Rozovian Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Sounds like a midi rip with added drums. You need to work more on giving it depth and direction, and making it your own take on it. Listen to this version from way back to hear what can be done while still being quite conservative in terms of arrangement. Listen and learn from other remixes. Welcome to ocr! For a first try, this ain't so bad. I've heard worse. Quote
HoboKa Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 He doesn't lie...my first few nub songs caused ppl to convulse on the dance floor...and not in a good way. So don't feel bad, nice first attempt dude. Er and some still do... Quote
Jenny Tull Posted January 24, 2008 Author Posted January 24, 2008 thanks :} your reply is definitely honest; I was seeking a bit of direction/advice from people who have been doing this a long time because I'm really having fun with it and I want to learn. Quote
Jenny Tull Posted January 24, 2008 Author Posted January 24, 2008 Thanks. At least I'm getting "nice first attempt" feedback - I was terrified people would say something along the lines of "give up now" haha. :} Quote

Robotaki Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 LOL BGC gives that comment to quite a few. anyways, yeah, this is definitely a good starting place. I was midi rippin like hell because the music just wasn't there in my head. one way that I often start up a remix is just to lay down a simple bassline that matches that of the piece you are remixing, then applying a new melody over top. (and the vice-versa works also, original melody -> new bassline, you get a lot of great results this way ^-^) Quote
