  1. This is the rumor circulating right now... but a lot of people are saying its true.

Sakurai announced that Young Link, Game and Watch, and the Ice Climbers are gone. Ridley, WindWaker Link, and Baby Bowser will replace them.

Fine by me. I'd take Ridley over those three combined any day.

  2. Here's my theory. If SSBB does have lag, it will ruin the game experience...just like it ruins Halo, Halo 2, Counter-Strike, etc. People will play it anyway, even if it sucks.

Well yeah, ANY online game is bound to have lag at sometime or another. Its not like it'll be laggy at all times.

My point exactly. Lag? Deal with it. It'll happen.

  3. I'm glad that not all characters will be returning. After all, there are some useless ones that no one really used, such as Pichu and Mr. Game & Watch.

I don't like that they're making the game "easier", though. To me, that translates to "dumbed down", which a lot of series, particularly Nintendo ones, seem to be doing.

I'm really not too afraid of them dumbing down the game, seeing as Nintendo probably doesn't want to totally screw up one of their top-selling franchises. Just wait and see.

  4. Oh, and I really hope they can take wavedashing out of Brawl. It'd ruin the online play... OMG SNAKING!

I really hope they take wavedashing out for Brawl as well...especially since it was almost certainly not meant to be used in the first place.

Actually, I've heard that the debuggers actually found it and left it in.

I see no real problem with it, to be honest. It's not like some n00b can pick it up and start doing it to ace a veteran, and even after practicing for a while, it still takes a long time to be able to do effectively.

What, pray tell, is this "wavedashing"?

    http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/gamecube/game/516492.html

Ctrl+F "Advanced Techniques". It's all in there - what it is, who's best at it, how to do it, et cetera.

I never found wavedashing to be that useful, actually. You could be the best wavedasher in the world and not do shit against a player who can combo.

  5. Important question:

If I never ever teach myself to use the R button, will I get my ass handed to me?

I can't beat the game on hard without using a continue, either.

You mean the shield right? If so, yeah, the shield is pretty important. The R button also allows you to do dodges. You should try fighting low level CPUs and work your way up to the highest ones, and multiple opponents.

I can beat a single level 9 opponent 99% of the time. I get KO'd a few times, yes, but that's mostly because I turn off all the items. I can come out on top when facing three level 7 opponents in melee, but above that is pretty difficult. I just never ever ever block or dodge, and I want to figure it out.

Mastering the block and dodge are key. If you don't block or dodge, you can't avoid getting pummeled and have to constantly be on the offensive to avoid damage. It becomes almost natural to block or dodge eventually. I can beat three level 9 opponents with a challenge, but human opponents, obviously, are less predictable and therefore more challenging.

  6. I guess Donkey Kong Country stages are out of the question? Is that Rare territory? I'm not sure.

Nope, anything DK related is Nintendo's, including DKC. Anything created by Rareware associated with Donkey Kong or Starfox became the property of Nintendo, even if Rare moved elsewhere. So characters like K. Rool and Krystal are totally viable for SSBB, and I comletely expect to see them...

Meh, they already have Fox and Falco...they don't need Krystal too IMO. That'd be terrible, having Krystal in SSBB...who's next? Slippy? lol

Really? I think Krystal would be great. Give her the staff with its rocket boost, fire and ice abilities, and the earthquake, and she'd be awesome. But I agree, leave Slippy out.

Type in "Krystal" with the filter off in google image search.

    furries

Uhh, CG videogame animal porn? I can't even imagine how nerdy that is.

  7. Link was the main character in

    LoZ

    LoZ LA

    LoZ LttP

    LoZ LAwakening

    LoZ OoT

    LoZ MM

    LoZ OoA

    LoZ OoS

    LoZ 4S

    LoZ 4SA

    LoZ WW

and one of the 3 CD-I zeldas.

And even time wise, Link has existed for over 20 years. He has gained a ton of abilities, and he has participated in countless adventures.

Cloud was the main character in one game, and a plot device/accessory in some others.

