DragonAvenger
Game: Kirby's Epic Yarn Platform: Wii Name of original composition: Frosty Wheel Composer(s): Tomoya Tomita, Jun Ishikawa, Hirokazu Ando All three composers are credited for the game's soundtrack. I'm not sure which one composed this particular piece. Name of my arrangement: Tropical Wheel My email and website: jabackf@yahoo.com http://jonahsmusic.leadhoster.com Link to my remix: Alternative remix link on Newgrounds: Youtube link to the original song: My Comments: This is my second video game remix. It has a lot in common with my first submission, Dark Shores of Hyrule. However, Dark Shores was far from a perfect mix. It had quite a few problems. It just barely made it by the judges panel. I'm hoping my second submission will do a little better. Not really sure what made me choose Frosty Wheel as my source material. I've not had a chance to actually play Epic Yarn yet but I do own the soundtrack and I absolutely love it. Sure it may be over the top cute and cuddly, but don't let that fool you. There's some serious soundtrack writing skill on this thing. The original track is a short and simple piano piece. My remix takes it in a bit of a different direction, but I think it still maintains the cute and cuddly atmosphere of the original. I have to give thanks to the people on the OCremix forums as well as the VGmusic forums for their valuable feedback on this piece. They're suggestions helped shape and improve the final version of Tropical Wheel.
Palpable
I'm a huge fan of this soundtrack too, and I'm happy to see remixes of it. This is a really nice song but I think it goes a little off the rails. Apart from the A-section, which plays it totally straight, the rest is original, sometimes with the chords from the original (but often not even that). Could see people passing it for that reason, but I thought it was too liberal. I needed to see more references to the original melody, something more obvious. The song is super relaxing and well played, and I'll be holding on to this one. It's also a big step up from your last submission, production-wise. Unfortunately, I can't give it the YES. OceansAndrew
I don't like to, but I need to echo Vinnie here, as I think this is really well performed and arranged, but it's is a very nice cover sandwiched with original sections. I'd feel a lot better if the source was slightly more personalized when you played through, OR the original sections would have more distinct references to the source. I really think this would be a fantastic addition to the site, so I encourage you to adjust it slightly and resubmit it. halc
real nice. the mixing felt a little thin/reserved, but very pleasing to listen to, overall. arrangement-wise, I gotta agree with my fellow j's. there should be more interplay between original and source, whereas this jumps back and forth from straight up source to all original writing. digging it a lot regardless, but I've gotta request a resubmit here.
