SSF works great, and has been for months (I tried it out sometime around May-July). I'm sure it's been working pretty good before that even, based on the forums over at emutalk.net. In fact, go visit the forums, and check out the compatibility list.
As for Dragon Force, could you please explain how to play it? I tried to play it months ago, but starting a new game made no sense whatsoever to me. I tried to read a FAQ, but the guy wrote the FAQ with the expectation that you've read the manual (which I uh... Lost... Yah, that's it... I lost it...). So, I'd really like to try this game out, but it so far makes no sense to me.
Also, most of the Shining Force games run great, but I've heard that the magic effect is screwy (I don't know what they mean. I might not be that far in the game). Really, a very capable emulator. There's also some pretty cool games for the system as well. Now, if only I knew which ones to get, and how to play them (Mainly, Dragon Force is the one that confuses me...).
One thing to note, is that analog control doesn't seem to be supported yet. At least, that's what I understand of it. Some people have asked about it, in regards to NiGHTs and Christmas NiGHTs (Christmas NiGHTs runs great, but I've had issues with NiGHTs. The newest version of SSF might have fixed them though, I'm not sure).
Anyway, glad you found a great emulator, and that it works for you. Hopefully, I can figure out Dragon Force... Mouser X out.
Here is vague but good guide to the game.
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/saturn/file/dragon_force_c.txt
This is more small but more in-depth manual type guide
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/saturn/file/dragon_force_a.txt
Other than that I will say that the game isn't as complicated as it may look, through there is definitely quite a bit of strategy involved.
Basically your goal is to gather the eight members of the Dragon Force together to fight Madruk god of destruction and the like; in order to do this you must
deploy your generals all over the continent and fight your way through to each Dragon Force member (the eight kingdom leaders). Each of your generals can have a certain amount of troops, and different troops have different weaknesses and stengths.(E.G Monks pwn cavalry). Each of your castles an hold 10 generals, and depending on wat level castle they ae they can hold a certain amount of troops to recuit in order to refill the troops you lose during battle (recruits refill over time).
Anyhow, it is easier to learn to play Dragon Force than it might seem at first glance; once you get the basics down you can just experiment from there. Just try playing it. All you really need to do in order to start out is deploy troops to enemy castles, and beat them using tactical formations which they describe in the guide. If you have any questions don't hesiate to ask; because this game is to awesome pass up in my opinion.

Oh man I still have dragon force, but my Saturn broke when I was clumsy and snapped the open disc tray
. Hurray! No more battery cells for save files. I like how everything looks sharper in those pics aswell.
Well then you can just get the emulator, pop in the disc, and start playing if you want. I just finished the game with Junon; so much fun.
-
Yeah, Dragon Force is pretty cool. It ain't no Panzer Dragoon Saga or Shining Force III, but It still rocked my world back in the late 90's.
Man, I hope the Saturn emulator actually works. Every other Saturn Emulator Ive ever downloaded either didn't work at all or, in one case, only played Sonic 3D.
Same here on the bottom part (I really need to play SF III right now since I have beaten I and II).
I can' believe this Saturn emulator works almost flawlessly (sound is a bit off in some places)

Thread I posted in unmod, maybe Gendisc will appreciate it more since unmod does not appreciate it's awesomeness enough:
I was browsing unmod.org the other day, and Leokef (THANK YOU) posts this
You can give SSF a shot.'(no roms at this website mods)'Not sure if it'll work; Saturn emulators seem behind the curve.
Now I went to a rom website and got the rom (mounted it on a virtual drive using alcohol 120% or some other program);and now I can play one of the best games ever on my PC. I have been wanting to play Dragon Force again for so long, and this is SO FUCKING AWESOME. I used to play it all of the time but a friend "borrowed it" forever when he moved.
I cannot express in words how happy I am, but I just woke up from playing Dragon Force for 24 hours straight and almost beating it. Whether you have or haven't played Dragon Force, do it NOW.
Edit: Pics:

That mall had everything!
That was an awesome video, if only store security cameras were better quality.

