Soma
I'm on Windows Vista (64 bit) and I need to find some software that allows me to convert MKV to Avi's that is free or easily attainable. I've tried googling and nothing seems to work for free. It's either spyware/virus, only converts half the file, or implements a watermark or something silly. I'm trying to burn a few movies for a friend who needs to watch them for film school. They're mostly already in AVI format and I've found a program to burn them from Avi's but it only has a limited number of uses. Does anyone know of any DVD burning software that's compatible with 64 bit Vista? Help is much appreciated!
Dafydd
MediaCoder handles a lot of formats but not mkv. I wish I could help you.

SoulinEther
I'd offer WinFF for transcoding... someone claims it can be run in Vista 64-bit if you run it in compatibility mode for 32-bit (never used 64-bit Vista so I cannot affirm that claim). It's based off FFMPEG which tends to be my favorite converter of all time... And you can just compile it in 64 bit if it doesnt work out, hehe.
