Remix Title: "Let There Be Light"

Songs Remixed:

Dr. Light (Mega Man X)

Dr. Light (Mega Man X2)

Get A Weapon (Mega Man X)

This is a medley that I did for the Mega Man X remix project Maverick Rising. Ever since I first heard the Dr. Light theme from X2 I said to myself "I want to use that riff". It was just so good but so short. Now I've gotten my chance and this is the result. Enjoy!

Not easy themes to work with. Super short, super repetitive. Let's see what you've done.

Some interesting ideas here. You establish each theme, and then you let instruments get their soloing in. Easily the best arranged section is the MMX2 capsule theme, I liked a lot of what you did there. The other two themes feel a bit added on, however. They aren't developed nearly as well as the MMX2 theme, mostly they are just establishing the theme and then soloing over it. I feel like you are going more for the other two themes to be something of a cameo rather than a real part of the track, which is fine, but they aren't working very well as they are now. All of the transitions are pretty weak, especially the 1:43 transition.

The guitar sounds pretty thin, especially in the higher range (the opening really exposes it), and it doesn't feel very supported at times. It feels better in the lower range, so look for ways to beef it up a little when it's up there. Drum sequencing is a little repetitious at times, and the kick drum needs more presence. The synth solo at 1:06 is covered up quite a bit, it needs to come out more.

You really took on a challenge with these themes, and I like a lot of what you are doing with the MMX2 theme, but there's quite a bit that needs to be addressed here.

Samplewise, the lead guitar does feel pretty weak and sits somewhere in the uncanny valley. I also think the kick could use a touch more beater to cut through, especially with some of those nice double bass flourishes. The snare was nice and punchy, and the balance of the track was pretty solid, as well.

The drums could definitely use some more exciting fills, but I think the patterns worked. Mixing up the snare from the 2 and 4 a little more would be cool. The tom breakdown was a good changeup, and though there is a kernel of truth to Deia's assessment that themes are established and then solos are added, there are some really nice arrangement ideas and linking of themes.

My main concern is that lead guitar sample. It's well sequenced, but the instrument itself is just so nuanced, that it is sticking out. If you'd like, I'd be happy to record the lead for you. Just let me know.

Other than that, some 'it'd be nice' would be a little more telegraphed transition to the tom fill section, and a little more bite to the kick.

No, please resubmit
