  1. Hey, as a question... would the soundtrack to Dragonball Z Buu's Fury on the GBA be acceptable?

I REALLY want to do a Dragonball Z Mix. So I want to make sure that it meets the guidelines.

EDIT: Also, the Legacy of Goku 2.

  2. Jeff probably automates the mids on the basses to make room for the vocals.

Man. It took me the longest time to realise that you didn't have to have a static EQ on your tracks.

I'm so slow at this whole production thing. Haha

Plus, I should probably look into getting Massive. I love me some thick synths.

  3. Does Corruption [Metallic Madness US] make anyone else think of an awesome 80's B movie soundtrack? Every time it comes up (which is frequently) I think of They Live or Escape from New York. I love it! That intro with the fat bass is what gets me in a great listening mood every time. It also has a few parts (near the 3:00 area) that has some sounds similar to one, or both, of the Doom CD's OCR put out years ago. Especially around 3:24.

Thanks dude. I really enjoyed putting that track together. <3

Especially since I was really going for a Nine Inch Nails "Closer" sort of vibe. :)

  4. Cosmic, I strongly urge you to include Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z in the first edition. DB is one of the most iconic and quintessential Shonen Jump series with arguably the longest history of video games (going all the way back to the NES era). No other series screams Shonen Jump in the same way DB/DBZ does.

I cannot agree with this any harder right now.

    This is pretty much necessary.

Not that I even think the project needs 'Editions'.

Like, I feel like any tracks from Shonen Jump games just all lumped together would be just fine.

Especially considering there's no 'genre' restrictions. :/

    /my 2 cents lol

  5. Generally I get around 10~20 layers of pattern rows for just instruments, but 20~40 pattern rows of automations to accommodate for the instrument choices at certain sections (humanization, dynamics, compensation EQ, etc.).

Oh. We're counting automation as well? Yeah. I automate a lot actually.

I wish it didn't require it, but sometimes you get a perfect guitar tone, but you get too much sound of the pick in there than you want...

Gotta automate that out with EQ. :/

  6. Ah. Right, I get you now. I agree to some degree yes.

There are a few gaps in those theories, but generally as an exception to the rule anyway.

With most metals yeah, it's about the bass... unless it's like... power metal. Then every guitar is up playing the noodly bits. Haha

But yeah I totally get what you're saying.

I think there are upsides and downsides to both electronic and organically produced music.

All in all though, I think it balances them rather than makes one harder.

  7. I've gotta agree with Brandon here.

It's so much harder because EVERYTHING can affect your sound and you can get a slightly different sound because of small differences.

When I record guitars in the heat, I get lots of fret buzzing which really affects the sonic character of the guitar.

Mixing organic instruments/timbres is harder because there's never a consistency.

Plus... y'know... we have to actually have the chops to record the stuff.

Plus I know that Brandon and I don't stick to what you would call 'consistent organic genres'.

We shift about a LOT and what you might just call Metal, we might call Metalcore, Black Metal or Thrash Metal. Y'know?

    lol my two cents

also lol i don't know how to use anything especially compressors lol

  8. Tuberz McGee

Lovely intro. Like the little 8-bit synth. Ooooh, like the guitars too. :) And you managed to include the Kain theme. Very impressive and natural combination.

1:42 really expected and wanted some drums here. Made this section feel flat.

Guitars sounded a little brittle and harsh at times. Just some gentle EQ'ing and small amounts of tastefull FX could fix that. Great track, hope you submit it!

Thanks dude. Your track was pretty hella awesome too! :D

I cannnnnot wait for next round <3

  9. Oh man xD, sorry about that. I wasn't feeling well when I read that, and in skimming through it I read shamisen......as shakuhachi XD.

Um... Shakuhachi is a wind instrument anyway, but whatevs. I'm just glad that this is a thing.

I hope you're ready to take on a big responsibility with this thing, let me know if you need any co-director style help.

  10. Alright :), I've got your resources down on the first page as: Male Vocals (Baritone), Live Guitars, & Ethnical Percussion.

Ethnical Percussion is perfect for this album.

But I also play Ethnic Instruments which aren't percussion... in fact none of the ones I listed were percussion. :/

Also, already started on a mix to send you at some point soon.

I just jumped at the chance to mix my source tune. :P

  11. That is a lot :). Is there a general discription for the other instruments? Can I put you down as a Live Guitarist?

Well, I play Classical Guitar, Steel String Guitar, Jazz Guitar, Metal Guitar, Contemporary Strumma Strumma Guitar, Bass Guitar... any anything else in between.

I play various Percussion instruments, ukulele, shamisen, ocarina, mandolin, (Perhaps banjo in the near future ) and a teeeeensy bit of Erhu.

I also do programming with nice samples.

Oh, and I do Chippy-tune bits lol.

And my vox are a baritone/bass sort of range. As an example I have vox on the new Sonic CD album...

  12. Tuberz: That choir sounds really nice! That's the wordbuilder? I have to mess with that, I just got Symphonic Choirs myself. Makes for a really lovely, soft mix. Pretty track!

    N'awwww. Thankies darl.

But yeah, the wordbuilder is pretty alright.

There are some syllables that get lost in the mix, and unfortunately dynamics are REALLY hard to articulate (in FL at least).

I'd love to get this performed and recorded by the VGM Choir perhaps. I dunno, They mightn't waste their time on me. :P

I still feel bad that my production just wasn't there for my mix though. :/
