  1. Now this is what I've been waiting for!

    Few questions:

-Do you have a deadline for the first WIP already?

-And what musical style are you looking for this project?

-Is there any other specific restrictions/conditions?

I'd like to claim Area 8 if possible. ;-)

    - Still havent thought on deadlines. But if things freeze way too much i'll put them.

-Anything you want. What i want is it to be quality music, so you'll have to put some real effort in whatever you do. Ah, yeah, preferably something GROOOVY *earthworm jim face*

    -None.. yet. :-P .

I'll sign you for Area 8.

    LOL

AF is gonna turn this into Might of Baron part 2:

"a big militaristic thing with guitars and orchestra"

    LOL (again)

  2. john - how about me, you and level 99 do the opening - a big militaristic thing with guitars and orchestra - we'll figure out the arrangement and get you to put some orchestral sex down and we'll be gold and have a fantastic way to open the album

Sounds awesome!. I'll check the track as a collab. BTW, do you have any outline/structure for the piece in mind? Hearing the track i'm coming with a couple of ideas, maybe we should discuss this through PM.

  3. wow the file was sorta HUGE.

The tune was cool. Good work. I like the arrangement, and the idea is pretty cool. However, there's one thing which keeps this away from being an OCRemix : The samples and the production. The brasses are kinda OK (although ,you should work with dynamics and vibratos), but the drums, bass, ukelele-sorta-thing and piano sound like midis (good midis.. but still, midis).

From what i read, you use Fruity Loops (or FL studio), and your computer has 1 Gb Ram. Well, I work with the same program, and the same Ram. if it helps, there are many plugins which might help you : EWQL Stormdrum and EWQL Hardcore Bass are plugins i use a lot for bass and drums, they work nicely and smooth under FL Studio. Plus, Garritan Personal Orchestra has a really cool piano. You should check them out.

  4. Yeah uhhh... I read page 1 where they were saying this project is impossible and won't be done. Then I noticed there's 61 pages. Sorry for my laziness but I don't feel like reading the next 60 pages. Is this project alive and working or not? I'd appreciate if someone could leave me some kind of portable message in my User CP. ^_^

    Thank you

Well, just take a look at the tracklist. To me, this seems something more "possible" than "impossible". It's a real shame that this project wasn't trusted enough right from the beginning.

  5. Well, one of the tracks on the original post (Dancing Calcobrena by John Revoredo) somehow ended up being a bonus track. So if you take that away, the number of tracks should be correct.

I'm not sure if Avaris had a different mix for "Cecil Becomes a Paladin," but my guess is that it was a remix of "Sorrow and Loss" and was just mis-named in the first post.

Everything seems to be in order, even though the original post is a bit inaccurate.

Yup, my dancing calcobrena mix is a bonus track.

EDIT: man, Vampire Hunter Dan's track is awesome. I mean..really AWESOME. His piece "A Saviour Ascends" stands out. And.. counting Pot Hocket's rendition of Love Theme, this album has some awesome stuff going on! I've barely heard 5 random tracks and im really excited. Sounds great.

Awesome work OA and everyone who participated in this!

  6. I like it, sounds very cool. Okay, to me this sounds finished and pretty alright, but if you want some more stuff to improve... there you go

The lead melody is a little too loud. (at least it shocked me a bit when i heard it on 0:15)

On 1:50, you should change the lead instrument, at least during the variation. The song has the same instruments and the same lead, a instrument variation would be cool.

The bass is still missing!! (in case you've put one, turn its volume up)

    other than that, awesome work.

  7. Well, I simply copied the list from the FAQ. :P

Thank you for your comments. I will check that remixer out.

Should I perhaps change the Chinese violin altogether? The only reason I used it is due to the lack of a harmonica instrument in Logic Studio. I loved the sound of the instrument, but it's attack (and the echo effects) were very stubborn. I could always lower the velocity of the notes you specified. It means it will be harder to hear those notes (if at all), but at least it won't sound fake.

The chinese violin is allright. I love its sound too. Just be careful on 1:54. What could also work is to put a quick-attack instrument playing the melody in unison (such as a keyboard?)

(some bart klepka http://www.ocremix.org/artist/4366/bart-klepka He has more stuff somewhere)

  8. Sounds great. The drumkit is pretty realistic!. Great work!. The arrangement is pretty nice, good fingering and technique. There are no flaws, or anything particularly bad about the piece that stands up. Good work.

Talking about instrumentation : is there a bass? (Maybe you should try to amplify it in case there's a bassline). The bass helps a lot in defining the beat section.

It's very likely that you might have to work a bit on the production. High freqs seem to be a bit loud. Also, a dinamics processor might help to provide "strength" to the drums. In case you don't know what that is, i can help out.

    Keep on it!

  9. whoa, what a huge checklist of possible mistakes. Fortunately, I've found none of those here. Pretty good piece. Overall, the composition and the arrangement is pretty good, i like the instruments, and the production you've put into it. The piece is a bit far from the original. Doesn't sound exactly like it: in fact, it does sound BETTER, while staying close to the source (in the overall feeling), it has a pretty different arrangement. Somehow this reminds me of Bart Kepka's music (Another OCremixer, I highly encourage you to check his music)

One thing: The sampled-chinese-violin, on 1:54 sounds fake. Try not to put so many notes together!. Remember you're using samplers, not real instruments.

Other than that, bravo. Good work, man.