And he only existed for what? 10 years tops?

    Cloud got pwnt by Link

  8. So what could be the Snake's "Taunt" in SSBB ? :P

He takes a puff of a cig.

I'm pretty sure that's it. And there's probably an extended version, like Fox's and Falco's special taunt, where he has a codec conversation with Otacon and the such.

I doubt nintendo would allow smoking.

A big part of thier fan base are children remember.

    Yes and no...

Firstly, they might just do to his cig what Kingdom Hearts did to Cid's cig.

Secondly, you're forgetting that much of Nintendo's loyal fanbase was 7-12 back when the NES came out. That could make them as old as 33... not quite children anymore. This large non-kid fanbase was part of the reason their marketing strategy for the Gamecube was aimed at a younger generation.

Even better. Snake looks all cool and stuff, but about 10% of the times he taunts, he chokes , loses the cigarette and coughs. Message got through clear and ninty is still kid friendly.

Ha. Nice. It would be even better if he lit one up, filled the board with smoke, and gave everybody cancer. "Don't smoke kids!"

Dammit I need to quit smoking.

In the Gameboy version of Metal Gear Solid they changed the name of Snake's smokes to "foggers," at Nintendo's request. Perhaps in SSBB he'll pull out a fogger, not a cigarette...?

Game Boy version of Metal Gear Solid... What?

  9. If anything, Nintendo just HAS to put Reggie in the game. That would be so awesome if they did that for fun.

Only if he kicks ass and takes names as a supermove.

I've honestly been thinking about the music more than any new characters. I wonder what nostalgic bit of goodness they will draw from the Kid Icarus soundtrack? What music will be played in the MGS level (if there is one)?

Ooh, the possibilities of an MGS level...

They've already seem to have done a good job with Metaknight's airship.

  10. Ok time for some major speculation here.

On http://www.smashbros.com/en/story/index.html , Masahiro Sakurai, the director of SSBB, says that he is working with a studio that he cannot name. He goes on to mention that the studio had just finished a big game project, and were willing to work on the SSBB project. If Sakurai accepted the job in May of 2005, and the project he talks about finished a large-scale game soon afterwards, which studio might he be talking about? Which big game completed soon after E3 last year?

My first impulse is to guess Metroid Prime 2, which if true means that the studio is Retro Studios. The inclusion of the new Samus character helps support (but not prove) this theory. So what do you guys think?

Of course not, you fool, they're too busy working on MP3 to satisfy the masses.

Ahh, good point. That pretty much eliminates Retro as a posibility, so who else can we consider? Maybe Namco, who would have completed Mario Baseball and Tales of Symphonia around then (I think).

Namco isn't really a specific dev studio, and Tales of Symphonia was 2004, am I right? Let's try to come up with some more independent dev companies rather than large-scale producers...personally, none come to mind right now, but if anyone has any ideas...

  12. Yeah, this is becoming a list title, but I'll throw my two cents in:

With the growing popularity of Metroid, I'll bet on a couple more Metroid stages (a stage with Ridley flying around wildly, attacking random players, perhaps, or Dark Aether, where characters take damage outside roving light spheres of protection, or maybe the Artifact Temple, where the huge temple pillars move around at random and will shoot up and down from the ground, maybe combined with the Ridley stage above).

Also, I'd predict one Kid Icarus stage.

If they put Pit in game, yeah, you're probably right about the Kid Icarus stage.

    On a side note:

I always said that Smash Bros. needed supers and finally they have come.

  13. Personally, I like the original better (probably because I am freaking god-like at it, but still). It's slower-paced, more fun combos, you can actually tell what is going on too. Don't get me wrong, I loved SSBM, but I loved the original more.

  14. I enjoyed this Remix thoroughly. The author obviously knew what he was doing, the original melody was correct down to the last note, and the improvisation is near perfect. Not the most interpretive or daring remix, but as the mighty TO said, the charm is all there. Definitely recommended. Of course, if you have something against acoustic guitars, don't even bother listening.
