  1. Naah, I don't mind if this doesn't get submitted or anything. I just wanted to have some fun and make something to see if I could get the feel some of the original Gauntlet had.

If anything, I wish I could figure out where they get some of their samples from and work from there. Some of these things I've been able to find. Like, they used the base computer soundfonts for layers on a lot of stuff. But, other things, like their brass and strings, no idea.

  2. Was fun! Gauntlet Dark Legacy is my favorite ost. But, I realized I never actually listened to the original before. So, I tried to do a kinda fusion of the two styles into the title theme. Any excuse to put people screaming and random bat noises into a track I guess :P

  3. I've been writing some things off and on. But, the things I've written have been sitting there with no plays at all while my SSF2 stuff gains gradually traffic. So, here's a few things that I made in the last few months :)

Feel free to ask questions or comment on any of them. But, even if you just listen, that'd mean a lot.

  4. A not often talked about part of the music business :P A bit of background, I got a pad gig that will make a substantial amount of money. I've talked to other people about filing the taxes as the payments come in. The consensus was to find a professional to help. Does anyone have experience with looking for someone? Or, even better, does anyone know the ins and outs for this process?

  5. Honestly this piece is all over the place for me. I feel like the piece could be more cohesive but then I remind myself that you were doing it for class. I really enjoy the section that starts around 2:29 though. A little darker than I was expecting but it sets a nice mood. I generally like the dynamics you use and how the instruments speak, though there are times when the number of timbres clutter the musical portrait. Are you familiar with Ravel's introduction and Allegro for harp and Orchestra? It's a phenomenal work and may give you a better idea for tones, instrumentation and chordal progression.

    Best of luck! :)

My teacher had mentioned Ravel but we had mostly listened to Debussy. I'll have to give that piece a listen (and see if I can find a version with score!) Also, do you mind saying where the clutter is? I'd assume that it's near the end since that's where the majority of the instruments are together? Or is it a different section?

  6. Ooh, this sounds nice. Gives me some Megaman Zero vibes. If there was anything I had to criticize without going too microscopic, I can hear a bit of crush at around 1:39 and some other high intensity spots. Otherwise, Good job :) I love the sound choice.

  7. I don't know what the fugue a fugue is, but that was pretty cool. I enjoyed where your ear took the melody (quite unique). I am curious though, did you play it in free time or quantized? It sounded free, but that is some great playing if so.

Nah, it's all midi. I scored first in Finale then bounced to FL studio.

Pretty cool! I've experimented with some fugal writing before and its definitely not a simple task. I feel that the development could have been a bit longer once all of the voices entered. Pretty cool though.

Yeah, I think the piece in general could've been a bit longer. But, I only had a week to write the thing. So, it had to be a bit short :/

Definitely makes you appreciate the effort in writing fugues though.

  8. I've never monetized something with soundfonts before. However, as long as you stay away from really obvious rips (ex: insert game name here soundfonts) most of the other sounds are so similar to sounds in other banks it's almost impossible to figure out where they originally came from anyway (ex: Timpani soundfont :P.) But, if you want to be really safe, if anything is ripped don't use it.

My best resource I could give you is this

You can find links to quite a few different resources/soundfonts here. My personal favorite I've played with are for Roland. I'm almost positive there are some royalty free things here.
