  1. a wip of track 28/29 from the NSF can be found here:

    Mirror 1

    Mirror 2

    Mirror 3

    Mirror 4

i whipped this up pretty quick, cuz basically i had a bunch of ideas for the song and i wanted to get them down before i went to bed and forgot. the mixing is pretty crappy as a result of shoving it along, but i thinks the arrangement is showing through anyhow. umm. no more guitar at 3:30 in the morning. doesn't work so well. :o

    enjoy.

    feedback, comments, etc.

  2. this is definately one of my favorite remixes, despite its obvious shortcomings (really short, bad recording quality).

i think my main reason for liking it so much is the pure emotional qualities of this excellent arrangement. not to mention this guy is a pretty damn good guitarist.

if this were a studio quality recording, and if it was at least a little longer, it would be absolutely awesome beyond compare.

  3. SUM1 TURNED ON TEH CARAZY MUZAK MACHINE (aka StarBLaSt) AND MAED A REMX OF TEH ROBO TEHME. LOOK MA< I"M ON TV!

    NICE WORK STARBLAUETS.

  4. i rarely write reviews here... but i think this one needs it...

ok.. first off... WHY IS EVERYTHING SO DRY!??@%%

    :( :( :(

the intro is terrible, in my honest opinion... i mean seriously... gah.

what the hell is that horrible flute sounding thing? wow. yuck. and that guitar is just sorta there. it sounds SO quantized and lifeless. every note is the EXACT same volume. play with the velocities or something man.

same thing with that piano. SOOO DRY and lifeless. use some reverb! play with the velocities!

the backing strings work pretty well, although at some parts they are kinda overpowering.

that harp at 1:02 is blah also. once again. reverb plz!

1:14 ... now we're talkin... but that harp is still killing it for me.

1:25 now we're really moving... but still... the harp... gyah....... those drum samples could have also used a tad of reverb.

then at 1:51 it really kicks ass. the synth there ain't the greatest, but it actually works pretty well for this bit here. the strings backing the song work great.

at 2:35 you bring in another synth... it doesn't sound TERRIBLE... but it could have used some EQ (some of the notes just dont sit right with me for some reason)

and the ending... wtf? no wait... no yeah. wtf?

the ending would have been perfect if you held onto it for a whole measure and THEN dropped it or something.

ok... so here are my suggestions:

    A) Reverb!!!11111 It sounds SOOOO FREAKIN DRY MAN.

    B) Play with the velocities on the guitar and the piano. make it flow better if you know what i mean. it sounds like it's being played on a really cheesey non touch sensitive midi keyboard or something.

    C) find some not so GM sounding percussion samples... these aren't terrible, but there are tons of free ones out there that are a lot better, so there's really no excuse.

    D) EQ and mastering skills are your friend.

    E) Being able to end a song is your friend.

nothing personal, but i just feel like this song could be 10x better with a little more work.

  5. Ahh yes, someone mentioned a URL to this a week or so ago in #ocremix, and I picked it up. Love it. Definitely reminds me of AE. Wish I had the know how to give this a technical review, I'll leave that up to you remixers :P

btw: for anyone who wants to, try and get J:/Drive's version of the 600 A.D. theme, it's also really good.

yeah i've been listening to this for a while now, and i can't get enough of it.

glad to see it's on OCR to be shared by the masses!!

and yes... J:/Drive's 600 A.D. theme also kicks ass.

  6. this is great.

the ending theme from radical dreamers (Le Tresor Interdit) would easily be in my top 10 favorite songs of all time. Along with the epilogue from radical dreamers as well.

That game had some very very good music. Yasunori Mitsuda would have to be one of my heros.

    Anyways, on to the arrangement.

Some nice lush stuff going on here. Everything sounds great. Especially that piano.

The arrangement itself is genious. The piano flows smoothly throughout the entire song, and the percussion and everything else work together to bring you into this song. There's also many nuances that i've noticed that help make this song great. There are lots of little things that you may not notice by themselves, but without them the song wouldn't be itself.

    Overall, this is great.

One of my new favorites, definately.

Thanks for covering one of my favorite songs Kaijin. :)

  7. oh man

this is great. damnit. it's about time man.

downtime was an awesome song, and you took that greatness and applied it to chrono trigger.

