I asked you guys to keep on the lookout for when I'd reschedule the All-Originals show, and Thursday night is that night. So be sure to make it to VG Frequency's 2nd Annual All-Originals Show, this Thursday from 10 PM to Midnight EST. The shows before and after me apparently feature ladies, so if you wanna test the stream and whatnot, feel free to do it at those times. I may or may not be on this Saturday, as I'll be on Spring Break. When I know what my plans are, I'll let everyone know.

Actually...that wasn't Suteki da Ne from FFX. That was some completely different Japanese song, probably with the same name. I still thought it was decent, though. :/ Goddamit!
-
Ah, but technically, he DID miss much, Dhsu! For you see, though we did not have the All-Originals show as planned, VGF somehow turned out pretty interesting without much music. Thanks a hell of a lot to DarkeSword, Jared Hudson, SuperGreenX, Succubus & zircon for BAILING MY ASS OUT by calling into the show and providing some much-appreciated interview time, as well as everyone else who provided requests to play over the night. (Except for "Suteki da ne"! ) I'm sorry I really couldn't get to everyone's requests, but a slapped-together request show might be fun at some point when I do it ON PURPOSE! Important thanks to my usual suspects, Species for the MP3 archive as well as OverCoat for the chat transcript, both available now at https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji. As you see in the playlist info, the All-Originals show was postponed, since the cord connecting laptop to the radio station soundboard was broken earlier by the incredibly stupid DJs before me. Therefore, I can't stress this enough: stay alert for me doing a mid-week show to cover the All-Originals material; otherwise, we'll do all of that for the next show! Enjoy your playlist, and let's never speak of this again! Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA) "VG Frequency" - Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 10 PM - 12:07 AM 0. Simply put, the idiotic hosts of the show before VG Frequency, Bumknuckle & Whoreslice, managed to sever the cord needed to connect Larry's laptop to the radio station soundboard, rendering the All-Originals show planned for this week as a bust, so please enjoy the following impromptu proceedings 1. DarkeSword calls in to find out what's wrong with the planned show and whores his site, sees how Larry's doin', reveals that JigginJonT bought an Escalade, discusses Jeremy Soule's new Final Fantasy 6 mix, inquires about the problems with "Dream Pipe" now showing up on the OCR main page, provides major pimpage on a mix currently in the OC judges' panel (The Bronx Rican's Sonic Adventure 2 mix, "Knuckles' Unknown from M.C."), criticizes Larry's lack of video game playing, plugs the first Totally Awesome DarkeSword Collaboration Remix Challenge and its objectives, grasps to explain how the All-Originals show was postponed, strokes Succubus's intellectual ego, flaunts his Spring Break, and pimps The Bronx Rican again [http://www.darkesword.com] 2. Jared Hudson wants a ShoutCast stream (don't we all?), rags on the show after VG Frequency ("Please Kill Us Now!"), mentions a potential gig through Digital World FX composing music for a classic cars documentary on the Speed channel as well as Abram McCalment's new equipment, laments the difficulties of ragtime composition, confirms the surly-personable paradox of internet personalities, discusses n00b behavior, piracy and artistic development in the game mixing & professional music communities, goes over his troubles with his application to Berklee, feels the need to beatbox, and uses metaphors to make everything better [http://www.hudsonstudios.net] 3. Star Salzman w/Protricity - Megaman X1 "Dreams Come True" [http://www.starblast.org & http://www.public.asu.edu/~arasulin] 4. Paige requests "Suteki de na", and Larry stupidly plays her request 5. Rikki - "Suteki da ne" (a.k.a. 'Isn't It Beautiful?') [Final Fantasy X: Suteki da ne] 6. Paige complains about Larry cutting Rikki off mid-song, while Larry complains over the physiological side effects of listening to "Suteki da ne" 7. The Bronx Rican - Sonic Adventure 2 "Knuckles' Unknown from M.C." [http://www.bronxrican.com] 8. SuperGreenX makes an appearance to advertise his upcoming original album "Synesthetic", explain the promotional differences between his own website compared to MP3.com, talk about fans of his music from the Flash Flash Revolution community, promote his weekly Wednesday night radio show (8-10 PM) on Flash Flash Revolution Radio, and give insight on his musical influences [http://www.supergreenx.com] 9. Disposer & Thumper - Great Greed "The Greatest Greed" [VGMix2 #42 / OC ReMix #1126] 10. Succubus let's everyone know that she's been enjoying the show, and she's feeling the frigid Winterpeg weather while dissing American snow; she's also practicing her New York accent, lets us know about her graduate studies and thesis work involving atmospheric science & meteorology, observes the male pursuit of intellectual women, lets us know about LooneyCall (the Canuck approach to 10-10-220), and highlights the Dakar vs. Succubus debate on what's the better Need for Speed soundtrack [http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~umfisico] 11. Crispin Hands - "Cerebral Plumbing" [Need for Speed II Special Edition OSV] 12. zircon makes his presence felt for SoundTempest.net, gives us the low on how the site's new format for original game music submissions emerged, points out the potential growth for SoundTempest as analogous to OverClocked ReMix's beginnings, mentions attention already coming to SoundTempest from the game development community, makes comparisons of the site and its contributors to Tommy Tallarico's Game Audio Network Guild (G.A.N.G.), and speaks about his artistic progression from his first Phantasy Star 4 remix "Motavian Battlefield" to his current one "Final Emprise", as well as the pronunciation of Xelebes, comparisons of community feedback for one's music from VGMix & OC ReMix, and tackling more remixing material from the Phantasy Star series [http://www.zirconstudios.com] 13. Ziwtra - Xenogears "Skyline" [OC ReMix #1038] 14. DarkeSword - "It's Dark Outside" [ReVamped OST] 15. ENCORE: The Bronx Rican - Sonic Adventure 2 "Knuckles' Unknown from M.C." [http://www.bronxrican.com]

