  1. I'm pretty excited for the next game, even if the voice acting wasn't exactly what I expected...but then, if you take into consideration that the main character is a man returning home from a war, I can actually picture a young military man as fitting the voice in that teaser. Ah well, it could actually end up being really good; you never know. Hopefully we'll at least *SEE* more of SH5 in EGM's cover story for the October issue. ( http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3161061 ) They say it should be on sale in September, with Silent Hill 5 as the cover story. EDIT: As for where I got the details on the story of the game, that can be found here; http://games.ign.com/articles/803/803921p1.html
  2. I don't think anybody's posted on this one before, and I just now stumbled across it myself, but there's apparently a guy out there who's greated a new piano arrangement album called GAME, as a fundraiser for multiple sclerosis. The thing's got piano arrangements from Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, a bunch of Final Fantasy games, Mega Man, Tetris, Super Mario World, and a couple of piano arrangements from anime (Cowboy Bebop, Naruto, Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist, and InuYasha). He's got a demo track on there you can listen to, as well. The majority of the music is from games though, and at $9.99 per CD, 20% of which going towards MS research, it would be pretty cool to give this guy some support. I read that he'd done this same thing last year, and raised around $9600 for the cause. http://www.pianosquall.com/
  3. Those are some really interesting pictures over on Tatopoulous's website there, especially the ones that look like concept art for the nurse and the mumbler. I...think that's what they were called, at least. Probably the neatest one, though, was of that little insect-roach creature that hasn't been shown in such clear detail before. I'd for some reason never noticed before looking there, that the thing had little arms and legs. Freaky, yet cool. And thanks for the recording of Yamaoka in concert, too. I was at the Chicago PLAY! concert last year and heard him playing like that, and it's the biggest pain to try and find a recording of the song the way HE did it. Ah, the memories
  4. New version of E3 is in June this time, isn't it? ....Damn, how I miss the media blitz of new and awesome stuff every May Hopefully the new E3 will have some good stuff. Hopefully. Also, there's two new SH:0 videos that are out, if anybody would like to watch them. The first one is more or less the opening of the game, except it goes on for a bit longer, so you can hear more of that new Yamaoka song that plays in the beginning. http://gamevideos.com/video/id/11581 The second one is actually a bunch of gameplay in the beginning sections of Alchemilla Hospital, and it's at least nice to watch. http://gamevideos.com/video/id/11582 Enjoy ...even if there really isn't that much new to enjoy, hehe.
  5. Yeah, I suppose that's true with what you said there Razumen. There was a lot more to the badass factor of RE4 than the camera, but then again it was the camera that seemed so relevant when compared to SH:0 A first-person Silent Hill game though, when done right, could be amazing just as you said. Then again, it could be awfully easy to screw up, a la Silent Hill 4. I love SH4 of course, but I, like a lot of people it seems like, like it the least. I'd even just started helping a friend get into the series, and when we got to SH4, he told me that the first-person scenes just didn't at all feel anything like what should be in the series as a whole. In order to make a first-person SH game work right, it'd need to be almost *perfect*, and to be honest I'm not really sure how you'd keep a first-person game with guns from turning into an all-out shooter fest, aside from simplistic fixes like fewer enemies or scarce ammo. (And to be honest, not having enough ammo in a FPS game DOES get me to panicking...just a little, hehe) There's gotta be a right way to do it in there though, a way to make the player kinda handicapped, as a normal, inexperienced person with a gun would be, without dampening either the fun or the scare/psych out factor. There's tons of untapped stuff out there though, and really, this is one kind of game style that's pretty much untapped. I really hope someone, hopefully Konami with the SH series, can figure this out.
  6. Downloading the video now Thank you VERY much for posting these, and equal thanks to Silent Hill: Origins (The website, of course) for getting past IGN's Insider thing to get this video available to more people. Was killing me that I'd have to pay for a preview to a game, ugh >.< Also, it's a shame to hear about the removal of the RE4 camera...but then at the same time, there's a bright side to it. I think that if Origins had kept the RE4 camera, there might've been a little TOO much of a reminder of RE4 in there...and to be blunt, RE4 didn't scare me all that much; the camera angle was a large part of this. It's really weird and even paradoxical, at least for ME (Not sure who else this affected), since the over the shoulder camera angle of RE4 brought the player up closer to the action. At the same time though, for some odd reason (And combined with lots of other subtleties), it made you as a player feel much more capable of handling whatever went on in the game. That made sense when you played as a guy like Leon. The SH games derive some of their scare factor from NOT feeling capable. If Travis had a laser sight on his gun and could precisely shoot nurses and other atrocities with pinpoint precision, it would lessen the scare factor, and give the player a sense of "I can do this, those things can't possibly kill me!". I'm wondering if the developers got this feeling, themselves. Did any of you guys feel less afraid of RE4 because of its camera angle? Not that I'm putting RE4 down at all; that was an amazing thrill ride of a game. Problem was though, was that it was a thrill ride; not truly a frightening experience...at least, when compared to how the SH series can do it.
