  1. also, alternate costumes don't look to be very different from melee; all it is is different colors, judging from the screens

Unless the costumes are separate from the colors. As in, you can change regular Mario to look like Dr. Mario, but you'd still be able to choose pink, black, green, etc.

Still, costumes do sound unlikely since Daisy would be a perfect Peach costume.

  2. I picked this up earlier and I haven't played it much, about an hour maybe. I like it but the hype for it didn't really compare to Sunshines (at least to me). Because when i picked up Sunshine i played it ALL day and had like 70 shines at the end of the day. Maybe I'm just getting older. Seems pretty fun though.

See, I never got pumped for Sunshine. And to be honest, I wasn't too terribly excited about Galaxy, but man, I'm having a blast. I never really liked Sunshine all that much.

Also, the music is just plain awesome. DVDs for games, voice acting in MP3, and now orchestrated music in SM:Galaxy... Is Nintendo finally catching up to the the rest of the world?

  3. "It feels great to use all of your knowledge and techniques to shave off a hundredth of a second."

There you have it, folks. Sakurai himself approves of taking advantage of exploits. :<

Also further proof that he reads the OCR forums daily.

    By the way, replays FTW!

  4. Yea, glad to see they brought back some music from DKC. That was a nice tune in the background.

And also, going back a bit to the vaccuum cleaner discussion for Luigi, I suggest maybe it's a clone of Kirby's move and maybe the vaccuum cleaner gains the power of the different ppl it sucks in, just like it had some powers in Luigi's Mansion.

That seems a bit unlikely, but I guess it is a possibility. My first thought on the poltergust is it could possibly be used as a "long"-ranged grab, as well as a tether recovery (since that seems to be a bit more common in this game). It could also shoot fire and ice in Luigi's Mansion, so that's a possibility as well. Still, he'll most likely have the vacuum at least in one move (Mario got FLUDD after all). The poor guy finally gets his own game and now vacuums are synonymous with his name.

  5. I honestly hope they don't change a thing, and I'll be playing as Samus. A final smash should not be unavoidable, nor should it be able to kill off someone instantly. If they upped anything, it'd just be an easy button. The thing already shoved Mario off even though he was at 0% and needing to line it up is simply part of the challenge. I want to have to work a little bit to get it to hit otherwise it's just not fun.

  6. It's really difficult to tell from the videos, but it looks like you'll actually be able to do attacks after using your up special move. Jumping is obviously still out of the question. In the Sonic video, right after it shows Sonic balancing on the edge, it cuts to him, Donkey, Pit, and Mario duking it out on the Skyworld stage. Immediately after the scene changes, Sonic uses the spring jump up between Donkey and Pit, then proceeds to do an upwards corkscrew kick followed by the "Falcon Kick" into Donkey. Does this mean we'll be able to protect ourselves after using up specials? Or did Sonic just get hit on his way up, canceling his spring jump?

Also, Link's up special looks really cool, and I didn't think the animation for the warp star item could get any smoother/nicer looking.

  7. I had a feeling they'd return. Mostly due to the fact that they seem to be adding a lot of variety to how characters play. One of the quirkiest characters in Melee is the Ice Climbers pair, so it seemed natural that they'd be stickin' around. On another note... That fur looks great!

  8. So THAT'S why there were so many musicians. Haha. I kind of figured something like this would pop up, honestly (or hoping at the very least). With as many songs as it sounds like there will be, it'll be quite amazing if they all get an orchestral treatment (aside from the ones that are straight rips, of course). Still, music is usually one of the very last things finalized for a game. so it could really go either way.

  9. Wouldn't one of the problems with load times on doors be because of the larger disc size than the gamecube? I imagine it would take a little longer for things on the outer edge of the disc to load up since it requires more rotations. I could be wrong, I'm no expert on compact discs and such, however, this might also explain small rooms taking long times to load if their data is farther away from the center.

  10. But Smash is all about "Nintendo's Biggest Stars", and Sonic isn't really a star of Nintendo.

Nothing against the Sonic fans, but he shouldn't be in Smash.

Would you say the same of Solid Snake? He's not one of "Nintendo's Biggest Stars" either. Although I'll give you that he started out on Nintendo and Sonic didn't.

