  1. well yes I'll admit this is quite annoying. No real contrast in the volumes of various instruments. Also I don't remember this music, but I haven't played the game in years. Man, what a great game that was. Such a great game. Man, I remember being freaked out by it for hours. It had such creepy ambience and there were the almost boobs that kept me hoping maybe there was a secret section that DIDN'T have nipple ribbons. But yeah, the game was pretty good. NO D
  2. well the bass at 1:20 is just really muddy because it's like chords at a really deep register. Just comes across really cloudy. Anyway, most of this has already been said, so I won't rehash. But it does seem more like an instrumental update than an arrangement or interpretation. Gonna have to go with the rest of the guys with: NO D
  3. Wow. The original is really nice. Don't think I've ever heard it before now. Ok, well the vocal sample is just a bit creepy, but the rest is nice. Well, compared to the original, this pretty much lacks all emotional quality that the first one had. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing because interpretation is a good thing, (in my opinion). In this case, I think it's the overall quality and lack of variety that kills it. The drums don't actually bother me as they're not SO intrusive as some have said. But the synths limit the variety that is possible. It's like you keep expecting something more and it never comes. so... NO And yes, FL does have that synth as a default sound as well. D
  4. Imagine if ffmusicdj (or any other trance artist for that matter) downgraded his instrument set. It'd sound like this. And I hate to compare works to each other 'cause that's not very fair, but I'm reminded of Zeratul's Magus Raw Trance Exhaustion, and this is the same tune in the same style but much lower qual... Ok, I need to look up smack. A white, odorless, bitter crystalline compound, C17H17NO(C2H3O2)2, that is derived from morphine and is a highly addictive narcotic. Also called diacetylmorphine. ohhhhhhhhh... regardless, I think the instrument set needs to get a quality upgrade in order to pull this off. NO D
  5. Well I see what prot's talking about with the ending. It's not only kind of sudden, but it's not like there's much build up to get us to an ending that satisfies. The muffled sound which you refer to doesn't bother me so much as the use of samples and the repetition which doesn't seem to go anywhere. The samples I speak of are the piano in the bass, and the fakish guitar sound. It gives it a General Midi sound, and makes me want to give it a NO. D
  6. Well it won't be hard to make the music sound better since the majority of it sucked for this game... Well you've got the volume part down-packed. No need to increase that. Ok, I know there's not much source material to work with here, but ... Gah... I don't know. It's a bit boring. I love the beat, though I'm a sucker for that sort of thing. Well, up til 2:44 anyway, then the beat becomes kind of kick-heavy. Ok I can see this working well in a club, perhaps, because of the outright simplicity, but I think it's way too repetitive and droning for a yes this time. I'd suggest going different places with it, even adding original material. You kind of have to with a source like this. Until then, though: NO D
  7. NO This is the only reason I'm going to post because this bugs me EVERYtime someone does it in a song. You have all this chordal build up. Chords, layers, TONS of repetition. Then the melody comes in at 1:33 and there is NO accompaniament??? Just a melody, on it's own, like you forgot to fill in the rest of the parts! So give us some back up here. That and the repetition with the very similar sounding instruments gets REALLY grating after a while. Justified enough? D
  8. Well I've read the other comments but haven't listened to this yet. If what Binnie stated was accurate, then I'd be inclined to agree with him that it seems like more of a WIP and should probably be completed first. But I'll take a listen first. Well it is a bit muddy. Actually, very. And there is some nice clipping right before the 2 minute mark. Yeah I'm gonna have to agree with the majority on this one. I mean, I don't HAVE to, but they make good points, which are reinforced when I listen to this. The guitar work IS good. But the recording is very much poo-poo. The frequencies covered seem low on the spectrum with a lot of high end not being covered, which can be ok sometimes, but it makes heavy guitar sound very muffled, which isn't so bad usually, but we're talking about melodic heavy guitar, so it's not so great in this sense. My recommendation would be to find someone who works well with processing and the aspects of arranging and sequencing that AREN'T the part that involve mad talent on the guitar. Actually the sequencing isn't so bad in this, it's more the recording. But it may be a bit close to the original, I don't know. Haven't heard it. But yeah, that'd be my thoughts. Especially if you still have the original of your guitar playing. Tweak the EQ on that, get someone to process it a good bit more cleanly, (or do it yourself, either way works) and I'd have to agree that some more drum work would make this mix fantastic. It DOES sound like a work in progress, but a GOOD work in progress. It would be nice to see a cleaner, better processed version on the front page. For now: NO D
