Cash Posted March 10, 2012 Share Posted March 10, 2012 My second WIP remix, the Wind Scene or 600AD from Chrono Trigger. I made the synths from scratch, though I did have help from a tutorial making the lead. I used FL Studio 10, the synths were made in Sytrus. I spent the day working on the drums, so hopefully they fit. As always, all feedback is appreciated, especially critiques. I hope you enjoy it! EDIT: Popular source, I know. The drums are groovier than your other remix, but the style doesn't really match yet, the pattern is way too busy up until :46, especially the kick. Try out some different patterns, experiment. Monobrow Posted March 10, 2012 Share Posted March 10, 2012 Well, that was interesting. Cute synth I think the weird time sigs (with the melody) don't really work. The drums are playing 4/4, but the melody isn't syncing up w/ it. There are points where they sound like they could work, but some notes just don't hold long enough. For example, I get into your groove, then you don't hold the note at :16/:17. I think if you held it 2-4 beats longer, it'd help. In other words, I think it's not so much about the time signatures, but which notes you are emphasizing that takes away from this. I'd approach it with a more candid thought-process. Really pay attention to where your drums/melody/emphasis (how they affect each other) on rhythm should be. Even with non-orthodox approaches, you can feel out more appropriate accents etc, on the beat. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Cash Posted March 10, 2012 Author Share Posted March 10, 2012 Yeah, the timing was basically changing the lengths of the notes to fit the groove, if that's the right word. Also, the bpm in my mix is 130, and I think the source is less, I could be wrong though. I'll definitely work on syncing up the melody with the drums. Thanks for the feedback Monobrow!