Heheh, lots of good stuff from everyone who posted. I'm suprised Nintendo of Japan never came up with a Boo Cocky ghost for Mario, though knowing the Japans, they probably made a concept sketch and it's an in-joke in their company. With that said, it wouldn't surprise me if Wingy and his penchant for bukakke somehow gained employment at Nintendo of Japan. Shit, his mind packed his bags a long time ago! He's a full perved-out Japan! Mythril suspects that Ailsean is analogous to goatse. Never quite thought of it that way. You know...the whole ass stretching thing. And not thinking about goatse was definitely on purpose. Please use the for the internet superstar comparisons in the future! No prob on the archives, Justin. Thank Species for getting these out with the quickness. zyko didn't show up last week, but weed'll be coming on the air relatively soon, yo. We were talking on AIM about a whole shitload of stuff, and he's absolutely right that he can talk at length about pretty much any subject regarding remixing, music, and the community here, so look forward to a lot of good stuff from weed. Ha; I'm glad you noticed I played your PRC9 winning track, Emporer. It was my pleasure to listen to it and play it. Keep holdin' it down in Russia. [/Russian pride] Good luck tweaking "Tears of the Lurker" and submitting it to OCR. The track went over pretty well last Saturday, so it has a genuine shot of making it with even further work. Good job yo. For tonight's show, we're featuring ONLY original (i.e. non-remix) work from remixers, so check out the submission thread to see some of the tracks that are going to be featured tonight. I'm gonna be hard-pressed to fit all of the tracks that I have in the space of tonight's show, but if all goes as planned, SGX'll be calling quickly to get out some original pimpage for his upcoming original album project, and DCT'll dropping in for a second as well. Like last year, we've got a great set of original works from OC's finest as well as hot tracks from several up-and-coming developing artists in the community. You'd be stupid to not check things out tonight. DON'T BE STUPID! If you're interested in the proceedings, be sure to be around from 10PM to 12AM EST tonight, and don't forget about IMing me at "Liontamer87" or joining the AIM chat room directly at "VG Frequency". Tonight's all about originality.

