Drum triggers/DIY electric drum kit

Has anyone ever tried to make their own electric drum kit? I've been thinking about it for a while, and I ran into this website (http://edrum.info/), and I've decided I'm going to try it.

But for now, I'm trying to just get one single drum trigger to work...and I can't make it. Here's what I've got:

I have a Realfeel pad (the nice one, 12"), a crappy Remo pad (6", ready to turn it into a trigger), I went out and got a piezo at Radioshack (if you're not following me, don't bother :/), some super glue, a hot glue gun, some fiberglass window screen, a computer with Reason, a korg n264 workstation [which isn't going to help me with the sound input :'( ], and...that's it. So what can I do with this to make a drum pad with a working piezo inside of it? I've seen numerous tutorials on the internet, but most of them are incomplete or unclear. Has anyone ever done this before?

I've worked with the PIC controllers before in electronics class. I didn't try and do anything like this though. But maybe I should have...
