  1. So if 4 discs was $15k, bump that 25% for disc 5 = $18,750. $30,000 baseline - $18,750 adjusted cost = $11,250 for Square Enix, huh? I hope that's all, that it's a flat rate based on the printed discs and not a scaling 37.5 percent of whatever the Kickstarter takes in. As of this post that would be $23,344.50 for nothing more than saying "OK" (after imposing other requirements which we'll probably never hear about, including not using SE mascots on the front page). /bitter EDIT: I want to make abundantly clear it's SE I'm bitter toward, not anyone at OCR. I love this project and this community and wish you nothing but success. Probably half my iTunes library is OC ReMixes.
  2. Glad you guys got this back on track. I wish you greater success than you were on track to have before SE swept the leg.
  3. I totally understand this is a volunteer effort and you guys take on a bunch of amazing projects at once. I'd never complain about the rate at which you post stuff. But looking at the to-be-posted list (which is a nice level of transparency) I do feel bad for this guy or gal... "(2009/12/05) Lemmings 3D 'The Fog of War'" But I also wouldn't suggest posting the mixes in the order they're accepted/within a certain time limit/etc. because that could kill a lot of the diversity and freshness. I think the system you have in place works well, and you couldn't ask for a better problem than having too much stuff to judge and post.
  4. If you want to kickstart Kickstarter, you know where to start kicking... http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02308/
  5. Cool. Hope things can finally proceed and the album raises more cash than Ouya. ($8.6 million!! )
  6. I'm part of it as a 10-year fan and as someone who cares about how the community is treated/thought of, but this thread is basically the only one I've posted in for years. (I wish I had any musical talent whatsoever, because I'd be churning out ReMixes like nobody's business.) I guess I'm a very minuscule and unimportant representative... Nope, I can't be thankful for this. I'm thankful they made a great game once upon a time, but unless they want to release a bunch of memorabilia, FF6 now means more to fan nostalgia than their bottom line. They're just burning goodwill here. I find your perception of Square-Enix being "a good sport" interesting. We don't know what exactly happened unless/until DJP can tell us, but the fact that they *already* snubbed this project out suggests OCR was the one to initiate a conversation, to restore it. If SE was operating in good faith instead of in the presumption we were naughty, naughty fans, that seems like something you would do *after* negotiations fail. And what exactly would it be protecting its intellectual property from? Noncommercial use? Creativity and fan love? If they were trying to slap down somebody selling newly printed copies of the game or Kefka-outfit hoodies (do want), that would be a legit argument. But given that the express purpose of OCR is to raise appreciation of video game music as an art form, OCR is more likely to help than harm Square-Enix. They either didn't realize what the project was (which would hopefully make it being resumed more likely) or didn't care. That's a bad thing, not a good thing. That just contributes to the perception that they don't listen to their fans and hurts them. Last time Square (re)released an FFVI album was 2004, right? And that was already 10 years after the game's release. Aside from Theatrhythm and Dissidia in minor ways, they're not doing anything to draw attention to the game or its soundtrack. OCR is, in the most loving and non-confrontational way (excluding me) possible. It's not in their self-interest to shut that down. Anyway, I originally came here for answers, to vent a little, and to support the community. I don't want to get into a protracted argument about IP abuse or make anyone feel like I'm hurting the project's chances, so I'll resume lurk mode. Best of luck.
  7. Forgive me if I don't hold out an olive branch to IP lawyers who shoot first and ask questions later, if at all. "Just doing my job" is a crappy justification for dumping on a community project (or basically anything). It's wrongheaded bullying and disrespectful of their fans. And yeah, SwordBreaker, I'm still bitter over Chrono Resurrection, too. Though I can understand that more than shutting down an explicitly not-for-profit project by an established group. Fortunately, I don't represent the community in any way. I'm glad OCR is run by cooler heads, because it means this thing still has a shot.
  8. Saw the update on the front page, thanks for that. Man, screw Square-Enix. They're overzealous with their old IP because they haven't made anything worthwhile in years. If they can rerelease the same old games over and over and OVER with a fresh coat of paint for *profit*, fans can certainly do them one better by lovingly rearranging the music for *free*. Where's the petition? The pitchforks? I'm in. Let's do this. Edit: Oh, right. I have to wait to see if diplomacy fails. *puts out the torch*
  9. Sorry, I meant to make it clear in my post that no money has been taken. I meant the ambiguity was over whether it would be based on how people are still seeing their donations as "active." I feel like this must involve lawyers or you guys would say something more than you have. So I'll stop bugging and (openly) speculating. Good luck.
  10. I say this in the nicest way possible because I'm a huge long-time fan of OCR, but it's really silly to tell people to stop speculating when you've given zero details after several days. (Five? Six?) People are trying to support the site and the community with their money, and Kickstarter yanks the page without a word. There's not even an FAQ page on their site for the "no longer available" message that's displayed, so it's not at all clear what they've actually done or why. From the past few pages it's also obviously not clear to backers whether their contributions are active or not. Even if you guys don't 100% know the why of all this, you've been in touch and asked what's up and presumably gotten some kind of response by now, right? Why else would you say you expected to have an update yesterday? Why not share it? Does informing the community somehow hurt the chances of getting the project back online? I think transparency is the only way to reduce speculation. "We're working on it, sit tight" works for a day or two, but not a week. <3 you guys, and looking forward to hearing the music no matter what.
