  1. hehe- this is really my kind of thing. Great interpretation of the original- incredible work. YES
  2. Cool- although perhaps we're pushing the ratio of original to remixed material a little too far. This is borderline "original piece that uses a videogame audio sample" unless I'm missing something. But nonetheless- an enjoyable listen.
  3. What's "almost" sonata-allegro? I guess they're usually found as the first movement of almost symphonies. But anyway- yeah, the arrangement is fairly nice. Sound quality isn't great, but arrangement makes up for it with some nice ideas and expansions on the original. Not jawdropping- but mostly enjoyable. YES
  4. Well, I downloaded the original from Zophar and it annoyed me to no end. And yet despite that, I enjoyed this mix. So that's got to say something, right? Not thrilled with the slowdown at 1:18 - but hey, at least you were trying to do something different. And the instrument you're using for lead can be rather piercing, particularly when it's more exposed at the end. But all in all- fun stuff. YES
  5. Hera's Lounge is apparently in a cave. This is reverbed like crazy. Not too bad- gets a few bonus points for trying something a little different for this community. The drummer is on autopilot- daydreaming of better days I guess. It'd be nice to hear some fills or something. I would have liked to have more attention paid to dynamics and expression. Jazz is more of a "live" medium and this mix doesn't make much attempt at capturing that aspect. But nonetheless, it's a fairly nice arrangement and something a little different. I wish it were better, but I'll go ahead and give it a YES
  6. I don't know, maybe it was done on purpose (who knows these days?), but the piece seems to glitch alot. (:10; :36 etc.) It doesn't seem intentional, and they are rather distracting. And the arrangement isn't really strong enough to overcome the constant skips and glitches. NO - although, if another judge thinks those glitches are stylistic, I'll look into this one again.
  7. Not bad, here's what I hear: Excellent development on the rhythms and the piece follows a well thought out form. Despite the length, everything seems to have been developed sufficiently. Alot of clipping at the louder sections. And the bass should be perhaps raised an octave at times- the lower register is fairly muddy. Also, the ending is cut off. Some decent attention paid to dynamics, but I'd like to hear more. I like the arrangement, but there are few technical problems (like the clipping) that are very distracting and easily fixed. NO for now, but I'd be interested in a resubmit.
  8. Yeah, I'm with the others on this one- just not enough going on here. Simplistic arrangement with generic dance drums. NO
  9. Basically the original with an updated soundset- now despite that, I think this is a particularly well-done update and alot of fun to listen to. However, as was mentioned by the others, this is quite repetitive and follows the original rather closely. Cool- but it's not really what this site is about. Definitely post this on the forums though. A reluctant NO
  10. This is annoying...not because it's a bad mix, but because there's so much untapped potential. What's here is pretty nice, the drums and sound effects present a nice atmosphere, and the original material is well sequenced - but it's so short that there isn't time to really develop things or add ideas to the original, and as a result you end up with the original piece with cool percussion. NO for now, but if you expanded on it, this could be a rather cool mix.
  11. Largely the original with different (and not to mention, odd) instruments. I'm listening on headphones and the way this is eq'd is downright painful unfortunately. And I agree that the tempo changes aren't terribly successful. Nice effort, but I'll have to go with a NO
  12. hehe- this is pretty cool. Lots of ideas here and a mishmash of styles. Well done mix with a unique sound- definitely my kind of piece. YES
  13. Hmm...a tricky one. Sound quality isn't great, and the arrangement, while fairly nice, isn't really anything special. I don't know- it's borderline. But the arrangement is mostly well done, and the piece is enjoyable so, I'll go with a YES
  14. Not too bad- but I agree with the others. Sound quality is a little subpar and the arrangement doesn't have much variety and sticks a little too close to the original. Still- it is fairly enjoyable, I hope you'll continue to do mixes. But for this one, I'll have to go with a NO
  15. Great mix here. Not much to say- this is really standout work. YES
  16. yeah, the mixing leaves alot to be desired- but it's not *that* bad, and this is still much better than the average mix. Solid guitar playing, good variety of ideas - all in all, pretty groovy stuff. YES
  17. A bit repetitive, but overall I felt this was an above-average mix and pretty darn enoyable to boot. ocr quality in my opinion YES
  18. Info: This is a completely different take of my Distorted Star rejection some months ago. It's done in a very mellow new age/ambient style. There is some new harmony and instrumentation added to the other version I submitted. My vision for this mix is to give the feeling of an eternal space voyage, something that feels eternal and constant. Game: Secret of Mana Title: Drifting Towards The Stars Mixer: GrayLightning URL:
  19. Pretty simplistic to my ears; doesn't really add much to original except for the dance beat. It's also a tad repetitive. Doesn't do anything particularly wrong, but there are already several mixes of the piece and this version doesn't really have anything new to add. NO
  20. I've had this one for a while now and I really like it. Very soothing sort of arrangement. Seems to be some rhythmic mistakes every now and then, but overall very nice. YES
  21. I actually kinda enjoyed this, but I can't really let it pass. It seems to clip alot, but maybe it's just my setup As the others have said, it's extremely simplistic and basically just repeats the melody several times throughout using different synths Has very default FL-ish synth sounds Again, it's kinda fun, but it doesn't do anything particularly standout and suffers from a few too many problems. NO
  22. The arrangement here isn't really that bad- it manages to really highlight some of the strengths of the original and the voice leading that's used here is pretty effective. But I also agree with the comments of the judges: a bit too repetitive, there's really only one musical idea here that's looped about 3 or 4 times. the mixing needs work- the drums are perhaps too loud, and the whole mix sounds like either the mids or highs are up a little too much, resulting in a generally abrasive sound. I'd stick with it though- this sounds like you've got some real talent and just need some more practice. But for now, NO
  23. Game: Ecco 2: The Tides of Time (Sega CD) Title: Drift Mixer: SuperGreenX Original composer: Spencer Nilsen URL: Interesting note (sorta): The various sea creature noises you hear in this aren't dolphins. Dolphins make annoying chattering and clicking sounds, and that didn't fit well in this song. The stuff in my mix is mostly samples of a bunch of different types of whales. No dolphins. Thanks! - Danny SuperGreenX
  24. hehe- this is pretty cool. An empty, yet effective arrangement with some really unique ideas. Nice fresh sound. Good work. YES
