  1. Neither are gimmicks 3D is a bit overdone but its a step towards holograms so i'm interested in it. But the mind control aspect is the first phase of a far bigger stage of mental manipulation over computers. And i think you're putting too much a time frame on them already.

Mental manipulation is already being employed sparingly. When someone can adapt a fighting game to match that level of control we're going to see battles most people can barely conceive of. Movies will be forever put to shame when you see Mitsurugi going after Taki with a pair of mental controllers. My money is on the Mental controllers. The old PS2 commercials where they went to the PS10 and full VR arent as farfetched as they were back then now are they?

  2. Single player? 50. It was a hell of a crowd. I was putting on a shooting clinic in Area 51 i was going through levels without getting HIT. Best part of all was doing it with dual pistols. It got real wild. When i finally died the entire place cheered because no one else had done it like that.

Two player? 100-150 On two seperate occasions.

Our arcade held an SC2 tournament big one it was real active in its day Arcade's gone but i wont forget that day I tore through the first three rounds with mitsurugi it was ho hum stuff. I made it into the quarters and faced possibly the best ivy player in the State. He was unreal. The settings were best of five and 60 second rounds for the main tournament. He won the first two. I came back and won two straight by invoking his Iaijutsu stance and his special defense in that stance...nearly impossible to pul off with ivy but it worked. Final round we went for broke. He went for ivy's super but missed the grab giving me an opening to launch Mitsurugi's strongest move. After that we shook hands. I lost in the semi's to a Taki moving just a little too fast for me to keep up. But when it was over everyone was talking about ours as the best match of the tournament.

Second incident? 6 months after that SC tournament they got initial d V2 3 months before. Everyone was having a lot of fun. I had gotten a hell of a reputation as an RX-7 player on the downhill. I was taking on all comers that day when a guy decides to step up. I didnt bother to look at who it was cause i was in a zone. Turns out he was running an RX-7 too. He prefered the FC to my FD Spirit-R And boy could he drive it. He beat me twice down Akina I couldnt believe it. Races were settled by mere meters. At this point people were streaming in to get a look at this and the arcade guys put it up on their big screen. Those who could see us did. I decided to change the track up. Wanting to see if he was an Akina specialist so i went for Iro. The toughest track in the game and a personal favorite. I took him in the final section after he took the lead in the middle. He then chose The first track. Wanting to see if i could keep up in speed. Well i was more than happy to oblige taking him out by 50 meters. So then i turn to look at him and say. "Akina One more time." Because at this point i'm in the goddamned zone. And i want to take best three out of five on his best track. He nods and replies "What the Hell." So we fire it up. This time i'm in back like i was the first race. Good god we raced our hearts out. It was perfect from the get go. We left it all on the track. I took it with two turns to go as i got in an opening as he miscalcuated. The entire place went nuts. Mall security was outside wondering what the hell was going on. They were thinking of calling the police it got so wild. After that i called it a day but DAMN That guy could drive.

  3. Kenshin Not 'Samurai X' Kenshin. There is an INSANE difference between the two. CN ran the entire Kenshin series ages ago and it was far better than the Samurai X bullshit they're putting out on hulu.

    Movies i'd recommend

    Iria

    Project A-Ko

    Venus Wars

    Green Legend Ran

    Kashan

Trigun works to a point. Bebop is probably right up your alley.

Bleach is also a fun one. (also LONG)

GITS is a must get. All the movies plus the series. Get solid state society too. Your mind=blown i promise.

Oh i almost forgot. Not marital arts based or any crazy thing like that but InitialD! I promise you you wont be disappointed with that.

  4. If they lowered prices, then the price of a used copy would lower, as well. Customers would still buy it used, but for less money than they'd buy the used copy now.

New guaranteed undamaged game for 50

Used possibly damaged game for 35

    Who would you go with?

New Guaranteed undamaged game for 60+tax

Used possibly damaged game for 35

    What would you go with.

Gamefly is another group that gets hurt by this. I don't use their services but after a good run with netflix i'm giving them consideration.

This hurts the wrong people at the wrong time.

  5. Honestly, I think the online pass makes sense for all the reasons EA gives. Used sales hog their online resources without paying for it. This helps pay for it. I'm OK with that.

However, I'm not a fan of Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network. I think that is a slightly different entity.

A better way to combat used sales would be to lower prices. Offer special editions at lower costs. They dont like used sales. Honestly i can understand that to a point but THIS is not the way to fix that. It will only revive the hatred many players have for EA as a company which honestly they dont need after finally putting a LOT of shit behind them.

  6. and it begins

I was hoping this wouldn't happen...but yeah we're going to see more of this. I hate this, big time. UFC 2010. Given how outspoken Dana White was with the competetor's project and the fact that any UFC star on said product would be dropped from the UFC i now gotta wonder if he might not speak out about this.