I think Smash Bros. is more of a fan service than anything else, honestly. And since Sonic's inclusion would please many, many fans, it seems there's a fairly good chance he'll get in. I really won't care either way since I'll be playing Samus regardless.

  11. No love for OCR blue version? Back when the site used to look good??? :(

Actually, there were two blue versions. 2 was a greenish-gray blue, and 3 was dark blue with the slightest hint of violet. I'm pretty sure you're talking about version 3. Also, OA and I seem to be the only people doing any kind of drawing so you can't expect only two people to do all of them at once. Thirdly, 3-Tan was one of the very first ones designed. I turned the 4-Tan I was working on into 3-Tan after Blackmyst's design became semi-official. I've got plans to alter the design a little bit as I feel some of the elements seem too tacked-on, but here are a couple images just to give you the idea.

I'll also be changing her bass to make it match her outfit a little more.

  12. Neat. Looks like a Cave Story character.
    OCR-tan Story, anyone?

Yeah, she really does look like she'd fit in Cave Story. She's not going to have white skin in the end though. I just wanted to throw something together before I posted and coloring the skin would take a little too much time.

If you kept her upper torso and drew a table where her arms appear to be resting against, she'd fit right in at a bar. If she's putting on the dance moves, she needs more flexibility overall (her belts can be wider, too, to give her more space to move around). The bottom tip of her hair (bending out from her back) looks out of place, whether she's at rest or in motion. And I'm sure you already notice how odd her right leg looks.

Clever choice with the red eyes; it goes with the pretzel and center of her headphones, plus it references the red eye / button on OCR2's front page. Her expression, I think, could show more focus and determination, whether she's checking out that eccentric drunkard or teaching a n00b how to tear up the dance floor. To me, her eyebrows and mouth project a "meh" sort of emo.

If the grays contrasted more, her collar would be more visible behind her semi-folded arms (Nice Work reference?). Contrast livens up stuff, too.

This is what I was looking for. Thanks.

Firstly, she's actually going to be resting on her instrument (a giant NES controller synthesizer), but the bar scene works too so I'll have to keep that in mind as I continue. Her hair was really an experiment. I was considering changing it, but I decided to see what people thought first. Thanks for confirming that for me. I think I'll just have it swoosh to the side a little bit instead. Yeah, her right leg is funky, but she's still in sketch form at the moment. Won't be too hard to fix.

The eyes (and the red color in general) was definitely a reference to the "button" on the page's header/sidebar. I'm glad someone noticed it. I've been having a hard time getting the right subtle expression on her face, as you noticed. I eventually gave up to continue along further down. I guess I'll have to go back to it again. Hopefully, I can get it right.

Again, thanks for the comments. I'm glad I posted before I got too far.

  13. Well, before I get too far along on her, I figure I should obtain some feedback from people on what I have so far. I've really based her outfit on Bonus's original 4-Tan designs, because a lot of people (myself included) liked it.

As you can see, I also threw some basic colors on her just to give the impression. I'm also not quite finished with all her clothing designs, but as I mentioned, I feel I need some feedback to see if I'm even headed in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

  14. Let's get some sprites going here, people!

I was thinking about it. A fighting game would so totally rock.

    Also: we got OCRv2-tan yet?

I've been trying to work on one. That's why there hasn't been anything from me for a little while. I'm just trying to get the best design that I can before I post it.

  15. Megaman influenced?

Actually, no. At least not intentionally. Megaman is probably my favorite game series of all time. So all my work is probably slightly influenced by it in one way or another.

  16. Who designed the OCR-tan mascot in the first place? David?
There were tons of pictures in the last thread, including a lovely one by BlackMyst that became semi-official. I believe Jill (pixietricks) cosplayed OCR-tan at this year's Otakon too.

The answer was actually mixed in with Darke's first post. I was one of the guys (Bonus was another) working on a design for OCR-Tan when Blackmyst flew in from out of nowhere with his crazy-awesome design. After Ol' Pretz said it was his favorite, I revamped mine into an OCR3-Tan to represent the previous OCR layout. After that, a little work was done on making an OCR1-Tan by Dish and myself (if I recall correctly), but the thread slowed to a halt and eventually died before anything else happened. :-?

  17. I always thought it'd be the most interesting if the smash balls were only obtainable once per fight. That way everyone would really be scrambling to get their hands on it. But whatever. The description on them wasn't very clear at all.