And I still laugh at the laughably long loading times the PS3 will have. Trying to pump 4+ times the data, through something running as fast as a 4x DVD drive(2x BD-ROM=4x DVD-ROM stream speeds), when the PS2 had a 2x DVD drive in it. That means you'll be looking at no less than double the loading times.
I do too. I mean, when are we going to get rid of the fucking annoying load times if shitheads like this guys never do something about it? I've read of X360 games actually loading faster and working smoother than the ps3 counterpart, what the hell? I thought this generation load times could get lessened because the companies would include faster and more efficient reading devices. Alas, we are getting worse loads than in our old ps2's. This makes me sad.
Unfortunately for your argument, Blu-ray actually has a much higher read speed than DVD, so a 4x BD drive is far greater than a 2x DVD player. Look it up on Wikipedia if you want (I'm too lazy), or just trust me. Still, even if it is faster the load times are going to be pretty high.
Ps3 = Blu-Ray Drive 2x
xbox360 = 12x dvd drive
Blu-Ray Transfer speed = 36 Mbps
DVD Transfer speed = 10 Mps
Total:
ps3's BR = 72 Mbps
xbox 360 DVD = 120 Mbps
Yeah, I am still curious why they couldn't bring the read speeds up; I remember back at CES 2002 they were showing off Blu-Ray, but I guess most if not all new media formats seem to have slower read speeds.
I don't think it will matter too much though, since PS3 can cache and store things on it's built-in hard drive that comes with every console, so it is just up to the game developers to implement this usage.

Trying to get Zeromus while all my characters are level 32. I managed to get him all the way down to a little less than 1/6 health and am so close to being able to beat him. Any tips?

Well now selling the PS3 may not be worth it for some since they usually only seem to go from $200 to $400 over their price now, but this idea is nice:
-
I watched an employee play some dirt racing game today. The only thing that looked awesome was all the stuff in the background with how clear it looked. I couldn't believe how shitty the grass was(lolpeoplemakingfunofCoD3ontheWii). You know how the trees are on Mario 64? The way it faces follows you whenever you go, well that's how the grass was in this game.
Also, the motion sensing controller does not work well at all.
I was wondering when this would turn up:
Smashmyps3.com
If you are talking about Motor Storm then I have to say I had a somewhat different impression of it. The graphics looked insanely awesome apart from the bushes and stuff which looked added rather than natural, but the reflection mapping on the vehicles, the particle effects, and the clearness of it all was pretty damn amazing. There were some problems with anti-aliasing,
and the environment I played in was somewhat drab, but it still looked insane. Also if you crash to hard into something your car explodes and you can see every part in the air, and then it does a freeze frame and does a matrix style effect around all the parts (really awesome). It may not be the best for the PS3, but I don't think the graphics can be easily dissed. Also, I thought the motion controlling was even better than the analog stick, and that it was really badass, but maybe you were playing another game.
Also, everyone should see this game in action. Watch one of the gameplay videos on IGN. This is the actual gameplay, and I can't believe how close they were able to come to their E3 demo video (and this is a launch title!). http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748488/vids_1.html

Lol, while I was calling KBtoys to ask them when they were selling the PS3 online they had just put it up for sale, and the representative says it sold out in two minutes. I wouldn't have bought it there anyway since they have a retarded $1000 bundle pack that doesn't even include Resistance
.

3 of my friends stood in line tonight for about 4 hours and came back empty-handed. They tried to get me to go but I had enough sense to know the odds weren't in my favor. I would have sold it on ebay anyway...I don't care about PS3.
Most of the people camping are resellers.
Yeah, there are like 100,000 or so available in US I think, so I'm not going to be surprised if there's at least 10,000 of them up on ebay by the weekend. If I wasn't broke I would just get a Wii this weekend, but it looks like I'll have to wait awhile for that.
10,000? I'm willing to bet 50% of the launch or more are going to be ebayed.
And for those who want confirmation on the Costco thing, here ya go (you need to get a forum membership to see but it's well worth it).
Thank you for the tip Bahamut
Anybody have a Costco membership card number I can use... Please?
If not I will just have to sit and wait to see if KBtoys does anything, but Costco sounds like a good bet if I click fast (Just need a membership number)
http://www.kbtoys.com/vgames/PLTPS3.html
If not I guess it is back to waiting again

