Hy Bound
Alright, so I've been wanting to reproduce this sound for a while, but every time I try it doesn't work or sound remotely the same. It sounds like a bass drum or some similar sound repeated in like 1/96th repetitions, but every time i try and reproduce that in my samplers it won't sit the same in the mix and it isn't in any key. a couple songs with the same sound as im talking about are: https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/152590/Sex%20Bomb%20feat.%20Brody%20Dalle%20%28Adam%20Freeland%20Remixes%29 (Sex Bomb (Adam Freeland Mix)) https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/76476/Play%20It%20Loud%20/%20Fundamental (Play it Loud - Far Too Loud) https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/159534/Ghetto%20Bass (Cheap and Chearful on the second page) Anyone know of a way to recreate that or a synth that specializes in that sound? analoq
I don't think it is granular synthesis. Try taking any subtractive synth and patch a sawtooth or pulse wave thru a high resonance lowpass filter, the key follow on the filter should be at 100%. Then add a bit reduction effect, reduce to 1 or 2 bits. You'll need to adjust the cutoff point so that it's ringing on one of the harmonics and play with the preamp on the bit reduction to get most of the sound "pushed" thru the 1 or 2 bits. I can give more detail if necessary, cheers.
PrototypeRaptor
I find the easiest way to get that "electro bass" sound is to use heavy, insane tape distortion. Use something like 3-4 saw waves, detune 'em slightly, then run them through either voxengo's boogex or psp's mixsaturator 2. And don't forget to sidechain EVERYTHING
analoq
Distortion works too. "heavy, insane" distortion has the same effect as bit reduction: they both make the bits more uniform. Reduction to 1-2 bits is more understandable than "heavy, insane" so I went with that. However I don't think some unison saws will do the trick without the filter, the ringing harmonic is what creates the "granular" effect. Meteo Xavier
On z3ta, I produce a similar sound with 303 and Reso Phase Bass.
Hy Bound
That seems to be doing the trick, i'll have to work with it a bit more, but i think its doing what i was thinking. Thanks guys!