  9. Well I hate to be the one to lock this thread with a big fat NO vote, but... oh hell, who am I kidding. I DO like doing that. No, but seriously, I haven't listened to this yet because it's not done downloading. Ok, it's done now. Wow.... Well, my ears aren't bleeding. Not yet anyway. The delay on a lot of these notes is leading to some very uncomfortable dissonances. The combination of instruements at 1:08 is actually pleasing, but it really does sound like a first try experiment that wasn't really in earnest a submission. If it IS a genuine submission, all I can say is good luck in the future. Though I'm a little uncertain of why this didn't just get the letter, this works too. NO D
  10. From The girl on the phone: It sounds like we're at beerfest or something at Busch Gardens. I guess it does sound like carnival drum 'n' bass music or something. Anyway, It's pretty spastic, and while neat for the novelty value, it's not really that fun to listen to, quite honestly. I think the drums are neato keen though hard to keep up with, but yeah, the rest seems to be lost in the drums. NO D
  11. one word: Annoying Another word: NO Ok, it's not all THAT bad. It's just really... annoyingly fast and cluttered. Though the amount of creativity that goes into the small amount of time is encouraging. But seriously, this could go through other phases. Try a half-time section or something completely off the wall, as if you haven't done enough that's off the wall. It can be done. D
  12. Once again, the girl on the phone has some input on this song: "What the hell is that? Your printer?" So I think that speaks for itself. NO But seriously, it's very ... loose. Like a 45 year old prostitute. And I can't tell if the guitars being out of tune is on purpose or not. I DO like the sound of the section between 1:18 and 1:32. But other than that, the rest sounds very dry, repetitive, and a slight bit out of tune. D
  13. Shit, this makes that Dreams in Red mix look like David Hasselhoff. This is some really good stuff. Ok, well it's not THAT great, but it's pretty good. Ok, actually, those sound effects are annoying as hell, and the spliced sections of other music don't really seem to fit ... what the hell... 1:43. There's this thing called transition. But shit, you did the lower norfair theme pretty damn well, which is a change, because NO one has done the lower norfair theme well. EVER. Those who try, usually flub. Even the great virt. So... YES D
  14. NO Lo-Q, unfinished, not to mention too reverby. Ok, well the ending is cool, but the rest is pretty lame. And the ending is only COOL because I thought you were going to go somewhere with it, but then you led me on like a lying bitch. I hate you. D
  15. ok... I'm biased on this song. Well, it kicks the pants off of Project X, but it's more than a bit crowded. Just musically. And the timing is quite off in sections. Over all it's pretty well done though. Albeit short... ok the constant kick drums are annoying. The ending is nice though. Actually I like that ending. It's original. And unique. Damn. Now I'm torn. Ok, fuck it: YES D
  16. yup. EQ loving. It needs some of that, and a kick in the drum section, and a quality boost. You're remixing music from a system that really doesn't need a quality boost. In fact, this is like a step down from the quality on the system, so it's gonna get a "no" from me. That looks like this: NO D
  17. The girl on the phone says "That sounds like a christmas song" so for that, I'm going to give it a NO for being out of season. No, I'm kidding. But the song really doesn't get cool til about half way through. So PLEASE make the first half cool then resubmit. And the drums could use an upping in quality. So... yeah. D
  18. well it doesn't really go far from the original... but the sounds ARE nice, and the drums are funky enough. ... Damn, I'm kind of torn. I don't want to say yes based solely on the sounds, but they DO sound nice. Now I know how Luke felt when he was tempted to join the Dark Side. Ah well, it's really not too different from the original except for the sounds used. So... NO D
  19. This is like white chicken meat: Dry. Really dry. Well, it's not so bad once the ghosty synths come in, 'cause they sort of hide the dryness of the rest of the mix. But it's still quite dry. I DO like the synths that come in at 1:27. The drums' frequencies could be upped a bit. I dunno. See, here's the thing. It's a really short song, so either it needs to be spectacular and still short, or it needs to be really varied given the lack of source material. This doesn't quite cut it in my book. But my book hasn't been published yet, so: NO D
  20. Fuck sample quality. The original is going to carry this. In fact, besides the arpeggios (and the icky notes (:38)) and the samples used, this is pretty much the same as the original, with updated samples. In a word: NO D
  21. ok, I just got my 'n' and 'o' keys replaced so it's time to get this shit out of the way again. I have a feeling this is one of those mixes where the samples are going to carry it, which to me, is bad. Because there's nothing spectacular about the music itself. It's like, ok, your sounds are beautiful... er... well, that harp arpeggio thingamy was in a completely different key. I see what cotmm's talking about now. Also around the 2:30-2:50 area there are quite a few flubs in the note department. I dunno. This doesn't sound very solid to me. The sounds are great, but the execution is... well.. subpar. This is just my opinion though, so: NO D
  22. ok I really should have just said no after my last post on this subject but here's to finishing what you start! NO D
  23. so.... we're not gonna kill the guy? What's up with that? I feel gypped. D
  24. Regardless of recording quality, this gets a no from me because of the excessive amount of bad notes throughout the whole song. It was a good attempt at reconstructing the chord progression from scratch, which I admire, but it falls short in too many places to get a yes from me. I'll post times when I'm back home, but for now: NO D