OCR01130 - Final Fantasy VI "Squaresoft Variation"
Liontamer replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is absolutely excellent work, and even though DJP (understandably) went crazy in his mix description, this one's pretty much everything he said it was, and to be honest, I don't even like the Terra theme, so I'm grateful for Jeremy's very dynamic arrangement here. For all the nitpickers out there, I suppose if you want professional work, turn to a professional, because this is indeed very refined and polished. The atmosphere here is pretty dynamic without being overbearing, and the strings are beautiful. It's tracks like these that make it much easier to get people to give video game music a chance, and with that said, I'll be glad to show this off to people I know. Hopefully, Mr. Soule might provide OCR with one or two more tracks down the line that give us more insight on other fellow game music composers he's enjoyed. As long as they don't get buried in the proverbial submission pile though, right Dave? Hey, a close call is better than not hearing this track at all, so hopefully no one rags on you too much! -
OCR01129 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Dream Pipe"
Liontamer replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
First off, I wanna formally congradulate Darke on being on of the two newest judges here at OC. He's definitely risen such a long way in 2003, and it's good to see that growth recognized. Shariq jokingly bags on me for not reviewing his newest postings at VGMix, but I DID review "Dream Pipe", so here's my detailed review from VGMix below. Nice job, bro! Like DarkeSword alluded to in his overview of the mix, the Special Stage theme in Sonic 2 was not terribly good music. I think it certainly worked in the context of the game, but, when removed from it, the source tune doesn't really stand alone well, and isn't something typically considered good listening outside of its game unlike many more notable tracks such as the Sonic 1 Labyrinth Zone theme, for example. The big challenge that DarkeSword had for remixing the Sonic 2 Special Stage theme was essentially to turn chicken sh*t into chicken salad (or gumbo out of doodoo meat for all you H*R fans), and I think DS's unique spin on the construction of this track helped make "Dream Pipe" stand out as a big improvement over it's lacking source tune. The second thing you notice in the track (after the viloin sythns) as it warms up is that the basic background beat for the mix is significantly different from (yet still very reminiscent of) the way it sounds from the original music. By taking liberties with the most basic of structural elements of the track, there's already a different, more accessible feel to the mix. The piano chords that make up the meat of the melody are also a lot less in-your-face than the LOUD synths from the source theme, and DarkeSword takes general care to tone down this mix from the almost chipperly agressive structure of the original. Despite the way that the mix tends to be more laid back that it's source tune, the construction of Dream Pipe is still similar enough to the Special Stage track that you can honestly envision Sonic and Tails running to this music in the setting of the game, so Dream Pipe doesn't distance itself from the spirit of the original in DarkeSword's effort to create something different. The bongo and electrosynth combination work and the piano predominant solo in the second half of the mix is where you experience the most dynamic rearrangement, so if you weren't really feeling that the mix was exploring new territory before, the second half pretty much erased those concerns, and pushed the mix over the edge. A lenghty amount of time spent on the more liberal arrangement of the theme in part 2 eventually leads into a bridge connecting the progress back to the more familiar melody you hear in the beginning. Since the first half had that original song familiarity for me, I was glad that DarkeSword allowed the mix to come full circle as a total package, and thereby not let the listener feel unsatisfied that the first section wasn't revisited in any way. It's a lot easier to gain recognition for rearrangement when you decide to alter the tempo of an original song or change its time signature, but we'd be remiss to forget that sometimes the changes involved in rearrangement aren't quite as drastic and overt. DarkeSword has managed to keep the pace of Dream Pipe the same as the original tune, but nevertheless has done a lot in the instrumentalization and arrangement work (in the 2nd half) here to add his sylistically laid-back stamp to the Special Stage music and make it a lot more accessible than it's mediocre inspiration. To me that certainly achieves the goal of perpetuating whatever legacy the original music had. I definitely believe that DarkeSword took Walan's challenge and ran with it in a way that not many others could do, which is why "Dream Pipe" definitely deserves serious listening. -
I said the archives would be up by 4 PM EST on VGMix, and I meant it! https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji Go ahead and pick up shows #16 & #18. Like I said before, #17 is a no-go, and the stream problems have F-ed up 13.99, 14, & 15, I believe. Species'll hook me up with older stuff down the line, as long as the recording was ok. I know Wingy still wants #10 for the bukakke jokes. Thanks again for the NFS tracks, Dakar. Yeah, definitely keep letting me check out further tracks from the Need for Speed series. Name pimpage shall continue! I'll be buggin' you soon, Beat. Keep the Final Energy goodness coming, bro! And everyone, you BETTER be pimpin' the All-Originals thread for the special event next week. Don't leave me hanging. I know a lot of you have great material to submit, so be sure to pimp that out!

