  1. LOL WHY IS THER A SYSTM OF A DOWWN SONG ON OCREEMICKS YOUR AL FAGS AFK

Okay, not really. Fact is, I get a good laugh out of this song whenever I hear it. It's amazing because this song has probably been heard by just as many people as a SOAD song has. I don't know a single young person (15-30) that hasn't heard this song. Either way, it was a lot of fun when I first heard it way back when and it's still fun now.

  2. NECRO!

You know, it's a song like this that reminds me why I love OCRemix so much. I trust the judges to weed out the crap that comes in and that they'd never post an unworthy mix. With that side, the other reason that goes hand in hand with it is when you start looking through songs posted a couple years back, the ones from 2002-2003 (just barely before I started not making my presence felt), you find these mixes that are just so powerful and awesome. You smack yourself in the head and go, "Man, why didn't I find this sooner?!"

This song definitely brought that exact reaction out of me this morning. I was jamming out to The Ballad of Sir Kibbles and I thought to myself, "I wonder if Suzumebachi has any other badass mixes?" So I checked it out and saw he had a Xenogears mix (which means it is a required listen) and assumed the dropped jaw position.

I love this mix. It hits all the right notes on my musical palette. The mood, the instruments just convey everything perfectly. Even if everyone out there says it's just a "good" mix and not great, I have the pleasure of feeling every emotion this mix was supposed to invoke in the listener.

I do have one minor gripe, though. The percussion was a little loud to me. It was as if it were saying, "Hey, look, I'm percussion! Pay attention to me!" but the percussion wasn't exactly what was for dinner here.

    Keep up the awesome, Bachi.

  3. I said it in Rare Mineral Addict and I'll say it here, Shna, I heart this mix.

It's actually kind of funny because I owned Solstice for the longest time. EVERY time I decided to play it, I'd pop it in and twenty minutes later I'd slam the controller down, yank the game out and scream "FUCK THIS GAME!"

However, as much as I hated the game, the music would stick in my head for hours. I love it. It sounds so different from all the other NES music out there. In fact, now that I have it, I wonder why it took so long for a remix from Solstice to come out. I'm glad there finally is one and ten times gladder that it's from Shna. Ace.

  4. It took multiple listens to decide if I liked this one or not. There was this part of me that said, "Hey man, this guitar is totally rubbing you on the naughty parts. You like that, don't you?" Then there was this other part of me that said, "But these drums are totally poking around in the REALLY naughty parts and you DON'T like that, do you?"

After weighing the pros and cons, I decided that the mix is good. The drums turn me off but if I concentrate on ignoring them, the mix is pretty damn good and I want to listen to it more down the road.

  5. You have no idea how badly I'm kicking myself. I glanced for new songs on the site yesterday, caught a glance and said, "Hmm, SoM mix by Harmony, eh? Looks promising but probably not something that needs an urgent listen."

I want to slap my brain around, now. If I hadn't read the write-up by djp I would have made the exact same comparison to Pillar of Salt, which is easily in my top three, if not number one, on my list of favorite mixes. This mix absolutely takes me to another world and even makes my eyes water a little when I'm REALLY listening.

I'd totally want to see this mix on the upcoming World of Mana cinematic intro or something like that. I have a feeling it'd be wildly popular with everybody to ever even touch the game.

  6. I'm late...and not on commenting on this mix, I mean I'm late. Daniel, I'm having your children. This will be like the third or fourth time I've had a remixer's children but I feel it is necessary seeing as they release these badass songs I can't stop listening to. Wait...I'm a male. 8O I guess I've got my Schwarzenegger going.

I love the mix, as per usual with Mr. Baranowsky. I guess it's about right that all my favorite mixes are usually by the judges. Mostly because they know what the hell they're talking about, hence the reason why they're judges to begin with.

