Help. Red Alert 1 on Windows 7?

So I just got a laptop because I'm going away for a graduate program. I looked and just happened to find the original red alert CDs in my house. I tried to install it for old times sake, but it's not working. Also, I google searched many sites for instructions but I'm not very proficient in patches/updates/cracks/hacks/whatever. Besides, I get a permission error when trying to unzip the download folder which is impossible because not only am I the user administrator, but I also tweeked with the security settings on it to allow me to to it.

Here's what happens.

I click on my disk drive and start it up. I click the install button and it comes up with "Unsupported 16-bit Application"

"The program or feature "\??\D:\setup95\SETUP.EXE" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit windows compatible version is available."

Does anyone want to help me out with this?

You can always rely on Coop for all of your computer problems.

But your thread discusses for vista and XP. Will it work on 7 as well?

W7 is essentially Vista+. If it works on Vista and not on W7, I'd be flabbergasted.

Dosbox works just fine in 7, you'll be good to go once you've got it set up!

God I love Dosbox, sometimes I'll launch it just to look around my classics collection and change directories for pure nostalgia.

Right now I'm following this google instruction, and I can't find the XP_patch that it wants me to copy.

Got the game working. Took long enough. The colors in the main menu and the FMV's are terrible but ingame it's passable. It's really something to see how far graphics have improved since then.
