  1. Last night was pretty fun; we had an impromptu single-class only for several maps. More events would be interesting, I think. OCR Karaoke night comes to mind.

As someone said, the Spy-only round was probably the quietest that TF2 has ever been. :D

  2. Yeah, last night was a blast. Medieval works surprisingly well for some of the game modes, though the Huntspam was absolutely murdering me. One of these days I'll figure out why I suck so much at melee.

And oh hey, Paranoid disguised as me after that ridiculous Heavy balcony stab. At least I wasn't a victim. :P

  3. -Jak II - A much darker tone to the whole thing than could be expected for a sequel to The Precursor Legacy, as well as a massive increase in difficulty, but it worked. I love everything about this game. Well, except for that one mission in the Water Slums...

...really? I can't say I was a fan of Jak II myself. The original was a fairly standard but rock-solid enjoyable platformer, but Jak II felt for all the world like the GTA-ripoff "sandbox" game it was, with a heaping helping of angst thrown on top. Jak's new personality amounted to generic RAEG, and the whole mission-based system that involved traveling back and forth hundreds of times through that city was nothing short of boring. And dear lord, some of those missions set in the city itself, where there were no health pickups...SO close to smashing my controller. Jak 3, however, did do a lot to redeem the franchise; driving those cars all over the desert was a ton of fun.

That aside, I think most of the games I'd think of, like DKC2, Sonic 2/3, and Melee, have already been mentioned; I'll throw in some Metroid Prime love too. Above all else, though, I have to give it to FreeSpace 2. It's pretty much THE definitive space sim game, and thanks to an incredible modding community, it's still alive and well today.

  4. Twisted Metal 3

TF2 aside, I'm glad someone mentioned this. Twisted Metal 2 was a PS1 classic: my brother and I will still play some co-op every once in a while (Outlaw and Axel for life), and I still listen to the soundtrack today. And then...there was TM3. Mangled gameplay, goofy character stories, nothing but licensed music. Blech. 4 was a slight improvement, but not by much, and nowhere near the awesomeness that was 2.

  5. So this wound up being a three-hat day, awesomely enough. I decided to go ahead and buy that Hachimaki, because it's only $8 and goes for an awesome cause. Since this was my first store purchase, I got a Mann Co. hat thrown in for free. And just for the hell of it, I tossed in an extra buck for a Turbine stamp, since I've had many a good time there, so I got the World Traveler's Hat too. I'm likin' it.

  6. I already gave something to the Red Cross, but this is a great thing for Valve to do. Those crazy hat obsessives will be doing something truly good for once. :P

(Though if my next paycheck comes through before the items are pulled, I might go for at least the cheapest one. $8 isn't much to ask.)

  7. Lulz. :D

And those hat tips are good advice in general, but the caveat is that I'm not necessarily looking for any hat in particular, just hats in general. Hell, I'd probably be perfectly satisfied with most of the dubiously-titled "crap" hats (so long as they aren't more hatless, anyway). I've used a trading server before to get my Demopan, but I'm not sure how effective it would be to waltz into one and yell, "ANY HATZ 4 2 REFINED?" But who knows, maybe it'd work.

  8. Damn, those are some depressing numbers.

The one thing that sucks from my perspective is that I've never once had enough metal to attmept crafting a random hat. Hell, the most metal I've ever had at one time is two Refined, and that went to crafting my Headtaker. It began when I started actively playing the game only two weeks before Polycount...every time I manage to craft/find/trade for all the weapons from the previous round, hey look, there's another new weapons update to deal with. At least these last two added just a handful of new stuff, but I can guarantee you that Valve will toss in a few more as soon as I snag the other Shogun items I need.

  9. It took me well over 100 hours for my first hat to drop (and that was a hatless Scout), but my brother got a Camera Beard within his first 20. There's a really huge range.

(Man, I'm kind of disappointed that my new Pot isn't paintable. I just had Australium Gold drop, and it would look pretty damn awesome.)

  10. Badlands is an awful map anyway.

    No loss IMO.

I can't say I'm a fan of Badlands proper myself, but I think Powerlord was just talking about the new KOTH version.

Also, I've just had two hats drop on me in as many days: a Prancer's Pride, and a Stainless Pot. This is after getting only one hat drop in my previous 250+ hours of play (two if you count my Whiskered Gentleman), and only owning two drop-able hats prior to this. I don't know what kind of lucky streak I'm on, but I like it. :D

  11. Sweet, now I have a few extra Vintage items, including the Sun-on-a-Stick I just crafted like two days ago. It's kind of weird having items that were just released two months ago turn Vintage, though. :P

In the grand scheme of things, though, this is a great idea. I've been trying to feed my brother any duplicate drops that he doesn't have, because I know it would take him months of constant playing to come close to crafting the entire weapons set.

  12. EDIT: Okay, so, the Scout item description was really confusing to me so I tried to figure out what it does. The melee hits do -90% damage, but your other weapons will do mini-crits to the target. Sounds pretty overpowered.

Not really...it's essentially the Scout's version of Jarate, only you have to get up in the enemy's grill to deliver it instead of lobbing it from a safe distance.

  13. This. I'm still trying to get some of the Australian Christmas items. IMO they should stop adding new items and start trying to balance what's already there. Razorback, Dalokoh's Bar, Unspellable Claymore, Pyro in general, etc.

I can't speak for the Dalokohs Bar, since I never use that, but I find the Razorback relatively useful myself. At least it gives you a chance to deal with Spies while you're sniping, instead of getting offed without any warning whatsoever.

  14. Welp, here we go again. I finally craft one of the Rift items, and they announce a bunch of new crap. Just like the last two weapons updates. Woo.

Seriously, though, I don't have a massive problem with Valve adding new stuff to the game (even though we're starting to approach critical-mass levels here, especially if you're a new player), but for crying out loud, at least give us a bit more time between these additions. Or if you won't, then maybe it's time to give the drop rate a significant boost. I play fairly frequently, and I'm always running way behind metal-wise.

  15. It sounds like a mashup of Katy Perry's California Girls and Sonic.

"Red sneakers with blue spikes on top!"

This source is indelibly branded on my mind as being one of the first game areas I ever played, and this track is a great tribute to the Green Hill goodness. Nice and bouncy, lots of layers, and the source is woven throughout the whole song. Thumbs up.