Yo, folks. Glad to have so many people checking out the show this week, though we unfortunately had no weed at the show! I didn't wanna play zyko's stuff without him being there to comment on it, so I'll be saving it for when weed's available to call in. Maybe we can get something going for sometime during the upcoming week, since zyko's down with that. The "controversy" over the lyrical content of Niggaz 4 Life has become a pretty hot topic over the last couple of days. We'll see what ends up happening, but please keep your eyes open for a possible mid-week show this coming week. Thanks to DarkeSword & JigginJonT for calling in and providing the mixer entertainment this week, as well as all of the new listeners this week for stopping by. Props to OverCoat & Moose585 for the chat transcript hookups. With Spring Break coming soon and Larry chillin', expect some cool shit to finally see the light of day including comprehensive playlists, AIM interviews & funny VGF chat excerpts up on the VG Frequency webpage. Next week is the All-Originals show, so if you're a mixer and wanna contribute something, get the layout here and submit 1 track of yours for me to pimp. Thanks to Species for recording this week's show. This has actually been the first show, I believe, since Season 2 started that was able to be recorded, since the Real stream blows, but I may be able to obtain the MP3 archive Sunday and get it out there. Now check out the playlist to see what was cookin': Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA) "VG Frequency" - Saturday, February 21, 2004 - 10:10 PM - 12:10 AM 1. Thanks for everyone who stopped by Friday's impromptu show and hung out, especially Vigilante & DCT for calling in. It was a sweet turnout, and there's nothing more fun then mixing combustible elements like Jared Hudson & Dan Baranowsky. We've got some good stuff coming up for Saturday, but let's get to Friday's playlist first: Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA) "VG Frequency" - Friday, February 20, 2004 - 4:05 - 6:05 PM 1. DarkeSword - Super Mario 64 "Pearl Diver" [http://www.darkesword.com] 2. Nobuo Uematsu - "J-E-N-O-V-A" [Final Fantasy VII OST] 3. Vigilante calls in from his car to let everyone know he's not dead first and foremost, pimps new stuff on the horizon including a Zelda 64: Ocarina of Time remix, and comments on the additions of DarkeSword & [OMG, THAT'S CLASSIFIED INFORMATION] to the OC judges' panel [http://www.geocities.com/jesse_taub] 4. analoq - Phantasy Star 1 "Wanta Phanta" [OverClocked ReMix #953] 5. The Evil Horde - Megaman 2 "Quick Draw" [OC ReMix #470] 16. Avien - Streets of Rage 2 "Slow Moon Groove" [VGMix1 #1370 / OC ReMix #788] 17. Koji Kondo - "Swimming BGM" [super Mario Bros. 3 OST] Don't forget about Saturday's show, i.e. tomorrow. zyko will be on hand for an interview, and (not like I've formally asked or anything), but maybe DarkeSword can briefly call in and give a few words about being appointed to the OC judges' panel, or maybe Beatdrop can call in about his decision to step down from the panel. In any case, weed'll be with the show and taking your questions if you have them. There's also gonna be tons of other stuff on the show as well, including some of the latest OC mixes, Emporer's winning entry for PRC9, stuff from Star Salzman, Pixelated, Beatdrop, Unknown, Mustin, the "very, very popular" Seifer, Dennis Mott, JigginJonT, SuperGreenX and more, including a few tracks from the Need for Speed series contributed by Dakar (thanks yo). Everything's looking good this week, so be sure to tune into the main show, Saturday night, 10 PM to Midnight EST. The 28th's the All-Originals Show #2; be sure to contribute to the upcoming thread on that.

Hello there, folks. Hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day proceedings last night. If you couldn't be out there on some dates and working your mojo, I hope you at least stopped by to check out the video game related festivities over at VG Frequency. This week's episode was cleverly titled "Infected with VD", which is also appropriate given that the Emory network was being extremely awful, so the stream was lousier than usual and I was in and out of AIM every few minutes. Sorry to Species, who couldn't get a recording of the show this week, thanks to Emory's shitty network problem. A whole bunch of people weren't even able to tune in, the connection was so horrendous. If I can, I'll sneak in an extra show during the week to make up for it, provided things are more stable. Regardless, we had an excellent offering of V-Day-related songs and I'm really proud of the offering we had this week. Of course, there are other songs that could have fit the theme, but we've only got 2 hours, so no complaints. Thanks again to everyone who made requests and everyone who was able to stop by. I was able to hang out and play an hour and a half of extra stuff as well, so thanks to DCT & neminem who hung out a little longer. Thanks to neminem for the chat transcript this week. I'm working on providing the backlog of AIM convos so those should be up soon. Species will also be sending me an old episode later in the week. Be sure to be around next week, when zyko comes on the air for an interview. I hope the stream becomes more manageable next week, because you know weed's gonna be a dope interview. Feel free to ask questions in the chat room or whatnot, as weed's willing to answer all sorts of questions. Without further ado, let's get to the playlist: Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA) "VG Frequency" - Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 10:05 PM - 12 AM 1. Hiroki Kikuta - "Close Your Eyelids" [secret of Mana OST] I'm also going to be starting to take requests for the 2nd OCRtists All-Originals show in 2 weeks on February 28th, featuring only original tracks created by everyone involved in the community. I'll be looking to OCR & VGMix to provide me with requests. The first show was a full 4 hours, so we'll see how things turn out for this next one. I'll be doing a separate thread to ask for requests, so be sure to keep an eye out for that. No need to post right here.
-
If you're not in love, you better be here soon...
-
Muy bien. More, por favor!
-
I haven't had time this week to pimp out the Valentine's Day show coming up, but if anyone has more requests that tie into love, matters of the heart and whatnot, drop 'em on me with the appropriate linkange so I can pick up your V-Day music request and play it. If it's obscure or not easily attainable in a game music format, give me a place where I can get it. Like DarkeSword's request, original music by mixers is sweet as well, but don't request anything besides game music, game remixes or mixer originals.

