  1. Okay, time for the antithesis post...

ALL TIME EASIEST BOSS... after the longest and hardest setup.

I was unfortunate enough to own a copy of Ultra's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," a functionally simple platformer whose complexity lay in the programmers' humorless idea of a joke by designing mind-numbingly frustrating levels and maps. The design is so specific to the level, in fact, that certain jumps make you appreciate anew the difference between a couple of pixels.

Levels include a three-platformed drop through turtle-sized holes while beating some spiked walls looking to squeeze you into green goo; a level boss who's located on the other side of a masterfully timed jump to a platform located off-screen (i.e. you don't know it's there) that must be made in conjunction with a masterfully timed projectile meant to eliminate the enemy waiting at that side, whose presence limits your ability to land the jump; the infamous Hudson River, whose contents include 8 bombs that must be defused, all in the time of three minutes (a timer is on-screen) while your precious turtles suffer damage from relentless omnipresent life-sucking... plants... with no method of replenishing life in sight.

All this and more to set the path for... Shredder, of course. Arriving in, yes, a Bolt of UberLightning, Donatello cowers in the corner as the final boss of this unfairly difficult game strides over to undermine the skill you thought you had for even getting this far...

Just to take it up the ass when one swipe from Donatello's Bo knocks him to the floor, allowing for a half-second delay animation, followed by a second swipe from the Bo, followed by a third, and a fourth, and...

    That's it. Teh Suxor. Booooooorrring.

    The game bitched at by

I had that game... WORST. GAMING. MEMORIES. EVER.

It didn't last very long in my clutches... I died multiple times over and over trying to defuse all 8 bombs without killing off the turtles... I think I even broke a controller or two... and eventually the cartridge...

  2. unfortunately ocr remixes aren't exactly things that can just be "taken down"

but I mean, if you listened to the greatest remix ever, like the best take on any video game theme you've ever heard in any genre in your entire life, and noticed that it's "missing bass", would that seriously be an instant turn-off for you? you need to give the music you listen to more room to breathe... it's art, whether you agree or not, it's art

like, get my point? I'm just saying you're focusing on the wrong aspects of the music

I honestly think you would enjoy this release a lot more if you threw out all the preconceptions you have about how the mix was made and what you believe it to be missing, and just listen to it in the context of "I played tetris, I recognize this song, let's see what this musician has to contribute to this"

also, I'm not arguing because I think you're wrong, I'm arguing to try and show you HOW to enjoy this remix... because I really think you're just approaching it from an awkward angle

if not, ignore me, but at least give it a shot

    afk

Eh, you're right. I've been listening to it more, and it's growing on me.

That being said, I still think it's missing something, but I can't put my finger on what.

  3. I'm sorry to say this, but...

I honestly don't see how it got onto the site. It's alright, but it's missing bass, and sounds like chthonic did this in 4 sittings (which was stated in the remix upon download).

Then again, I don't have the programs or ability needed to produce my own remixes, so just ignore my ramblings. But I say, take this down and refine it a bit.

  4. Except that Dr. Mario is decent, whereas Columns sucks it hard.

    Hey, I liked Columns.

And the remix for the music for Columns rocks so much harder than the remix for Dr. Mario.

Anyway... (gotta think WAAAAAAY back to the NES days...) um... another game... Dragon Warrior, I think it was called. You play a warrior guy in one stage on a side scrolling mission, and some of the stages you play a dragon with different breath attacks... it was pretty fun. I gotta find another ROM of that game...

  5. Gauntlet

    City Connection

Skate or Die (1 and 2)

    Monsters in My Pocket

    Excitebike

City Connection... while an annoying game when it comes to controls, plot, and music, other than that, it's quite addicting. I actually want to attempt to remix the music of the first level...

Monsters in My Pocket brings back some serious memories. I never did beat that game.

The original Gauntlet was fun, and even more so when you have a second player.

  6. If you think that's hard you're going to HATE that game. That part's a breeze compared to the rest. Wait till you have to shoot down an Apache helicopter with a bow and arrow. I lost my freaking mind at that part. Ninja Gaiden for XBox is one of the best video games of its generation because it presents a challenge that few games have. Unrelenting enemies with decent AI, and just plain meaness and unfairness. I hate games where a dragon bites you practically in half, and only a small portion of life is depleted. If you get bitten in NG, you're either dead,or seriously wounded.

I've read somewhere that if you hide and just wait it out, the helicopter eventually just flies away. Fight done!

  7. I never had the appourunity to play the original Ninja Gaiden, since... well, I suck at the XBox version, so I'm not very far through it, and have not been able to aquire the original games in it yet.

It's not a boss, but the part that has me hung up right now is that damned boulder in the underground part beneath the cathedral. Like I said, I suck at this game.