Okay, so I'm in kinda a dellema here. I'm almost guaranteed to get a PS3 at launch, and my original plan was to keep it in all it's $600 glory. However, after reading about these problems for the first gen consoles, and after my good computer imploded; I've been wondering if I should sell it on ebay and use the cash toward a new/better computer. Help plz?
I doubt it will be defective since I wouldn't expect Sony to screw up another console; there are currently only a few lemons in Japan.
It really depends how much you care about the money, and if you will be able to afford another PS3 later. If you have a good income then selling it would be somewhat pointless. Of course I think the PS3 will be
an awesome console, so I would keep it personally, but that is just me.
-
Well I went to a target at 8:00 AM, and after a about five or six hours of waiting their I discovered there were only eight PS3 units at the target I went to and I happened to be number nine in line...
I was actually number seven but two dicks were "reserving" spots for someone else who hadn't been there the whole day. Unfortunately the manager wouldn't do anything about it since the people made some retarded excuses saying that their cousin had to go to school; though I didn't expect the Target manager to do anything since Target sucks (Which is why I went there since I was much more likely to get one there and could have if I came the night before).
Whatever I guess I have to wait. It doesn't matter too much, but it would have been nice to get one.
I did however get to play the display model for about an hour and was really great (I played Motor Storm). I will tell you things I know now from having played it:
-Really badass and extremely precise motion control (at least it was in the driving game I played; it looks like they put much more effort into making the motion controller good than I would have thought.)
-The triggers on the back of the controller are even better than they look, I would say they are 98% as good as the triggers on the Xbox 360.
-The D-pad is actually much better. It is much less slippery and hard than a Playstation 2 controller, and it has a nice slight texture on it that adheres your thumb to the pad. It may seem like a small difference to some, but I was impressed.
-The game I played, Motor Storm had extremely awesome looking graphics, but it seemed to lack anti-aliasing which made things still pretty jaggy. I am guessing that this is the developers fault since I'm sure the PS3 can put up with a little bit of anti-aliasing.
One thing that stood out in the game it the fact that when you crash, your vehicle explodes, and you see all of the parts in the air; then it freezes fram and does a matrix effect around every miniscule part, it was great.
Anyhow, I wonder when the next shipment will be... January?

Amazing screens Atomicfog. Everytime I hear someone bitching about the PS3's price or whatever nitpicky thing is the topic of the week, I just wonder how their views will change once they actually experience some of these games. Yes, graphics aren't everything, but DAMN. And for the first time these kinds of screenshots aren't followed by the comment, "Yeah, but how will it look on your TV with crappy resolution?" If you're lucky enough to have a widescreen HD setup I'd say be prepared to have your mind blown. Even if you don't, it will still be an amazing experience. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these things...
I honestly don't see how Resistance's graphics are better then the ones in Gears of War.
And that's my second biggest gripe with the machine. First is the price, which means I won't even get one until like 4 years after launch, but we've been through that. The second is that the main selling point of the machine is the fact their games look prettier then everyone else's. But so far, they look pretty much the same as some of the 360 games. The price difference is huge here, and their clear-cut advantage disappears when comparing certain games?
The graphics aren't better than GOW, but GOW came in an entire year after the Xbox 360 was released.
I really don't think any other Xbox 360 games compare in terms of graphics; though even if you did think so I would have to point out that this game stays at a solid 30 fps even with 40 player multiplayer.
And, the power still left unharnessed on the PS3 is an insane amount; these are only launch games that are looking this awesome.
Those pics do not impress me at all (at least of Lair). Much of them show a lack of polish overall and use tricks like lighting to cover up some of the poor quality in some of them. You'd think with all that space they have they could afford some decent anti-aliasing.
That does not, however, apply to Resistance. That game looks truly kick arse. To be honest, I would expect nothing less from a $600 console.
Yeah, in those screens Lair seems to be suffering a little bit from jaggies, but the game isn't a launch title and they have plenty of time to fix that. Even if it did stay that way the the videos of the game make it look so awesomely fun that I must get it whenever it comes out (as long as it gets good reviews which I am pretty damn sure it will.). You should watch the developer interview though, it sound like the controls on the game are going to utilize the six axis controller VERY nicely. I'm so excited
.
Blu-Ray discs are 25gigs right? So how much space are they NOT using when making these games?Resistance, for example, uses 16GB I think.
Wow, what makes it so huge though? I mean, it looks like an FPS on a PC and those use DVDs.
Indeed. Even gargantuan fps like UT2k4 and farcry don't take that much, I smell inflation in those numbers. The game seems good and has tons of stuff, but I don't think they crammed so much different stuff to have to use 16 gb of space, even moreso by seeing in videos and images the same enemies over and over.
The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc.
http://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=34764
According to Ryan Schneider, spokesman for Insomniac Games, "Resistance: Fall of Man" Blu-ray PS3 game is making good use of the new format, using up a massive 22 gigabytes for music, level data, textures and code. These discs can only hold 25 gigabytes in total per layer. Pointing to the fact that HD-DVD cannot store this much information on a single layer disc, he kind of threw some sand in Microsoft and Toshiba's eyes. He said for this reason of extra storage capacity, this game will be PS3/Blu-ray only.Schneider offered some distinguishing stats (which he called MTV News on Tuesday to further clarify). The game, he said, currently takes up 22 Gigabytes of memory on a Blu-Ray disc, the new disc format supported by the PS3 that is one-half of a VHS-vs.-Betamax format war erupting between tech companies throughout the year. While the music and vocals in "Resistance" take up only about 1 Gigabyte of disc space, graphics, level data and programming code occupy most of the remaining 21.
I haven't played the game so I don't know how all of this game so I don't know just how everything is utilized, but with 40 player multiplayer, massive environments, a 15 hour single player campaign, Insanely awesome normal mapping... etc I can see them using up around this much space; Though I really assume that much of the space was used up because they had the space and didn't feel like compressing things
which is usually done with large DVD games. I'm pretty sure leaving it uncompressed also speeds up the game alot since the data doesn't need to be uncompressed, this may be one of the reasons why it the frame rate never hiccups throughout the entire game. Just speculation though.

