The album consists of 33 arrangements of composer Yasunori Mitsuda's original score to the 1998 Square Enix game Xenogears. The album is available for free download at http://xenogears.ocremix.org. Humans + Gears is not affiliated with or endorsed by Square Enix. Over 30 artists participated in honoring Mitsuda in this uniquely-themed project which consists of nearly two and a half hours of music. The two-disc project represents the duality of Xenogears' world with "Humans" and "Gears." The first disc features songs with a focus on natural elements and a "Human" touch, while the second disc is dark in tone and electronic in texture, symbolising the fear and destruction of "Gears." Artists were given complete creative freedom to express and reimagine the game in a new sonic format. Shaun Wallace, director and lead producer of the project, states, "With impeccable work ethic and a sense for melody and texture, Mitsuda created one of the most emotional soundtracks of all time. We hope the listeners relive part of the amazing story and music that is Xenogears through this album. Thank you to all of the artists for their hard work and relentless dedication towards completion of this wonderful project."
