  1. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/10/guess_what_michael_pachter_isnt_a_fan_of_the_wii_u

So... why is this Pachter guy always forecasting doom for Nintendo?

I can’t think of a third-party publisher that did well on the DS. I mean, Scribblenauts, so there are a handful games and you can count them. Nobody did very well on the DS, and I don’t think anybody’s going to do very well on the Wii U.

Nobody did well on the DS? Does he know something I don't? Last I checked, there were tons of DS games. If they didn't sell well, why did companies continue to make them?

  2. Just to clarify, are you asking about the lag between the action on the tv and the corresponding display on the tablet?

No, I was referring to people saying it's hard to focus on two screens at once.

On your question, most sites I see report that lag isn't an issue at all, but I'm assuming that's in the developer's hands, to a certain extent. If they push the system too hard, then wouldn't the wireless display functionality start to suffer as well?

  3. So for those who have played a Wii U, I have a question. How bad is the disconnect from the tablet screen to the TV? At first, I blew it off as troll bait, but even Extra Credits mentioned it in their latest episode. I'm not sure I understand why there's such a huge difference between this dual screen experience and the experience of playing a DS, but I've never played it.

  4. I haven't heard either way on this, but the greatest thing ever would be if they allowed you to be able to play VC games on the tablet/gamepad. I could see myself doing that even if nobody else was watching the TV. Just out of the convenience. Seems pretty likely, I just haven't heard anyone confirm it.

  5. Just to be clear, I think the Okami controls were implemented fine, I just thought that it took getting used to drawing something in the air without any tactile feedback. I think in the end, it was definitely easier than drawing with analog sticks.

  6. That's where I'm hitting a road block. I reserved a system, just for the peace of mind that I won't have to wait for one on launch day, but I'm having a hard time deciding what game to buy for it (other than the pack in, of course.) I'm not really excited for Lego games, the latest 2D Mario platformers have kind of bored me, ZombiiU looks like fun, but it's hard for me to justify a $50 game purchase anymore that isn't a Nintendo franchise.

  7. Haha, Shenmue III.

I feel like this style of gaming has already been tried with Crystal Chronicles...maybe they'll figure out how to do more with it this time around.

The main problem with CC was the lack of depth masked with repetitive level design, and the fact that it required too much extra hardware. Not really a problem for the Wii U. I see where you're going with this though. I think the main hurdle making Wii U games will be for developers is deciding how to implement multiplayer games. Do they to a 1 tablet, 4 controllers game and make it harder to port? Do they do just an all pro controller game and not really make use of the tablet? Do they also have to make an engaging single player game? Do they have to make it work with both the tablet and pro controller?

I can see in some instances, these can be viewed as hurdles rather than options. I guess most big devs are gonna just stick with whatever will give them the largest audience.

  8. Yup. Definitely getting the Premium package. I wasn't able to watch the video, and Nintendo's site keeps trying to show me the ustream or something. I didn't see anywhere that the Premium package includes Nintendoland. Any link that says so?

  9. Yeah, I played with an XL version last night at Target and now I really want one. Really want to transfer over my ambassador games and everything though, so I'm not sure if I can trade in at the same time. My local GS people told me (before it came out, however) that I'd have to pay full price for the XL, transfer everything at home, and then come trade in the original 3DS (which as I understand it, won't be able to let me take advantage of any special offers). Anyone have any more info on that?

  10. I don't really have time to read the entire thread here, but have you guys ever considered a community-based acceptance process? If, at the very least, as a preliminary submission requirement, then if it passes that, the judges will give it a "YES" or "NO". It might help with weeding out the large amount of submissions that just don't make the cut.