That's aight. I was bumpin' & grindin' last night too. JigginJonT & DarkeSword can't make it either too, but we carry on. The show's lookin' lively right now, so check out the AIM chat room at "VG Frequency" or IM me at Liontamer87 for the invite.

Done and done. I'll be playing "Another Fair" again this week to celebrate it's OC posting, and I'm doing a double shot of Marc Star with both "Fantasy Rush" as well as "Kasugano (Booty Mix)". I'll get "Waltz of Pain" & "Rosettarefrain" for the Valentine's Day episode next week. Love will soon be on the air in video game radio form.

Yo yo folks. Just checking in to see if anyone has any requests for this coming Saturday's episode of VGF. We've already got some good stuff on board with new bumpers from BliziHiZaKe & OverCoat, along with requests for funkymuskrat, Electron (Happy Birthday!), OverCoat, JigginJonT, prozax, Beatdrop's latest cut from Final Energy, and TO's winning entry for the People's Remix Competition 8. Keep an eye out for February's episodes of VG Frequency. On the 14th, we've got the Valentine's Day edition. I'll be looking for requests from YOU, my fair listeners, so keep your suggestions in mind. DCT's already requested "Goodbye at the Airport" by capoeira legend Mazedude, so that's just a quick example of what you'll be hearing. And of course, there'll be tons of lovey dovey songs (VGM, VG remixes & mixer originals) that all have titles with "love" and "heart" and "skank". You know, all the Hallmark buzz words. Nothing's specifically planned for the 21st, although I'll see if zyko is willing to come on the air for an interview then, since weed's been nice enough to wanna do one. Weed's been doing music for a long time beyond the game remixing scene, and he's gonna be a very interesting guest whenever we have the chance to have him on the air. In any case, it'll be a regular show, but anyone interested in doing an interview, lemme know and I'll be glad to have you on the air. The 28th will be the big second edition of my All-Originals show, featuring ONLY original, non-game-related songs created by your favorite OC ReMixers & VGMixers, so definitely be sure to be around for some unique cuts right there. I'll be making sure to bug everyone I know to get 1 track per person, and if it's anything like the last show, I'll literally need 4 hours through 2 shows to play everything. Hopefully someone will give up a free timeslot on Leap Year Day this year (Sunday, February 29th), so that I can do an extra show..."THE SHOW THAT NEVER WAS!" I'm really hoping down the line to have remixers and guys from the community in the Atlanta area (UGA/Georgia Tech) over for a show down the line. I know FateHologram (Justin Zer0/debotron), kLuTz, sephfire & OMG Bagel Fuzzynuts are around, along with Electron who's with me at Emory. Who knows if we can get something like that done, but I'll be seeing what we can do down the line. That's the plan going through this month my peeps & peep-ettes, so keep Larry Lar in mind and keep tuning in! Lemme know if you have any requests for this Saturday.

EDIT: I love you. Not as much as the Super Bowl , but thanks for the transcript yo. I'll get on AIM soon.

Very phat show tonight, with the most people in the chat room ever with 33 at one time. We had people going in and out, but it was nice to nearly break the room with listeners. Thanks to Species for figuring out a way around RealPlayer's crappiness in order to record tonight's proceedings. I'll get some older episode archives eventually, have no fear bukkake fans. Thanks a lot to smh, OverCoat & Moose585 for this week's new bumpers, which went over real well with the chat room. Great job, peeps! I really appreciate the effort, so keep 'em coming. Also props to DarkSword, Danny B & Adhesive Boy for calling in tonight as well as Kaleb Grace for recommending I play some tracks from SaGa Frontier II, which has some excellent tracks. Thanks again to everyone who came by, and I hope to see you next week.

