  1. Hey folks! I'm excited to announced that Open Circuit is going to be hosting a listening party for Cory Johnson's upcoming album The Legend of Zelda. The album spans essentially the entire series, reinterpreting the music in an dark, epic, post-rock style. A demo version of the album was 'leaked' by Cory himself back in August 2011, but the final version of the album promises both a more polished sound and a more fleshed out track list.

All the info you need is at this facebook event page: http://www.facebook.com/events/163643360425096/

    Hope to see you there!

Originally released as a collection of unpolished demo recordings in August 2011, Cory's post-rock interpretation of the classic Zelda music took the internet by storm, garnering coverage from Destructoid, ScrewAttack, and more.

On Saturday, May 12th 2012, 5PM eastern, join Open Circuit on Arecibo Radio as we celebrate the long awaited debut of the finalized version of Cory Johnson's album The Legend of Zelda.

This will be the first place to hear the full album which is currently slated to include not only songs from the demo album, but also new arrangements of Gerudo Valley, Outset Island, Tal Tal Heights, and more! After the listening party, the album will be available as a free / pay what you want download hosted on Cory's bandcamp page http://coryjohnson.bandcamp.com/.

Keep checking back here for more info as the release date approaches, and follow Cory's progress on the album on his website: http://cory.fm/.

Apparently I didn't quite get my fill of Uematsu at MAGFest.

A few friends and I are spending the weekend in Toronto and the surrounding area, and going to the FF: Distant Worlds show on Saturday. I don't know if I'll be available for a full-fledged day-long OCR meetup, but I'd be down to hang out with anyone going to the show.

  3. I endorse this thread. c-jeff puts a hell of a lot of work into ubiktune, and it shows. Every release just oozes with quality, and every single one of them is worth your time (and in the cases of the albums that are not free, your money.)

Meteo touched on Shnabubula's NES Jamz, but there are a few more planned releases that are bound to blow your minds and/or socks off. There's a sequel to the SOUNDSHOCK: FM FUNK MADDNESS!! compilation in the works, and Diad (which consists of Heosphoros and Tadpole, two outstanding chip artists in their own right) is finishing up an album, and everything I've heard from them thus far has been nothing short of incredible.

  4. There are quite a few things in this thread that I don't necessarily like or agree with, but I'm going to gloss over all of that because...

For the record, I feel I've learned a lot about chiptunes and chiptune technique to the point where I'd be slightly embarrassed if that song were ever posted... however, I'd love to give it another shot with perhaps a VRC6 arrangement using far greater detail and variety of sound than I was capable of with espergirl
    FUCKYEAH ESPERGIRL VRC6!
  5. Did anyone get any audio / video footage of Battlecake's set on the second stage? I'm putting together a special for my radio show next week with live recordings of pretty much every band that performed at MAGFest this year, and these guys are one of the very few I don't have anything for.

  6. Just finished uploading the best of my photos to Facebook. Tag away!

Also, I shot some video with my 3DS... got some TSS, Minibosses, Super Guitar Bros, and maybe a bit of Danimal Cannon's chip set. Soon as I can replace the audio I'll be uploading the rest both to youtube and as a downloadable AVI file you can watch on your 3DS. Here's the first: Temp Sound Solutions playing TMNT and Moon Crystal.

edit: Here's Super Guitar Bros. with their Ninja Gaiden medley.

  7. I know for a fact it wasn't Luke's set (A_Rival), because he was hanging out right outside the concert room when this was going on. Dude just had a Gameboy, no laptop. I think he was black.
Ahh, then that was Dauragon. I stepped out for part of his set. (by this point, vodka had been consumed and boy was I feeling it. I kinda wish I could have retried DrunkenNES then, just to get an official record of how drunk I was...)

  8. And they start dancing with Animal Style while met with loud cheers from the crowd. He immediately grabs the closest microphone and says, "I don’t know where you girls came from, but you can stay up here as long as you want."

Whoa, I know I had had a few beers by the time Animal Style went up on stage, but I have no recollection of this happening.

    /sarcasm

I didn't actually get that drunk until one of the guys hanging around the visualists' table offered me one of those plastic water cups... with vodka. :o

    Your story took place during

(which I only saw part of, due to me drunkenly tripping over a chair near the soundboard and bruising / cutting my leg pretty bad.) Sadly there was a much smaller crowd in the room for Animal Style, he's a really talented dude and he played an great, albeit short set.\
