In the forums, next to somebody's name there's often a + and a number, accompanied by the name of a video game character. Explanation?

That's a person's post rank.

For example, I have 6000 some posts, so my rank is Big Boss (+6000)

that important for some people, but most of the staff member if you check doesn't have a high post count anyway. Quality over quantity.

Though if you have less than even 100 posts, you're likely to be considered a noob. But yeah, definitely don't post useless stuff like I do or you won't be very popular anyway.
