Ninja Gaiden II (Nes)

I'm A Ninja Bitch

Ninja Gaiden II 2-2

Original

This has been my favorite NG Song for the longest time, but NOONE covered it, until I found SuperGuitarBros. Within their medley

I heard something very familiar, but, in a slower more melodic tone, and THERE IT WAS ZAW! Enjoy.

The groove that starts this at 0:33 is pretty fantastic, and is a great concept to work with, but there are a lot of factors that are holding this back overall. The first being that the mix is entirely too repetitive. It's a cool groove, but it gets run to the ground pretty quickly without any change-ups in terms of energy, instrumentation, and volume. A new section or original writing added in would help give this more.

The sounds overall aren't bad, the sequencing overall felt a bit stiff and mechanical. It's especially apparent in the flute. Some humanization would help this, by changing the velocities on attacks. There's also a good deal of reverb on this, and it could probably be brought down a tad.

The last issue I have with the mix is some confusion as to who made it. Did you take a part of a medley the SGB's did and expand on it? If so, unless they've given permission, we can't consider accepting a mix on the behalf of others. As it is this isn't there yet, but it's something to bring up regardless. Some clarification is needed here.

I think there are some really nice elements to this, but the sequenced parts are feeling tacked on, sound-wise, with the soundscapes not really matching. The guitars have a nice room sound, but the rest is very dry.

Overall the ideas are good, but it's very repetitive and get's old after the Nth repetition. THere are some arrangement builds that work pretty well, but it needs to do a little bit more.

Since you used a sizable sample of the Super Guitar Bros medley, let me reiterate that we wouldn't accept this unless you had their permission. That said, I think this had enough issues that it doesn't meet our standards anyway. The overall arrangement felt repetitive and the sequencing was mechanical. The sampled guitars sounded too different from the drier, sequenced instruments, especially the drums. I think this has a good start of an idea, but the writing and production need a lot of work.
