  1. Thanks for the feedback, I'll have to take a close look at some of the mixing whenever I actually get some time. Good point about the transitions, certainly still something I'm trying to figure out. Personally, as one of the old DOS games that I played a good bit, yes, the actual melodies stand out for me for most of the track. With that said, I'm probably going to have to take a break from this one for a while before I can bring myself to come back and work on it more. I can only take so much of a song before I need to do something different
  2. Seems like a good start to me, but there are a few things that I think could be improved. First, your leads seem way too quiet. They can be heard over the rest of the mix, but only just. Second is just a general comment about repetition, this one feels like it could benefit from you switching it up a bit, either on the arrangement or instrumentation side (or perhaps both). And third is a recommendation to not do a fade-out ending
  3. I quite like it overall, and I greatly appreciate it not being hugely over-compressed and loud just to be loud. With that said, the one thing that seems to be missing to me is the dynamic range I usually expect from this sort of orchestral style. Personally I would like to see it get significantly louder during big dramatic sections, but as it is the volume level seems to stay fairly consistent throughout almost the entire piece. I think this robs it of a lot of the impact that those sections could have.
  4. Marked as ready for mod review, any feedback would be welcome.
  5. Hello everyone, this is a complete rework from my previous version of the menu and first level theme of the old DOS game Rollin Original songs: Menu: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bx_bZ0OhfYs2RlJWMzlKZEp3RVk Level 1: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bx_bZ0OhfYs2bVhidnNLNFlMdE0 Remix: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bx_bZ0OhfYs2bmtJc01GdnFZRjA I believe it's done, but any comments/feedback is most welcome! Also, any thoughts on a title would be appreciated
  6. I like it a lot, I think it's got some nice impact now and sounds good!
  7. Very cool, definitely like it so far. As far as where to go with it, personally I'd love to see some of the instruments from the intro come back on top of the dubstep, as I really enjoy a mix of traditional and electronic instruments.
  8. Sounds pretty good for the most part, but I think it sounds a bit thin and could use just a bit more bass. It's mainly early on, but I really have to crank it to get any real impact.
  9. Seems like a good start, but you definitely need to add something else as it's quite repetitive as it is now.
  10. Changed to finished, please let me know what you think.
  11. As someone else new to mixing I can't offer many specific suggestions, but here are some things that stood out to me: 1) No bass - This is killing the drums and making the song sound quite 'thin' 2) Centered - Almost all your sounds seem to be centered; try panning some to the left and right. 3) Compressed - The whole thing sounds too compressed (lacks dynamics) and it's clipping a lot. Honestly, first I'd try to get the whole thing to sound right at a lower volume (so no clipping) and then go from there. I do hope this helps, as I think you've got a very good start of a song here and I'd definitely like to hear a better version.
  12. Wasn't sure about some of the earlier versions, but this latest one is quite good. Got a couple small suggestions though: 1) With the piano to the right I found myself wanting something to the left to balance it out a bit (please note that I know my hearing leans toward the right somewhat, so it's quite possible that I'm the only one who thinks this ) 2) For your wobble bass I think it would be better if it didn't show up and disappear so abruptly. For example, the first time it shows up at 1:05 it might be better if it faded in right before you actually started using it at 1:05. And then from 1:08-1:15 I keep expecting it to show back up but it doesn't again until 1:15. And at 1:30 and 1:36 it feels a bit slow/off compared to the rest of your wobble writing. Basically, I think the wobble's a neat idea but it feels a bit disjoint from the rest of the song to me right now.
  13. Along with the excellent advice already mentioned, I think the main thing for me is the lack of dynamic range. Everything seems much too compressed and there's a noticeable amount of clipping going on. I certainly think you've got something good here, it just needs some small changes.
  14. Along with the other feedback you've already received, I think the biggest thing that stands out to me is that all your instruments seem to be centered. Panning some of them more would probably help a lot in separating the sounds so they don't blob together as much.
  15. Hello everyone, This is my mix of the main menu and level 1 themes of the old DOS game Rollin. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bx_bZ0OhfYs2d0RheHR6TFpTVEE I looked around on youtube but wasn't able to find both themes, so here's both of the original themes as well: Menu: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bx_bZ0OhfYs2RlJWMzlKZEp3RVk Level 1: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bx_bZ0OhfYs2bVhidnNLNFlMdE0 First time using google docs to share, let me know if it doesn't work. Personally I feel the mix is about done, but I'll probably end up changing more stuff before I'm fully satisfied. Any feedback is of course welcome. Aaron