    I LOVE YOU MAN!

there is nothing to complain about in this mix. it is damn near audio perfection. i don't see how anything could have been done differently.

no missed notes. no clipping. nothing. volumes are just right. exact amounts of reverb...

dan surely knows what he is doing.

  8. i dont make the samples, i mean i put them in arranged, like i dont ever "EVER" use the step sequencer, it just seems like cheating to me or something, i put all my percussion into the piano roll and i dont use i also dont use the playlist, i program everything into one full song... does this like eat up more memory or something?

that's very time consuming, and very much a pain in the ass. if you wanna go on doing it that way, fine. but the step sequencer and playlist editor are there for a reason. it's about six-thousand times easier to do it that way. also... well... nevermind.

  9. Actually this song was originally the theme for the first stage in kirby's dreamland. Then it was ported to the SNES's Kirby SuperStar (Star Kirby SuperDeluxe on the Super Famicom) under the game title Spring Breeze which is essentially the same game only colorized (and you couldn't have abilities in the game boy version).

Anyways, this arrangement starts off by greeting the listener with some seriously fat sweeps, followed by a sample of the kirbster himself screaming... something... in japanese... i guess... then comes the mad bass and a lead synth that reminds me of a kid with asthma hyperventilating (not necessarily a bad thing). the song continues on into upbeat chaos (MWAHHAHAHAHA) and the whole time you're smiling. if you listened to this mix and didn't crack a little smile, THERE'S SOMETHIN WRONG WITH YOU BOAH.

overall this is some seriously hyperactive upbeat fun stuff, and i recommend it to anyone who likes kirby, likes happy stuff, or likes to stuff cottonballs in their shorts.

  10. this song has a cool factor of like 68 billion or something.

this is a really freakin cool song. excellent arrangement and performance by mr mustin. there seems to be a few small timing problems (hardly noticable) but that's to be expected when playing live instruments. especially so many and one at a time (i think it would be kinda hard to play a guitar and a trombone or whatever at the same time). the fact that there's so few timing errors blows me away. i've tried doing stuff like this (recording each instrument seperately) and there's ALWAYS timing errors, but mustin pulls this here off masterfully.

i give mustin... uhhh... 5 lightbulbs or something

    :idea::idea::idea::idea::idea:

    yay

  11. Zelda 'Rabbit Joint Cover'

Every couple of months without fail some new guy on the forum pops up claiming this is from a group called "System of a Down". I have never heard System of a Down and don't really have any desire to, so I can't comment on that too much. All I can say I am sick of hearing about it and that this is definitely The Rabbit Joint and they have nothing to do with that other band.

Regardless this guy is definitely on acid or something. He is trippin' HARD. But that's what makes this tune so hilarious. The guy sounds like he is having a schizo attack and he's singing about Zelda. What more could you want? Definitely entertaining and stands up to repeated listenings, despite its craziness and lack of enunciation. Reminds me of that crazy guy in that old NES Zelda commercial with the freaked out look on his face screaming "Octarocks!!!" I guess Zelda and insanity go hand in hand.

blahahahahahahahahahahhahahaa that commercial was cool. i have it on mpg thx to six-something ^_^

    yep.

    this remix is a classic.

  12. this has to be one of my favorite OC ReMixes of all time.

lol... how does rama come up with that stuff?

anyways... i like it because it is different. you got to hear this on 5.1 surround sound (if you havent yet anyways). it owns you.

lots of fun little blips and noises make up the "percussion", which by themselves probably wouldnt make much sense, but when you put them together and mix in some crazy filtered like mad synth, it all comes together to make one beautiful mindalicious (new word? delicious for the brain. or something. bite me.) groove that is great for chilling to while fixing yourself a nice latte, or smashing human organs to pieces with a tire iron.

    either way.

    9.7/10

  13. sgtRama = dork

    anyways...

    i agree with him.

the samples arent exactly superior quality or whatever, but they work very well in this song.

the piano at the introduction is... so emotional (if ya know what i mean... not meaning to get mushy)

and there is just the right amount of reverb on everything.

    or something.

and uhh, i like the pizzicato stuff. it works very well.

    yes

and the tempo changes are great. yes. if i made this song it would suck so horribly that DC13 would have to shoot me in the foot or something.

(i am not making sense anymore am I)

and it doesnt cut off at all for me.

i don't know if you could do a better orchestral version of this song. this is good shtuff.

    anyways.

    i give it

    hrm
