  1. Whoever drew the new character art for Maxim needs to be shot.

Why did they change him around to look like Squall : (

As I said when I posted it to my facebook, it looks like the character designer was going for Nomura and the environment designer was going for Tales of Symphonia.

Also trailer with gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq4B0_aa8uw via Kotaku. I have no idea how to imbed Youtube vids, sorry.

I have to admit, it actually looks like a lot of fun, especially the new items. Still not sold on the character redesigns, but I can get over that.

  2. There is apparently more than one warp cannon to world 8 for no easily-explorable reason...

I dunno why they even have the warp cannons. It's a neat little throwback, but why would I want to skip ANY level? They've all been awesome so far.

To keep with the trend. Every 2D Mario (except Yoshi's Island) features some way for players to zoom straight to the final world if they want. In SMB, it was 1-1 -> 1-2 -> Warp -> 4-1 -> 4-2 -> Warp -> 8-1 -> 8-2 -> 8-3 -> 8-4. In Mario 3, it was dual-whistles found in World 1 to zoom to World 8. In SMW, it was Star Road, and in NSMBDS there were cannons that could propel you from World 1 to 4 to 8. This is no different.

  3. Co-op is pretty bad, though. I played a bunch with my roommate...well, tried to anyway. Mostly we just ended up getting in each other's way and making the game much more difficult than it had to be.
    Co-op

Found your problem. As Penny Arcade put it, this isn't Co-Op Mode, it's Divorce Mode. Play it like a griefing engine with friends (a la L4D's Versus Mode) to get the most out of it.

  4. "It’s not just a remake, we’re rebuilding the story, the characters, and the world settings (Miyata Masahide)"

This makes me think it'll be more like Lufia II: Alternate Rise of the Sinistrals than a simple remake of the original. A reimagining, if you will - like NSMB was to SMB.

  5. - The main overworld music is the same as the DS one (not exactly, but you know).

    - The battle music against enemies that show up on the map is the same as it was in SMB3 (or wherever that music came from first).

    - I think I remember the castle music being the same as the DS one, I don't remember.

  6. Also, the Coin Battle mode has a version of the 'Classic W1-1' level that has a lot of WTF? moments. The good kind of WTF? moments.

I just bought the game today, but won't be able to play it until I get done with classes tonight. Can someone confirm/deny if the Star Battle mode from NSMBDS is in there, with the wrap-around levels?

  7. The amount of bitching and moaning about serious business stats in a thread dedicated to a fun, "with friends" community server amazes me. Can we just IP ban atmuh from the OCR server itself and be done with this?

Seeing those chat logs being posted again, I'm finally curious enough to ask.

    What is that IRC thing?

Is it like a big chatroom?

Or more of an instant messanger?

And how do I get to it myself?

  8. FF7 is not the most enduring game of all time. Not even close. Claiming it as such shows immense ignorance and invalidates the entire review straight from the beginning.

Revise the cornerstone of your review, or come back when no one's heard of Super Mario Bros.

This is not to say you don't have some insightful points. However, coming here to toot your own horn about your deeply flawed fanboy review is not something I appreciate.

Thank you for more accurately stating what I was trying to say. And yeah, SMB was the first thing that came to mind. They're still making 2D Mario platformers modeled after that first one; that's endurance. Discussing a game on a forum, writing essays to show how obsessed you are with prettyboy Cloud does not make a game "enduring". Hell, there are people out there still talking about Breath of Fire 2.

I'm rather ignoring the rest of the essay, since I only made it through disc 1 of FF7 before I got bored of it, but that one claim annoys the crap out of me regardless.
