  1. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1916334303/video-games-live-level-4-lets-do-it-again

    Video Games Live is doing another kickstarter to fund their 4th album release: Level 4. The planned line-up so far includes games like: Donkey Kong Country, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros., Metal Gear Solid 3, Bioshock, Cave Story, Assassin's Creed, and an orchestral take on Jillian Aversa and zircon's Opera mix from the FF6 Balance and Ruin album, among others. There will be other digital albums included as backer rewards including a new piano album of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross music. Definitely worth looking into.

    Too late for me, I already backed it! Only 3 weeks left until I get to see the show, YAY!

  2. Thank you for explaining these to me!

    I understand that these components are an important part of this app and that AudioBus and AudioCopy will most likely not be present on Android (at least not as a standard almost all apps use). Since Android is mostly open I take it one could (in theory) create these standards himself. I understand if this is too much work for one programmer.

    But, well, I'm jealous of you iOS guys! You get this sexy app and what is there in Android? Oh well...

  3. Jandalf, I'm not sure yet. A big part of the app's functionality is AudioCopy and Audiobus connectivity for adding realtime effects and sampling, and these technologies don't exist on Android. I'm not too familiar with chiptune players on Android so I'll have to check out the competition and see if GaMBi could succeed on that platform. It would take a lot of work because the UI is all built on Apple widgets.

    I don't know much about coding, but considering the competition (I found) you'd have at least one customer for an Android Version! I'd use it mainly as a pure player. Not sure what functionality AudioBus and AudioCopy provide under iOS. Are these essential to playing chiptunes?

    Only worthwile alternative I found is DroidSound which is... not so great, at least in my opinion... If you happen to know comparable apps let me know, please.

  4. You guys might have a new challenger today... ;-)

    Just came home with my brand new WiiU and MK8. Now I'll have to stay awake 'til 4.00 am (in my timezone). Well, at least I have some time to practice! HERE WE GOOOO!

  5. Thank you very much for your thoughts!

    After some hours of research I'm not so sure anymore if I really want to build an HTPC. As I understand it now, there's no legal way to receive HDTV (using HD+) with this (as the system seems to be closed). So my ultimate goal of replacing most devices cannot be reached, sadly. The HTPC would be another box in my shelf...

    I do already have a BluRay player (combined with an A/V-receiver), a Raspberry Pi (2nd gen, running RaspXBMC) and a ChromeCast. I'm just not really satisfied with these things... The NAS is a real one by Synology, a DS212+ (great thing, best decision to get that thing).

    Well, if I change my mind, I will consider your input and build some cheaper HTPC! Again, thanks for your input!

  6. First of all, I don't want to hijack this thread, so feel free to ignore my question if it doesn't fit here...

    I'm trying to build myself an HTPC. Since I live in Germany, ordering from you is sadly out of question. So I'm 'just' looking for advice...

    Here's what I want to be able to do with this HTPC:

    * watch videos from my NAS (which I have already)

    * listen to music from my NAS

    * watch DVDs and BluRays (D'oh!)

    * watch and record live TV via satellite (more on this later)

    * play emulated games (let's see up to which generation)

    * play some modern PC games (mostly multiplayer)

    Here's the part list which I'm looking to buy: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FkFRzy

    The HTPC will run Win7, XMBC and Steam, I already own a Logitech K400r and several XBox360 game pads for input.

    Can anyone here tell me his experience with these parts? I'm especially interested in the TV card! I live in Germany and have a satellite receiver with a HD+ card (needed for receiving the HD channels) which I want to replace with this HTPC. Will the selected TV card do? Do I need anything else? Do the same restrictions as 'normal' HDTV apply, e. g. not being able to fast forward etc.?

    Feel free to answer here or in the Reddit post I made here:

  7. Nintendo's running a promo where you can get a download code for a free copy of Pokémon X or Y, but only if you buy and register both a 3DS/2DS and one of six qualifying games during the entirety of March. If you've already got a 3DS, it won't do you any good; you've gotta buy a new one.

    Does anyone happen to know if this is US only? I couldn't find this promotion on the german site... ;-(

    Also, I will now add you guys into my friend list! ;-D

  8. For those looking for old school gameplay (RPG-ish) and some nice SciFi graphics, take a look at StarCrawlers:

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/125859261/starcrawlers

    They've almost reached their goal with 19 days to go, but more money can't hurt, right?

    Procedurally generated starships to loot and explore in first person-mode, baddies to fight in a RPG-ish style using different classes and skills... Sounds great to me!

  9. Hey there,

    I also got a 3DS recently, along with some games. Damn you, Nintendo, for making a grown man buy those childish games! ;-P

    I own

    * Bravely Default

    * PokéMon X

    * Super Mario 3D Land

    * The Legend of Zelda: A Link between Worlds (oh, the nostalgia)

    * a bunch of old DS games

    Anyway, here's my frind code:

    1950-9448-4365

    Please note, I haven't understood the concept of these friend codes yet... Do I get a message if one of you registers me as a friend? Does it have any benefits besides one slot on the friend list being taken (YAY, friends!)?

