  1. Man, I'd hate to have anything even remotely resembling that happen to me...

The track SnowBound he did for the Bound Together project is one of my favs, and it really would be a shame to lose such a talented Remixer/Super Metroid player.

And seeing as how I was bored/inspired, I decided to make a "Get Well Soon Card":

Don't hesitate to watch it more than once

I just have to say this is awesome, thank you so much :)

So Im back from the hospital and my specialist (gastro doctor) did wonders while i was there. I got some insanely powerful medicines to get me under control quick and im on my way to recovery! I feel soooo much better guys, and a lot of it is thanks to the huge amount of support and prayers ive gotten from this community, family, friends, churches, just everyone. God gave me this insane prayer army in my time of need so i thank you all from the bottom of my heart. When they printed me the first 12 pages of the thread and i read it in the hospital bed, tears came to my eyes just to see the amount of love and support i have from this community, my fans and everyone and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart, it means so much to me. So the news is, im getting better and will continue to! I just have to stick to the doctors orders. Thank you darkesword for getting together a little gift for me, that means SOOO much to me, i love that game and soundtrack and all the people involved. The only way i can repay is to tell you i have some insanely great remixes coming your way. I have 6 under the wraps, 1 almost done and i will finish it asap and submit it to OC so you can hear what ive been up to. Much love to you all of you <3 :)

  2. It's funny that he's touting the orchestral scheme to such an extent because I still think his Secret of Evermore soundtrack is his best work, as well as one of my favorite soundtracks. While I myself do orchestration and love it, I've always wished he'd return to the less conventional or smaller ensembles he made use of back in SoE.

I totally agree with that, I LOVE that soundtrack. Like I said its all about atmosphere and melody where appropriate.

  3. It definitely was a great interview and I appreciate a lot of what he was saying but I was a little upset about a bit of classical "elitism" that seemed to come thru in some of his passages.

Granted, he's one of the most talented musicians in the industry, and his work is among the most beautiful you could hope to find in any game soundtracks, period. And I definitely agree wholeheartedly with his whole stance on prefab music being overused in the industry.

But at the same time, the notion that classical composition is one of the pinnacles of musical achievement to me is a bit narrow-minded, especially as far as the work on this site is concerned. He even seemed to look down on sound design which I suppose makes sense because if you're conducting an orchestra you're basically working with preset sounds (instruments that haven't changed for hundreds of years sometimes).

But a lot of great work is based on sound design - on the discovery and creation of entirely new sounds and textures which cannot possibly be performed by any orchestral instrments. Drum loops and samples may be overused, but people can also use them in creative, interesting ways to make songs which are simply impossible to perform.

Trust me I'm not crapping on Jeremy's considerable talent. In fact, sometime in my life I'd like to study enough orchestration to be able to compose something that sounds as good as just ONE of his better works. But for all his merits, I wish he would've also emmbraced some of the newer, more modern forms and creation methods of music, instead of simply seeming to dismiss it in defense of orchestral music. There's other music out there that doesn't take 60 performers to play 15 different parts, and it's not fair to say that the experimental stuff is completely without its own musical merits as well.

Amen. Trance is the complete opposite of his style because its ALL about sound design. But the balance is a good melody as well. So many producers give the genre a bad name. If you can create an atmosphere, no matter the pallette, with a hummable melody, then you have accomplished something that has substance and sentiment IMO

  4. The intro could have been more spread out before the main synth comes in, but other than that it's about time that someone did this theme in a fitting way.

I've actually had an unfinished trance remix of this theme sitting on the drive for the past 1.5 years :-0 gotta finish it

Anyway, I always love listening to mazedudes mixes and this is no different. His style, and sound choices, remind me of what got me into game music in the first place. Good work brutha

  5. Several repeatings of JENOVA Celestial later, working in photoshop has yielded this artwork I made for my own use in a game called Stepmania.

Whenever I make artwork, I repeat a song 2-3 times before starting, then I let my imagination and musical interpretation run loose in the form of artwork while it continues to repeat.

This is one of my favorite tracks, hopefully this artwork shows it, too. =D

    Thank you, bLiNd.

In Stepmania, this image is shown when the player highlights the song in the music selection screen.

And this image is what is shown while playing the song, as a background image.

Hey thanks man, thats an honor! Glad you like the track. I really wanted that one to have all the best pieces of the original but totally change the feel to something more uplifting. The original is a little darker in its progressions, but thats what made it good. :)

  6. Hey! Thanks for all your support guys :) I appreciate the kind compliments and votes. We actually have A LOT of good tracks underway for Vega Projekt. Big thanks to Wu for pushing me on and hooking the goods up. The First Day is actually the only standard trance song we have done (with 1 other for a possible b-side) The rest are progressive. More of a house flavor with trance elements. Keep your eyes out for Vega Projekt as well as TONS of new remixes i have underwraps for OCR. Probably a good 7 remixes ive finished/finishing that no one has heard yet. ;)

  7. All optimaster is, is a finalizer like ultramaximizer by waves. The sound quality of their compression algorithm is insanely good and it really puts waves to shame. You would just have to try it to see what im saying. The limiter can be set to whatever you want. But on the pre-normalizer there is a headroom knob that only goes down to -.1db. Anyway thats irrelevant. When i say that optimasters compression is TRANSPARENT, i mean that there is NO squashing whatsoever. NO PUMPING at all...

TbT?!! FREE plugins, now thats a big warning sign to me for a quality compression. Now if you choose those over creamwares plugins, you are just ignorant.

I have a ton of trance vinyls that i have ripped myself mastered at -.2db to -1.db. You dont need to drag this conversation on anymore. Listen to my white skies club mix and you will hear the quality of the compression ive been talking about. Show me some examples of your own work (your own music) with your plugin choices and maybe ill respect your opinion more.

  8. So it's not true that mp3 compresses properly mastered material even further in terms of loudness.

I didnt mean in terms of loudness. I meant that the compression of the actual audio to mp3 can cause slight peaks and jumps causing the "Red light" on a vu meter to turn "on". You can usually see graphically the limiting on a wav but if you open the same wav as an mp3 you can see that the limited wav has been compressed. Usually an ultra high bitrate on the mp3 will clip less (And when i mean clip i mean 0db) then a normal bitrate. And let me clarify again, that i mean VISUALLY seeing the clipping on a VU, not actual audible distortion.