Yeah, or trying to say that it couldn't possibly look like that in-game.
Also, I like the start of Resistance Review on IGN:
Owners of some gaming systems have to wait years before they get a true "killer app," but PlayStation 3 users get theirs on day one. Insomniac's Resistance: Fall of Man is far and away the most impressive title on the console -- delivering on everything that it promised with a strong single-player experience, plenty of kick-ass multiplayer options, and stellar gameplay mechanics that equal those found in other elite shooters. But being like "other elite shooters" isn't what makes Resistance so compelling... it's what separates it from competitors that does. -
Very impressive pictures.
What's the frame rate?
Here is what IGN said about Resistance's frame rate:
The framerate is locked at 30 the whole way through and doesn't falter anywhere... ever. -
Look at the awesomeness of the games. Screw everything else for now. One launch game and one game that will probably come out sometime within a few months of launch that look fucking badass:
Lair - Video - http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/761/761161/vids_1.html
Resistance: Fall of Man - Video - http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748483/vids_1.html
We get a KILLER APP day ONE.
Also another game I might consider picking up at launch:
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom - Video - http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/814/814614/vids_1.html

I plan on camping out on Thursday, but not this early... Do I have a chance?
If the line is greater than like...5 people, probably not.
Yeah, I know that. I am just curious if it will be.

Trying to get this back on topic, here's a shot of a PS3 game case:
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/ps3/case-shot-of-ps3s-sonic-the-hedgehog-201176.php
The only case I have that even closely resembles that is the tin that Serenity came in, and even then a normal DVD case was inside. That won't stick out further when put on a shelf with normal games/DVDs, will it?
I hope not... It looks kind of squat so maybe it's the same height as a regular DVD case. There is enough wasted space in regular DVD cases as it is that I sure hope they don't make them bigger. I guess the blue part is supposed to indicate it's a Blu-Ray game, but if there are DVD games for the PS3 will they be in regular cases? It would suck to have more than one type of case. I'm totally into having my games looking neat on a shelf.
I don't have a source, but I am positive I read in one of my gaming magazines (Game Informer or PSM) that Sony has decided that ALL PS3 games are going to be on Blu-Ray disks, no mix of Blue-ray and DVD.

From Engadget, some Chinese site called ChinaGBA takes apart the SIXAXIS controller.
http://www.cngba.com/viewthread.php?tid=16197147&extra=page%3D1
Wow, that is really interesting; I wish I could read it though.
Wow looks just like the insides of a ps2 conrtoller. well except for the battery pack and the leds.
Similar, but there actually quite a few differences.

Seriously, what use are ethics to a big company? Absolutely nothing.
Well, ethics towards their customers is extremely important; but I have never had any problems with Sony.
-
I have to see Evilhead's comment on this. I really do.
Since when have I become the representative of Sony?
I couldn't care less what the company does. Kill off small businesses? Do I give a shit? No. All I care about is the games. Everything else is just politics, and extremely stupid politics at that. If you are going to get up in arms about something, there are many more pressing matters in the world today. Video games are not that important.
Damn right. QFE.
