  1. the type of videocard you have is more of an influence on that than wattage.

    500w is pushing it.

500 per card? yeah that is. But its not just the card you are powering with that thing. Its the ram its the processor its the fans its anything else you might have in there. 500 watts on an SLI or Crossfire configuration? I DARE you to try that and see what the end result is. Trust me you wont like it an 800 watt supply is the absolute min if you run two cards if you want to run the rest of your system without overclocking. 1000 Watts brings you a cushion that you will need later. Go to the geek squad if you dont believe me. Trust me you will want that extra power in a twin video card configuration. Check out the latest gaming PC's they arent offering less than 1000 watts of power for a reason.

  2. Please tell me your kidding.

For running an SLI or Crossfire config no i am not graphics cards take up a serious amount of power. A 1000 watt power supply gives you a nice cushion for expansion allows access to some overclocking features in certain configurations and overall is a smart choice if running a dual videocard configuration.

  3. Hey fellow gamers. I have a question to ask and here is the reason behind it. My mother has to work in the electronics at Target the day after Thanksgiving and when it comes to games and all that she has no idea. She just buys the games for me and my brother and if she still does not understand what we are talking about then she would take us with and we point at the game or system that we want. So I thought I can get your help on making a list of the games that most people will buy for this holiday season. We can go down a list of systems and the games most likely be bought. So in all truth I need a list for all the games for all the systems that is hot this year.

    PC:

    Orange Box

Crysis: Both versions (vista sales will likely jump)

    Tabula Rasa

    Hellgate: London

    Simcity societies.

Gears of War (now out on PC)

    Supreme Commander Forged Alliance

    Company of Heros Opposing Fronts

    Farcry 2

These are likely the major games Some of them are not out yet and some will not be out before the end of christmas but these are the games everyone will be talking about for the PC no bones about it.

  4. Thanks for the comments everyone! Especially you Harmony, as you don't post a lot :)

Hyperion: I never really think of other remixes as 'competition'. "Ascenion to Cosmo Canyon" is completely different than this. We weren't trying to make a souped-up anime soundtrack-esque cover of the theme at all. I suppose if we were, we very well would pale in comparison to Reuben Kee's take, but we were trying to do something more like the Black Mages. I think multiple remixes of the same theme can co-exist peacefully and be enjoyed in different ways, personally.

They can and they do. I love this piece but when i hear it cant help but draw comparisions. I am not trying to take anything away from yours. I am just trying to explain what i hear. :)

    Oh, there was a contest?

Not so much a contest but a question of what i liked more. This is one of several pieces that had others before it of exceptional quality. Granted the genre type would be different where as this one is high speed rock the other was more instrumental/tribal. But when you get multiple mixes of same tracks you really cant help but draw the comparison. Especially when both come out at such fantastic quality levels. I reiterate my original stance this mix ROCKS.

  5. I have some legit problems with this mix. It is overall insane but the unfortunate problem is what several mixes have had to compete with. When i listen to this mix i have to compare it unfortunately to Ascension to Cosmo Canyon. An utterly epic masterpiece by Reuben Kee conveying the entire story concerning the place into one song. In my eyes Kee wins every time on this one. I think too much emphasis was put on the hyper pace of the mix while ignoring the tribal and peaceful tones that one associates with the source tune.

Now am i saying the song sucks? HELL NO I LOVE IT. The key problem is the same one others in voices had to encounter: Just absolutely incredible competition.

  6. 1) Most nerdy comment ever

    2) Did your hand like the song as well? OHH

    3) This is one of those mixes that can be played for just about any non-gamer and they'll have no idea it came from a video game. So soft, so soothing.... =P

    4) Okay fine, I've made out to video game music too.

While you might of been bashing i am setting up an OCR CD set for entertaining guests this winter as we show off our new house. This is going to be added to that list just the tone i am looking to set with the music. up to 3 CD's and 45 songs.

That being said this is an incredible piece of work i have not heard anything like this in a while. Fishermans Revelation comes close but this is one sweet piece of music. I wish there was another minute or so on it though.

  7. Even with the newer stuff, its pretty hard to get many of the new next-gen games coming out running good.

    My PC has:

    256MB Nvidia 8600GTS

    AMD Athlon 64X2 5000+

    2GB Ram

I just got the Unreal 3 and Call of Duty 4 demos today and I can't get them running at a constant smooth framerate at anything higher than 800x600. I can just imagine how Crysis will run.

My PC can actually run most older next-gen games very well though. Half-life 2, Doom 3, Prey, F.E.A.R., Company of Heros, Call of Duty 2 and Age of Empires III all run great with everything on high settings at 1024x768 resolution and 2x-4x Anti-aliasing. Bioshock runs pretty good too.

So, basically if you want to run Crysis, Unreal 3, and Call of Duty 4 at good settings you better be ready to fork over a lot of money. An 8800GTS and 4GB of ram would probably give you overall good performance. Also, don't worry about the whole DX10 issue. Most games support both DX9 and 10. Even games like Stracraft II and Rage which aren't even coming this year are going to support both.

For the record sites like newegg are incredible for saving money. Also if your mobo supports it and you are confident in it run SLI or crossfire. (crossfire seems to have made an edge though) 4GB of ram is solid stuff if your mobo can handle it.

Crossfire and SLI though can give you the performance of an 8800GTS while saving you about 50-60 dollars in the long term.

Its worth the effort i know that much. I will be running crossfire with a pair of ATI's latest cards. I am running a system nearly identical to what a friend of mine has and he has a 300 FPS rate on some games my cards are not quite as powerful so slightly less frame rate but other than that i am going to have sick performance.

  8. It might just be me, but as Christmas and the holiday game season approaches, I'm feeling way behind on PC computing power when I shouldn't be. I'm currently running a 3 Ghz x86 processor, a 7800 GTX, and 1GB of RAM. Yes, I need a little more RAM, but that's not the issue.

The real question is: How many of you guys are DX10 / x64 capable, and how many of you are going / willing to upgrade if it becomes neccessary?

Crysis, Call of Duty 4, and UT3 all call my name...but if they don't support DX9, I won't be able to play them -- I personally can't afford a new mobo/processor and graphics card with college bills to pay.

Right now a lot of games are going dual DX9/10 but there does seem to be a serious graphics difference between the two. I am building a rig with vista in mind. Unlike what some people think i don't think this is going to turn into an ME situation unfortunately. DX10 is vista only its stupid but its going to be the way it is i believe.

If you plan on upgrading my suggestion is to upgrade for the long term. If it turns out vista truly does suck i can just uninstall drop in XP and boot that up instead.

  9. Wha... but... how... not own a DS?

Wow. Are you poor? Or live in a third-world country? Are you Amish, but hide it pretty well from the others?

How does one even remotely involved in video games not own a DS?

Do you want my DS (non lite)? It still works fine, and you can have it for free. Or maybe all of us pitch in and we buy you one.

    I am shocked.

Some of us use money for bigger projects. In my case i dont have a DS because i plan on building a gaming rig.