    Also, I'm from Germany, so I might be playing at strange times for you people.

  10. Some bands I'd like to recommend:

    * Hadouken!: Kind of like Linkin Park meets electro

    * Machinae Supremacy: great people, great music!

    * Chipzel: I'm missing the words here

    * Superlevel: not the artist but there be mixtapes with great chiptunes

    * Trash80: chiptunes at its finest

    * Benjamin Briggs: 'nuff said

    * Dunderpatrullen

    * Nullsleep: it doesn't get any chiptune-er

    * Superpowerless: oldschool

    Those should do for the next few hours... ;-P

  11. Jandalf, did you ever get my card?

    Oh, SORRY! Yes, I got it some days ago and forgot to post it here... ;-)

    Here it is:

    IMG_20131230_190616.jpg

    That is also very personal, could not buy that in a store ;-D

    Thank you very much!

    Dude, this is awesome.

    I love all these super personal gifts that clearly a lot of care went into, that come out of the OCR SS ^_^ Sehr gut, Jandalf!

    Danke schön, Diodes. Perhaps Santa will bring you something similar next year, if you behave well...

  12. Dude, don't worry about it. Germany, that's incredible and it entirely makes sense why it's a little late. No worries.

    So after an astonishing package from Germany arrives at my door...

    insert pic here

    A sweet card, and... oh my god, you made this, didn't you? You MADE this. You took what was once nothing and turned into this adorable Big Bang Theory cross stitch thing?! (I think that's the name of what this is?)

    Anyways it's adorable and worth the wait, thank you! <3

    Yeah, that was me... I'm glad you like it! Gifting it away after stitching for a solid 3 weeks was kind of hard. Making these is my secret hobby, as it is not really fitting for a grown man ;-)

    Anyways, enjoy looking at it as I enjoyed making it! And have a happy new year!

  13. RE: First meeting of Secret Santas

    Hi group,

    my name is Jandalf and I'm a Secret Santa.

    Today, I have a confession to make: I haven't learned a thing from last year's episode of anonymous gifting to complete internet strangers. Again, I'm very late to the party. Again, I started crafting my gift WAY too late. Again, I ran out of crafting resources (just like in MineCraft).

    So, I'm sitting here, crafting like there's no tomorrow and doing my best to finish my gift. I fear I won't make it in time!

    This is not meant to be an excuse for my misbehaviour. Instead, I hope to provide a valuable lesson for you people and my future self.

    So, future self, listen to past self:

    * Get into this group next year as soon as possible

    * Plan your gift really early

    * Get all the ressources you need

    * Get some more ressources as backup

    * Craft your gift in time

    * Ship it

    You can do it! Don't give up ho-ho-hope!

    Joking aside, I'm really sorry. My gift will most likely not arrive in time for Christmas...

  14. Its so big and pretty and I almost dont want to open it.

    almost.

    IMG_20131205_141951.jpg

    Major props to my SS! who is still unknown.

    Also ill be sending mine out soon I just got to get these final papers knocked out.

    Not to sound mean (sorry, kitty), but man, I'M JEALOUS!

    Also, gifts derived from the username are cool! I like that way of thinking... ;-P

  15. Sorry I couldn't get you some of the other things I had in mind, shipping to Germany would have made them prohibitively expensive. I haven't shipped your other half which is much more modest portion of the gift. I'll get on that this week...

    But! I'm a big fan of LotR myself and I received the American version of that Gandalf plush/doll thing as a gift once and I love it so I hope you'll enjoy that one. :)

    Also, the plush looks a lot cuter in your photo. I was hesitating on buying it because the product image on Amazon.de was very...creepy in a way. :P

    Don't worry, this is great! I'm also a big fan of LotR, I watch it at least once a year. All 3 parts in the extended version in one sitting, as it was intended, of course! I can't wait for the day the extended part 3 of "The Hobbit" arrives on BluRay. 6 movies in one sitting, that's going to be... tough.

  16. My recipient should get something by Monday and the other half in a week or so.

    Your recipient got something. Thank you very much!

    gandalf_th.jpg

    How eerily fitting! I'm getting a little grey myself. Fortunately, it's just one shade for me... ;-P

    My present is not quite ready for shipment. Sorry to my recipient, it will take another week or so... and then shipping it across the ocean. :-(

  17. Whoever gets linkspast, trade with me. I'll make it worth your while.

    You can always send presents to more than one person! ;-P

    We can make an awesome sex toy army under linkspast's Christmas tree happen. COME ON, OCReMix!

    On a more serious note, when exactly is thanksgiving for you guys and gals? In Germany, this would be October 6th... :-/

  18. Hey Bahamut,

    when are you going to close this thing and assign gifters and giftees (is that a word?)? I plan to craft something myself so I'd appreciate having some time for making and shipping the present...

    Not too stress you, I'm just curious.