  7. Extremely great post yet again, hehe. Always blows mine out of the water. There's one thing about Origins that actually has me confused, though. I know that early in development, the game was to have a Resident Evil 4-esque camera system, but now it seems to have lost it. I've heard conflicting reports that the RE4 system is still in, and can be switched back and forth by using the L1 button...but then I've heard people saying that there's no more RE4 camera, and that the L1 button merely centers the camera behind Travis, similarly to the older SH games on PS2. No idea which one is the truth...any ideas?
  8. Just wanted to post this real quick, found it just this morning. http://pspupdates.qj.net/Silent-Hill-Origins-gameplay-videos/pg/49/aid/90216 New Silent Hill: Origins gameplay videos. It looks really awesome, actually Keep in mind while watching that the camera can be changed back to an over-the-shoulder view by pressing L at any time, but apparently the guy playing in these videos doesn't do that.
  9. The PS3 sure does put out a lot of heat...but you've gotta love how quiet it is while it does it. Was wondering, anybody try out that Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom game? I really don't get why, but I have lately been *addicted* to it! I'm only borrowing it, but it's definitely going to tide me over for Motorstorm...and when Motorstorm comes along, I'll just think to myself "Hey, you used to spend $60 on N64 games with no problems - you'll survive this", hehe. Overall, I'm really pleased with the PS3. Was even very pleasently surprised how good it looks on my standard definition crap-o-vision TV using the cables that came in the box to hook it up. Overpriced, maybe...but you get a lot of bang for your buck, and it's only gonna get better as they patch things up. Now, where's that 1.60 update...blah! It's supposed to be sometime in March, isn't it?
  10. This whole thing is an in-store-only deal, right? I mean, we can't order these games online and expect to get the same price, I'm imagining. Other than that, this is sweet Thanks for letting us know!
  11. Aw c'mon, the Silent Hill movie wasn't that bad...it's just very different from what people usually see. Far from perfect yes, but the most well-done video game adaptation I've seen yet.
  12. O.o What do you guys make of *this*? http://ps2.ign.com/articles/765/765395p1.html A Silent Hill arcade gun game? That's a little much, don't you think? Admittedly, I'd *love* to know exactly what happened on the Little Baroness, since the game never exactly said what happened, if I recall. EDIT: Here's a link to a thread with a bunch of screenshots. This *definitely* does NOT look like anything in the Silent Hill canon (Even if, somehow, the story actually seems to be - just not in the gameplay sense of canon, I guess)....and it's just weird...but it does kinda look fun! There's pictures on both the first and second pages of that thread there. http://forums.ffonline.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47508
  13. ....Hyperion? o.O You the same one I'm thinking of? Hehehe, hey there man
  14. ifirit, I've got to ask...About the Silent Hill Premium/Ultimate Edition, is that a Japan only release? For now it sure seems like it is, but are there any plans at all for it to be brought over to the US? If not....GHA! >.< Just looking at that feature list makes me jealous! >.<
  15. Oh yes, welcome Furin And thank you, although...I just don't hear the Silent Hill theme in that music at the end. I must be the only one too, haha, since I've looked up the trailer elsewhere and heard comments about the SH theme there...but I still don't hear it, unless it's being played backwards. It probably is a unique song though. And very nice job on the site by the way...You had the only copy of the SH:0 trailer 2 song I could find (For free) on the net, and the rest of the site is just packed with info
  16. ifirit, I have to ask...Where was that reinterpretation of the main Silent Hill theme? I can't find it for some odd reason. *Thank you* though for the trailers, as I hadn't seen these anywhere else...And damn, I am loving the music. Yamaoka just doesn't seem to let us down, does he? I'll admit though, I didn't like the song in the TGS trailer as much as I did the last official trailer, the one that showed the first samples of gameplay. Gotta be one of the better SH songs in recent years, for sure!
  17. Ohh man, good memories, good times...Thank you VERY much for the clip ifirit, I didn't think I'd ever hear that song a second time played like that Admittedly it loses the effect when you listen to it on headphones as recorded by some guy's camcorder, but DAMN it was impressive to hear in person.
  18. Romersa's voice is kind of an aquired taste, I guess I didn't like it at first, but it really grows on ya after awhile. Still, they could have used someone better...but they could've used someone worse, too.
