down a demo without too much trouble. Keep up the great work!
  10. Hello everyone My name is Josh, and I work in I.T. In my spare time I enjoy learning about music production, and spend most of it jamming on drums, working on electro house, or remixing my favourite video game themes. I have been meaning to check out OCRemix for some time now (a few people on my youtube channel have suggested I come visit). I've decided to take the plunge and submit a song for critique! This is a re-arrangement of one of my favourite boss themes of all time, 'Bad Boss Boogie' from Donkey Kong Land on the Gameboy. It starts in a very melodic and relaxed manner and rocks out hard and fast at the end. I hope you enjoy it! Please let me know if you have any questions, and please provide feedback (I am VERY new to this!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv09uU4bdMg Edit: Here is the original: Cheers Josh