Great mood setter and definitely a frightener. Let's put it this way. I have a playlist that I keep under fifty songs at all times from OCRemix. I always...ALWAYS...listen to this playlist as I fall asleep seeing as the computer is right next to my bed. I tried putting this track into the playlist and while I was lying there, this remix came on. I immediately realized what was happening and got up, took the song off the playlist and put on Shnab's "Anachronism" (cheap plug) and went back to bed. There was no sleeping to that shit. lol

  7. Hm, well, it's a good mix. I definitely love the piano intro. The judges complained about the piano being mechanical but I don't have any gripes with it. It brought back a fuzzy warm feeling of nostalgia for me and led into the beat that picked things up considerably. Some of the synths were rubbing my ears the wrong way just a tad bit but nothing to make me grind my teeth. Personal preference there.

The only thing I really think keeps this from going into my playlist is the fact that I don't think there's enough going on. There are a lot of sections where it feels a little too empty for me, instrument-wise. While I couldn't make any suggestions for what you could have added, something a little extra to keep my attention would have been nice.

It was worth the download though and it makes me want to play Mega Man again. :) Keep up the good work.

  8. Argh...okay, so I half-heartedly bashed this song before. I remembered I loved the last minute and a half or so and out of curiousity, I gave the song another chance. Maybe I was in a bad mood that day or something. Must've been because suddenly I found my head bobbing a little bit during the whole thing. While I still echo some of my original sentiments about the vocals needing some work, they're actually not bad. I've heard much worse. If anything, you sound kind of like I do when I try to sing some time early in the day after I've woken up. I sing ten times better after about half the day is over because my vocal cords are properly warmed up.

I wasn't paying attention to the drums before but man, they do sound like ass. lol

  9. Wow, Shnab, I heart you. I really do. Every mix you make, I just love unconditionally. This song is so quirky, I love it. This mix reminds me of one of my favorite games for the SNES, Big Sky Troopers. I want to call it goofy but at the same time, you could take it seriously. It's confusing.

...now I wonder what a Big Sky Troopers mix would sound like after it was passed through the Shnab Machine.

  10. Nope, sorry, the first version is better. This is a lot like when Silent went back to redo In the Atrium. While you think you're making it better, you're taking away the charm that mix had to begin with. The second version sounds too dark and at times, there isn't a lot going on. There's some volume problems, the vocals being too quiet while the drums are overly loud in others. Personally, I liked the bridge better when there were lyrics. The guitar chugging isn't that great sounding, either. If anything, I want to say this sounds almost like a sellout version, however detrimental that may be.

...that sound like Windows commited an error stuck out like a sore thumb. In fact, I thought my computer was actually going to crash.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but on the second go-around of the chorus, I'm hearing a piano. Am I right on that? I like that.

I love the original version, however. Enthusiastic, empowering, very rockin'. There are some elements that you could take from this newer version to combine with the old one to make an all-around awesome, straight up badass mix. I like the ending on the new one better and if I'm right with the piano being in the chorus, I'd say add those to the original and make sure the production is tight on all ends and you'd have quite possibly one of the greatest, if not the greatest remix ever.

  11. I'm guessing I'll be in the minority on this one. This mix ain't doing anything for me. I'm of the opinion that the vocals suck, there's nothing interesting about them. They give me a sort of Beach Boys feel only it's like Dhsu said, it's like he only used the lower half of his range. In that regard, I find the vocs bland and boring.

Whenever there wasn't singing, I was enjoying the mix some because it means something else had to carry the song, meaning the instruments and the arrangement that wasn't just some cookie cutter punk/pop sounding string work on the guitars and drums. Basically, the solo section was the only thing I enjoyed at all. The "why try" probably would have been better if he would have changed his pitch up or something but as is, I didn't really care.

So now I'm on the outside looking in.

    ...it's cold out here.

  12. 8O

...I don't know what to say. I listened to this and it was like a five minute long tingly feeling in my spine. Very atmospheric. I love it.

Although I do have to say that at points, I felt it was too minimal. There wasn't enough going on to keep my attention. On the other hand, it may have served to put emphasis on the parts that DID have stuff going on in effect making them sound that much more awesome. Either way, you still have a great mix here and I heart you for making it.

