Yami Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Well normally I don't post WIPs which are that "new" (I did this in about 3 hours, and normally I'm not that confident), but yesterday I experimented a bit, and this came from it, yes it's short, yes it still needs work, but I'd like to know what you think of the basic concept. https://soundcloud.com/yaminokeshin/blue-flames-wip-v1 Quote
timaeus222 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Perspective: You have 80's-esque synths plus some acoustic drums. Sounds to me like an 80's approach could be interesting. Quote
Hangman Delta Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I gotta say, I definitely like this a lot. The synth is a great take on this tune. It sounds sort of like an old sci-fi film, almost with a sort of mass effect-esque vibe. Quote
Yami Posted May 18, 2014 Author Posted May 18, 2014 Ok, yesterday I expanded it a bit, and did a bit mixing work https://soundcloud.com/yaminokeshin/blue-flames-wip-v2 Quote
jordanrooben Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I think you've got a good concept here. I like the drums and synth lead you used, and I agree with the other posters that there's potential for an 80's style piece here. For me, I think your mixing is a bit flat though. I can see a pretty great soundscape being here, but right now, it seems too simplistic. The arrangement is also a bit too basic. Except for the intro and outro, everything is at more or less the same intensity level. It might help to try experimenting with solos or bridge sections. Quote
timaeus222 Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 For me, the soundscape sounds basic/vanilla. I don't hear much expression-controller action going on. Quote
Yami Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 Thanks for the feedback For me, the soundscape sounds basic/vanilla. I don't hear much expression-controller action going on. Yeah, I mostly do automation work at a later stage (except when I need it earlier, for listening reasons) @jordan: Yeah, the arrangement. That's the thing I always have problems with, somehow I'm blocked when I want to write more parts, somehow I never get something I'm satisfied with. I often get to the point where I get a serious writer's block Quote
