Can't get the brass parts right

Recommended Posts

So I usually write orchestral music, and I'm usually happy with the results, but whenever I try to give a part of the songs that powerful brass feeling it always ends up sounding like a bad march.

Also I'm a bit uncertain of how to write percussions.

If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great:)

Sounds like you don't understand voice leading or part-writing or rhythm.

Of course, if you posted an example, I would be able to help you more specifically rather than just assume a broad spectrum of what you can't do and try to address a bunch of assumptions.

So post an example.

One crit if i may.

That section at 1:31, strings are never never going to be playing right on top of the beat with the pianist. Unquantize that asap. Actually that could probably be said about the whole thing.

As far as the brass goes the sequencing needs to be alot more dynamic. Incorporate some swells and blast a few accents and it will be the most exciting part of what you have. Think about the breath of a brass player, the strain on their faces as they play your part, and i think you'll have it.

On a side note this really reminds me of Iron Storm on the Saturn.
