In November 2010, I asked NintenJoe if he was ready to make an improved version of this track, as we collabed on several tracks. He accepted and it finally ended in a symphonic metal medley and got accepted on the project! halc Posted April 23, 2011 Share Posted April 23, 2011 I was cool with the arrangement on this, though everything was treated fairly conservatively with some general expansion/nooding on top. most of the transitions worked pretty well regardless of all the different sources at play, save for 3:48, which suffered because of how muddy that buildup was. the whole mix was pretty muddy but the busy sections in particular (parts around 3:40 and 4:45 for instance) were just way too washed out in reverb. I can appreciate the ambitious approach to the arrangement, but it'll probably take a good deal of EQ and tweaking your sounds/effects to get everything to sit right. DragonAvenger Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share Posted April 23, 2011 Agreed fully that the production is the main deal holding this back, although I've got some arrangement qualms. Right now all of the instruments don't feel very clear, and the mix isn't balanced overall as well. Honestly I think this needs a pretty big overhaul in the production end. Arrangement has it's personalizations, although it remains conservative. As Drew mentioned, the transitions are pretty fluid overall, no qualms with that. I think this could be trimmed down: I'm hearing a lot of one source played through 2-3-more times in a row before it moves to the next source, and there doesn't seem to be many changes between the replays. Not feeling the guitar solo at all at 4:27, felt like there were some note choices that weren't the greatest, and it would be great if you could look at that more closely. OceansAndrew Posted April 25, 2011 Share Posted April 25, 2011 Overall I am pretty impressed with the ambition here, but the guitars and drums are way too reverbed - generally the most effective rock + orchestra tracks are mixed with the rock band up front, and the orchestra and such behind them. Some of the guitar rhythm playing was pretty off the beat as well, especially during the 16th note chugs; it sounds like you have the chops to play this kindof stuff, so redoing the part until it's right is the best plan. This really has promise as an arrangement, but the production needs to click together for it to really work. I'd love to hear this revised!