Hey, glad to have you aboard last week, even if it was only for part of it. Rectify your mistake by tuning in tonight for this week's show. It'll benotbetter than the fucking SUPER BOWL! OCR01112 - Super Metroid "Braving the Flames"
Liontamer replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is definitely the hotness. I was actually planning to play this on this upcoming Saturday for VG Frequency before I just saw it was posted here, since AB said this was the remix that he was most proud of making out of the few he's released. He's been waiting for this one to get posted for quite a while, so I'm glad it finally made it. There are so many things going on here, that, yeah, it's hard to really write a coherent play-by-play on this one, but it's an excellent overall piece. The panning effects are tight, the flow is varied up a hell of lot thanks to Pr0t, and everything comes together in a unique package. If you want to check out some more of Adhesive Boy's work in a stylistically similar vein as this, you should really check out his Zelda 3 WIP over at VGMix, "Clouds of Smog Over Hyrule". Feel free to prod AB with comments and suggestions so that he continues working on what sounds like a very promising track as well. Great work, AB! This is why, when I said you were one of the fresh crop of top mixers along with DarkeSword, GrayLightning & SGX on VG Frequency, I wasn't bullshitting you. -
OCR01107 - Mario Kart 64 "Frappe Cafe Vibe"
Liontamer replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Like a lot of other people have been saying, I believe some of the chords use are pretty suspect; they didn't hit my ear well. Nonetheless, this is a fairly good mix. I went into this one more in-depth on VGMix, so here's my review: The opening notes honestly don't sound very melodic, and even when they're joined with the melody at 0:10, they don't really seem to match up well. Maybe those notes in a major key style would have worked better. When they're relegated to the background though, it's not as much of an issue for me. The "Frappe Snowland" saxophone melody, along with the backing drums however, are composed very well, not to mention the subtle but quality bass guitar notes. While you're just laying out the basics that people are expecting with the melody from 0:10 to 0:40, the little saxophone bits in between the melody that are pure arrangement are pretty nice. Once the next part of the source melody comes into play with the switchup at 0:45, I had a problem with the dissonant notes being used. I didn't feel that the notes were changed "for the sake of changing the notes", but compared to the major key style of the melody you began with, they really clashed with the sound you started off with. It gets easier to not have a problem with upon repeated listening. Also, I know the feel of the song was supposed to be different as compared to earlier, but some more velocity on the trumpets and sax from 0:45 to 1:03 would have made them seem more natural sounding, as the notes seemed to end a little abruptly. As a fan of SuperGreenX using the bongos, I liked the mini-section from 1:08 to 1:25, although again, the horns/trumpets from 1:16 to 1:25 had notes that just didn't match the major key feel that the main melody has. I'm no musician, but my ear just doesn't go for that stuff. 2:00 had an even more impressive bongo section, and while it wasn't 100% natural sounding, it's hard to program them that way, so I was still appreciative of what went into it. 2:21 segues into pure arrangement (those these synth piano notes are very sparse sounding) and while I'm down with that, a few notes felt out of place from 2:39 to 2:42 as the track got fuller once again. Kinda nitpicky, but the little things stick out. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the sixteenths from 2:48 to 2:51, and working in some of "Jingle Bells" from 2:56-3:00, since it gelled very well with the mix and the Christmasy feel it had. The cymbals from 3:00 until the end sounded very fake (though I'm not a big fan of cymbal usage, since it's so hard to get cymbals to sound good if they're not live), as well as the little horn toots that finished the mix off, since they were in some very high octaves (and I guess a little more exposed). Overall this was pretty well done, and I'm a fan of Joshua's stuff, even if my knowledge of it's limited to "Where Destiny Meets". I thought that some of the notes here didn't vibe well within the broader sense of the mix, but it pretty much achieved both the Kenny G and Christmas styles that Josh was going for. I thought sleigh bells would have worked a lot better here instead of the tambourine to convey more of that holiday feel, but as an instrument they may have been hard to work alongside of a jazz setting, I wouldn't be sure. I enjoyed the second half of this one more than the first half, if only because more original arrangement aspects were featured there, so when I had a problem with some of the notes, it wasn't as strange sans the comparison to Frappe Snowland. -

Oh shit! This is PIMP! I'll edit something else here some other time, but this is the shit! -
OCR01109 - Skies of Arcadia "Horteka Stomp"
Liontamer replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Meh. It'll auto-post or get fixed. Whatever. Apparently Leon just needs a mixer profile page created for himself. Not really feeling much here on the lead synth horn, since it sounded both MIDIish and out of tune. I liked the rest of the instrumentalization though, which made this one a much stronger package.