  13. I'm digging this. I've always been a sucker for solo piano mixes and this one is no different from the others as it's grabbing me by the throat and pulling me into it. It's a little simplistic, however, for my taste and there wasn't enough going on at certain parts to keep my full attention but just when I started to slip away, you'd get things going again. So as a whole, it worked out. :)

  14. Yeah, the first minute and a half or so disappointed me. It was basically like hearing the track from the game itself if it had been released for playstation instead. It was when it shifted into this new section that I stopped what I was doing and started listening seriously. I was ready to crap myself at how quickly it went from "okay cover" to "holy shit, this is awesome."

Really, after listening to it a couple times, I actually kind of prefer the cover sounding part to be there at the beginning. It's like he's saying, "Hey, this is what you know. Now here's what I'm going to do with it to make it cooler." And it totally works for me.

  15. Man, you have no idea how happy I am to see this one make it to OCR. I downloaded this one from VGMix, too, about a month or two ago. Can't quite remember. Goat should know that I NEVER visit VGMix but I did in the hopes of finding something of his that wasn't here and I was lucky enough to stumble across this. This one deserves a lot of praise. Whenever I hear an orchestral mix with some awesome guitar work thrown in, it reminds me of the piece at the end of Mr. Holland's Opus. That's a good thing. Excellent job.

  16. I'm torn on this one. On one hand, this takes you into a whole new world. It's the kind of music you can close your eyes and visualize yourself in some kind of dramatic setting of your choice. On the other, it is kind of simple and a little repetitive. Don't get me wrong, I like everything that's there but it sounds like something that could have been presented in a few minutes at the most, rather than four and a half. For something like this, I can see it going six or seven minutes easily and remaining completely enjoyable if more ideas were introduced and implemented well.

God, I freaking love that violin, though.

  17. I'm late in posting anything on this song. I should have the day it was released on the site because it continues to rock my world to this day.

When those drums hit...I start bobbing my head. It makes me want to get out of my seat and mamba (or try to) my ass off. The word I think of when I try to describe this song is "primal" until it starts to get less groovy and softer. I don't have any qualms with this or the ending at all. This conveys a sense of hopelessness for the cause they're fighting for or something similar I can't place my finger on.

Excellent work. You continue to be one of my favorite remixers. :)

  18. ..........

I'm stunned. And I mean that in a bad way.

Man, I hate to be offensive because I love the older version so much and this...I can't think of what to say other than something mean. It's a pile of shit. First off, your voice is much better when it was raw and natural, not effects laden. Not only that but it sounds like the tempo of this was raised and it makes it sound really rushed. The original sounded relaxed, like there wasn't a care in the world any more. Plus certain instruments are way too loud and some way too far in the background, like the guitar right before the vocals start.

Now, as we transition into the soft part, I start to dig it again. It sounds like you're singing from maybe a bathroom or somewhere dark and damp, lonely and the like. Then your voice goes severely off-key several times and I want to shove sharp objects into my ears. However, the revamped ending with just the guitar rubs me the right way and is one of the few good things I like about it.

I don't mean to sound like a complete hardass but I think this is sort of the same deal that was with the remake you did of Tororian Love Song (Over and Under). Your original recordings of both are so many levels above the remakes because they concentrate more on YOU and YOUR playing rather than on trying to be fancier and sounding more like say, a more well-financed effort by a more upscale musician. I think that's your strongest point is your ability to completely expose yourself and come out completely strong. If you were signed onto a label, I think your live show would be so much better than your CD. Get the picture?

    I miss the organ. :(

  19. Ugh...see, I love this so damn much. It's one of those songs that's recorded low enough, however, that if I try to go to sleep with my "Best of OC" playlist (which I would include this song in) that if I turned it up high enough to listen to this song, Cataclysmic Clash or Stained Glass Filth would startle the ever loving hell out of me as I'm about to fall asleep.

Aside from that minor gripe, this mix made me want to cry like a little bitch. Very emotional piece and yet another great solo piano work.