Regardless EA+THQ two groups of games i wont be touching for a while. This is a bad idea and not the way to combat used game sales.

  7. They did do this with ME2. It's called the Cerberus Network, and it's for all the free DLC that you get with the game. Buy the game new, you get access to the Cerberus Network for new weapons, quests, etc. Buy the game used, you gotta pay up for a Cerberus Network pass.

Yeah but at least thats extra content. This is just to play online which is where the sports games THRIVE these days.

TOR is an MMO, so I don't even know why you're bringing that up.

Because its EA, they do crazy shit and i'm envisioning the worst case scenario. Because honestly its happened.

So wait until it's economical to buy it or do without. It's the same argument I have against people who try to justify piracy: if you're not willing to pay the asking price, then don't play the game.

Yeah sorry i'm not tryin to make a piracy argument but you smashed the 2nd hand market a market i prefer to make use of to get Good Titles cheaper. Sports games these days are all about online play. Dont believe me? Check out Madden Nation on ESPN some time. I think 60 bucks for a sports title that isnt updated over the years now that the tech is there is far too much. Now given how sports titles fall off when a new game hits this raises the end price 10 dollars. So instead of spending 10 for a used they'll be forced to spend 20 if they want to play online. One of the biggest draws for sports games.

You're flat out wrong. Buy new, you get the pass. Buy used, you pay 10 extra. Nobody's charging you 10 bucks on top of the 60 dollar new-and-shiny retail price.

Yeaaah riiiiight. Its only a matter of time. It really is. Back to your thing about ME2 you only got it free if you managed to get the collectors edition which was about 100 bucks. I'm relatively sure brand new base games had to pay that fee too. EA's at it again and this is bad in general for the gaming industry.

Did you buy those games new or used? Because if you bought them new, you wouldn't have been hit with any extra fees anyway, so it would have been exactly the same. If you bought those games used, then the publisher wouldn't have counted that as a sale anyway, because they didn't make any profit off of your purchase; they wouldn't notice a drop in sales because they don't keep track of used sales anyway.

New. I was really interested in forza 3 and FF13. But then i had the money to get them new at the time.

There are more important things in the world to be scared of than online fees for video games.

Yeah but this website isn't about those things. I stand by my statement. EA will see the cash from this in the used market and will say "Why not other games?" I'm not happy about this situation and you shouldn't be either. I just hope it doesnt spread. This pretty much keeps me out of the sports franchise games. I shouldn't need to be penalized for looking for a deal in this fucking economy which is exactly what this is.

  8. I don't see the big deal. The used game market kills developers and is the lifeblood of shitty retailers like Gamestop. Anything that puts a dent in their business is fine by me.

It's not like you save that much buying recently released used games anyway. You could buy a new game on Amazon for just as much, or even less.

The problem is sport game values drop drastically once a new year hits. And no one here think's EA will keep this to sports games only. What if they do this with ME3? Or they mess with ME2? WCS what if they pull something with TOR?

The used game market is the only way for people who have limited incomes to be able to play some of the better games out there. I'm sorry if that pisses you off but thats the way it is. Most of us dont feel like spending 60 dollars for a game to begin with.

Now it'll be 70 for an EA sports title. I wasnt willing to pay 50 before what makes you think i'd pay 70? I was seriously thinking of getting a Madden this fall. Not going to happen. Not now probably not ever at this point.

This is another trend in general gaming that i'm really afraid of. Activision with SC2's paid maps and its now legendary chaos concerning the latest call of duty are another warning light.

If this kind of fee had been on FF13. I wouldnt have bought. Had it been on Forza 3 i would have kept my money and gone elsewhere. If it spread to every game on consoles i'd pawn my xbox and upgrade my computer and renounce console gaming all together. This aint good for anyone. And the long term implications of something like this should scare people.

  9. Steam is the wave of the future and this may well signify a shift from Console to PC gaming. This really dissapoints me. EA was finally beginning to pick up traction as a gaming company after the huge Bad PR it had this past decade. Now they go and do this...

  10. Well things are beginning to go my way financially. I'm about in position to start putting together a real car.

I'm hoping to create a 'sleeper' Something that looks normal on the outside but has one nasty surprise inside. I might go to full tuner but i'm not certain on that.

What would be a good used car that i could transform into a sleeper. I already have some opinions of my own but i'd like to hear yours Provide links if you could.

  12. 30 as of right now

expect that to be 90-120 before launch. With about half being unlockables.

But as i can not believe they would not involve megaman in some form (be it X or original) my beam team is fully back. While this thread is up what were your favorite groupings?

