fredrikd
Hey! Just for fun, I took a shot at making a few tunes I believe would fit the old arcade racers from the 80's and 90's. I tried to recreate the general style of the time, with all its cheesiness and badly sampled instruments. https://soundcloud.com/fredrikdronen Have a listen to "Midnight City Course" and "Cabriolet Cruisin'", and let me know what you think! mystaura
"Midnight City Course" is pretty awesome! Recalls the 16-bit era sound. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the cheesy sampled instruments! "Cabriolet Cruisin'" - nice bassline!
fredrikd
Thanks man! I agree on the samples I don't know if it's the nostalgia or the limitations they set, but working with rudimentary samples is incredibly fun!
Nase
the pitched brass hits are genius. it's quite clean, maybe experiment with dirtying/mashing up the mix a bit and make it sound more like it's coming from an old chip. that's the thing with cheesy samples, as well: they can end up sounding unexpectedly delicious in a dense lo-fi mix where the chip kind of does its magic. nice work, still. cabriolet cruisin is neat! just got to that. cleaner sound works well for me, there.
