mickomoo
There are a few pieces I've written which prominently feature a piano: http://tindeck.com/listen/ureu But I was wondering, how to I make the mix of the piano sound grander, and smoother. Particularly like in this song. Or basically, how do most people make vst pianos sound better...
Rozovian
Can't help you with the mix, at least not atm, but using the sustain cc helps a lot. Using a wider range of dynamics should help, too, but it completely depends on what you've written.
Archangel
I'm not sure which VST you're using. A cheaper VST will be a lot harder to manipulate and won't sound as realistic. However, there are some tricks I can tell you about. First, like Rozo said, if there's a sustain setting in your VST plugin, use it. Second, use more reverb and increase the room size. Be careful not to make it too muddy, though! Third, use more bass notes if you want to achieve a grander sound. And HOLD them for as long as you can. Again, you have to be careful not to make everything muddy. Your VST sounds fine, though. Try adjusting the reverb settings. Good luck!