Mine: Beam team: Iron Man Ryu and Megaman though i swaped mega with warmachine cable and cyclops. The name says it all i think.

You gonna die sucka!: Wolverine Ryu and Sakura Wolverine's barrage comboed with Sakura's best finished by a massive beam. It typically didnt get better than that. It limited unified strikes but i liked chain better in this circumstance anyway

Oldschool Capcom: Ryu Ken Sakura Uppercut city followed by the beam from hell. A real crowd pleaser

Marvel for the god damned stone cold fucking win: Wolverine Ironman Cable

Wolverine i used for the setup. Cable and Ironman for a nasty finish.

  13. Uh, don't?

Seriously, Disney bought Marvel so that they own the properties and make money off of whatever Marvel does, not so that they can dictate every aspect of Marvel's business creatively. Disney doesn't give a shit about this game beyond how much money the licensing deal is making them. Your "worry" is totally unfounded.

The game is called Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Give it a rest.

Hey this is the first big test. If they're gonna leave this alone and they dont screw with marvel storylines then fine. But a lot of people were worried about this deal. I admit i was one of them. And this was with the knowledge that Miramax studios was disney owned.

  14. Disney might have some rights here but capcom has the game itself. And like it or not the other crossover games have been smash successes. If Disney pushes too hard capcom could just tell them to shove it and use a different version. But yeah i'm worried about Disney trying that crap too.

  15. Morrigan vs. Tony Stark LOL

Pretty sure who wins that fight.

When i saw that i thought you meant stark without armor for a sec. When i checked the blueprint. Come on :P its iron man no friggin doubt.

Its looking like my beamteam is back though which is going to rock. (It'd be better if it was X instead of original.)

  16. Depending on your taste in dance there are many of them.

Several of the FF7 border on Rave FF Crystal Rave is a nice one White skys is another.

If your looking for something a bit more formal Valse Aeris is a fast paced more traditional dance.

I'll be honest the other recommendation i have has been driving me nuts as i attempt to figure out where i'd go with it: The Rose General. I can almost see it as it plays but i'm still not quite there.

  17. I don't really understand this reasoning. Is Super Mario Bros. remembered as a subpar game because Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 take more advantage of the NES's graphical capabilities? No, Super Mario Bros. is remembered as a timeless classic. It's the same for me with Final Fantasy 7.

Understandable. But i point out to you they remade it a few times and IMO SMB3 was what SM1 wanted to be but they couldn't figure it out yet. Remakes are not a bad thing when done right.

  18. someone in the commments section said it best:

"I think it's a bad sign for a game company when nostalgia sells more than innovation."

Innovation is selling huge trust me on that.

But FF7 was done at the beginning of the PS console and no one knew what they could do yet. They were only beginning to push the limits. Graphically 8 and 9 were lightyears ahead of seven AND THEY WERE ON THE SAME CONSOLE!

By many of us the fact that FF7 hasn't been redone is a sore spot. Simply because it wasn't given its just due in many eyes.

I think not only would the sales be there but square owes it to itself to truly Put this game out on 360 and PS3 or even PC (i'd die if it came out there my 250 GTS would cry) For the history of the series FF7 should not just be classified as an awesome story with sub par graphics. (SUB PAR FOR THE CONSOLE!) I wouldn't even care if there wasn't any voice acting. But graphically this game deserved far better and deserves it now.

  19. And that's why you have the balls and spinal column of a paramecium! You have no zest for adventure! I am zesting like crazy right now, and I want to share it with ALL the nerd community!

Mainly though, I'm trying to get back at a man named Jubias and I know he'll be there. He stole my tiddlywinks when I was four years old, and now I'm going to cram a pineapple in him until he screams "Brassafrax!"

No, I'm just going to go see some friends there. :)

heh heh heh if i didnt have class tomorrow i'd consider going but i'm perfectly content with picking it up before or after class tomorrow.

  20. Funny how EA in a few years had managed to turn its image around and no longer be the "bad guy game publisher". I guess what it really takes is simply not being on the bottom.

EA's been doing things like expanding its online games business (casual games especially) and taking a chance on some of the more innovative, experimental titles. Also, having a few solid developers (BioWare particularly) and their steady sports games has taken them under the radar compared to Activision.

I still don't touch a vast amount of EA's games but they are beginning to slowly win me over again and Bioware's the reason. EA before they acquired bioware had a history of ruining the outfits they picked up everyone knows the story there. Since they got their hands on bioware however EA hasn't done some of its previously usual stuff. Warhammer online may have cleaned up its act to boot. EA's not just not on the bottom they seem to be making some actual changes over there.

Keep a serious eye on the IW/Activision suit though the results will be very intresting to see.