  19. Well! Glad I'm the first one to say it (Since we all hate repeat information), but Silent Hill Origins has been announced, complete with pictures, a trailer, and some more information... Silent Hill Origins The game is for PSP, and is NOT a remake of Silent Hill 1....it's an entirely new story, that should help explain Silent Hill's past. It follows a truck driver who gets stranded in Silent Hill, and apparently the truck driver has some serious issues from his past that might involve hospitalization The article here also confirms the soundtrack will again be done by Yamaoka, so that's always a good thing! Also...That video clip you posted a bit ago, ifirit, seems to have been an actual, real clip from this game right here. So it was real!
  20. Hmm...more or less everything that can be said about the movie has already been said...And yeah, I thought it was great too Anyway...I found something kinda interesting for Oblivion while snooping around in the forums down there. Apparently, someone is making a mod for Pyramid Head armor. I think I mentioned this before but it was only a weird idea someone threw out, but now the guy has some pictures. Sure, it doesn't fit Oblivion one bit, but it could be fun running around in PH armor killing everything with that knife! Pyramid Head Armor and Knife Mod Not gonna link directly to the pics as it's Imageshack and they have a tendency to always have bandwidth issues...So just go there and look on the first page. Two pics at the first post, and further down there's 4 more or so.
  21. Guys, please >.< If you have spoilers, change the font color to white, okay? Just nitpicking, but tiny text is still easy to read even if you're just trying to avoid it. I've been hearing a lot of good things about this movie, with only a few nitpicks. The biggest one seems to be that the real-world stuff, where Officer Gucci and Chris Da'Silva are walking around looking for Rose, is unnecessary. If that's the biggest complaint they can make, then this movie is gonna be great And Decoy, I read somewhere that Gans didn't screen the movie for critics for some weird technicality, not that he had little confidence in the movie. There was some reason having to do with French critics or something....ARGH! I wish I could remember it right now >.< (Got the info from IMDb...so take whatever I said with a grain of salt) But rest assured, I'm hearing all over the place that this movie has floored people. (Except here o.0) So pick your hopes back up, go and see the movie, and judge for yourself whether you like it or not.
  22. I'm gonna have to take a look at that, thanks for the link
  23. Sorry to keep beating the horse and all, just wanted to clarify. Of course it's possible to do a scary game in a first or third person way, in a more shooter-type environment...But it's much more difficult to do that in the Silent Hill world, because there's so little action. It's all atmosphere, right? Those games you mentioned were great though (Though I never played System Shock 2 or AvP 2, regrettably) and definitely scary They just aren't scary the same way Silent Hill is, at least to me. It's all very subjective Just saying that, if you wanted to create a Half Life 2 mod that mimicked Silent Hill, it could be great - but it couldn't be a straight-up shooter. The pacing would have to be slower (Not literally, like with bullet-time, hehe), and there'd have to be a MAJOR focus on atmosphere. That's some difficult stuff to pin down right there, and Silent Hill itself does it so well, which is a big reason we all love it. Duplicating that in any other medium would be so painstakingly difficult On that note, strangely enough, I heard someone on the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion forums the other day request Pyramid Head be modded into the game...which would be cool, even though there's no way he'd fit! Ohh...reminds me. There's actually a real review up on the movie now, at The Horror Channel. I don't think there's any spoilers in it, but it was actually a very good review, with 4 1\2 Mugs of Blood outta 5! Have a look! The Horror Channel Review: Silent Hill
  24. Ehh....about that Half Life 2 mod, I'm not sure. There actually IS a Silent Hill mod for Max Payne 2...but it isn't very good, or playable o.o The whole Silent Hill formula just doesn't fit into a first person shooter, because then the game ends up becoming too actiony, know what I mean? Like way too fast-paced. Of course that's something that could be fixed, but it would take a LOT of work. There's so many talented modders out there though...and unfortunately, I'm not one of em
  25. I guess some people just can't appreciate it, can they? "OMGZ BOO!" scares wear so thin, so fast...although, Silent Hill HAS had a few of them; but only the original PS1 game. Remember the body in the locker, or the cat in the school? I nearly fell over laughing while I was playing SH1 and my best friend's girlfriend was watching, then that part happened. She ran out of the room screaming. I bet she would't be scared like that ever again though, hehe. It's a good thing that the other 99% of scares from SH games are the "Get under your skin and NEVER leave" kind. Oh yeah, another thing here; Silent Hill: Original Sin They're remaking Silent Hill 1 for the PSP, and calling it "Silent Hill: Original Sin" It has a release date of October 18th, 2006. I'll be picking that one up for sure
