After listening to the soundtrack that Hamauzu has put together for this game, I can honestly say for me, it's one of the best soundtracks in videogame history, and definitely puts Hamauzu on the highest pedestal possible for me, as a composer.
Nah, in my opinon it's good but not fantastic at all. Maybe with time.
Personal opinion aside, I'm gonna enjoy playing this on my XBOX 360. Yeah, you heard me.

And how many of those went to replace the many, many units that broke due to the PS2's faulty hardware for the first half of its life?
...eighteen?

Why, so it it. But I still say "best" is subjective. So nahhhhhh!
Don't care, go back to your lair because THOU HATH FAILED!
In other news, best PS2 game of all time?
-
Fixed. While a matter of personal opinion, if you wanted to go be statistics (units sold, game library with high selling titles, specs, etc...), it's up there, but hardly "the best".
/why, yes, I do like to rain on people's parades
It's the best selling game console of all time with over 140 million units.
-
My most used console, still boot it up from time to time for a game of Gradius V or to start another playthrough on one of the many, MANY Japanese RPGs. I own a total of 160 PS2 games and I love pretty much every single one. Fuck, I have wet dreams about developers picking up PS2 developing again.
I love you PS2!

Happy 10th birthday PlayStation 2
The best game console of all time. Let's share our love stories!

This is actually some pretty solid happy hardcore! However it's lacking a bit in a few areas that are important. Firstly, it's really really short. Twice as long would give room for some more expansion and personalization of the theme. What you have is pretty awesome (very denpa) but you could take it a little bit further. I suggest adding some less sparse backing at times, just to pad things out. Maybe ease up a bit on the volume/compression too but man, after that you'll have a winner.
I really hope you resubmit this, we need stuff like this on OCR. Keep it up!

I'm gonna have to agree with my fellow judges. Definitely a great direction to take the source as far as feel goes but the execution is a bit lacking. The arrangement lacks direction, the leads especially seem tacked on top of an ambient track background. I really like some of your ideas but others, less so. The second part of the melody seems kind of shoehorned in there.
Production was decent but most instruments are fighting over the same space. The guitar had a very buzzy tone, while I understand it might've been used more as an "odd effect" the end result sounds flimsy and odd. In the intense section the pads and bass still took all the space so you couldn't really feel the change in intensity, makes the arrangement way more flat than it could be.
For me this shows a lot of promise though, you've been quite creative, but it's not clicking on all levels. I suggest polishing it up, making the production a bit cleaner and nailing down the direction. Good start!

I support this product and/or event!

Tasty source. Your take is (at first) conservative but evolves with time, taking some nice turns. The first half of the track is generally the weak point, the all orchestral intro is a weak link for me because the samples and mixing are especially off. The brass and most articulations in general are just very flat and fake.
The electronic stuff and piano are well handled though and the guitar is a great addition. The production could use a bit more punch and clarity but overall it's solid (except for previously mentioned orchestral elements). The arrangement is really good though, the piano part is a nice change of pace and there's a good direction.
Overall, this just about squeaks by for me. It had weak areas but together it was just enough for me to pass it.

“The soundtrack is first rate and perfect in tone. Its production values and musical accompaniment are easily first rate among the class, and it makes a strong effort to justify its creators’ narrative vision.”
— Kotaku.com about Kaleidoscope
How about that, eh?

This is a good thing, if the panel ever faces dragons she will... probably.. know them somehow?
-
So, we've had some good reviews already and they liked the music!
“… accompanied by an amazing dynamic soundtrack.” “There’s just something about Kaleidoscope, when the world blooms in color and the music picks up, it’s digital joy.” “… the music in Kaleidoscope is fabulous”– GayGamer.net about Kaleidoscope
“The music of Kaleidoscope goes well with the artistic direction, and it’s a pleasure to listen to, never becoming grating on the nerves – which is a flaw that many famous platformers suffer from. It really adds to the atmosphere as you progress through the game collecting colors, and it’s so catchy, you just might find yourself humming along.”– GamerLimit.com about Kaleidoscope
There's also a really extensive interview up at Gamasutra sister-site GameSetWatch by VGM journalist Jeriaska, Check it out here: http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2010/02/gamesetinterview_morsel_kaleidoscope.php

Yeah, I'd like to get a physical copy of the album too so I can see a printed version of my artwork, but 40 dollars is pretty steep for me, and I'm pretty sure Bahamut got his full amount anyway. Is there anything I could do to get my hands on one? :\
Depends on how down you are with blowjobs

Source of the forever, not lying.
Seriously, this is very tight and definitely something that could've been a candidate for a DP. The only thing keeping it back in my opinion is the production, main rhythm guitar lacks body, the mix could use some more bass, the cymbals sound fimsy and the leads could be more upfront. That's just nitpicking though, this is definitely great overall. Creative arrangement of a limited source, good production and superb performance. Nice work!

I'll go ahead and join in then. You really tried hard making the source your own, probably too hard. While the track is groovy the original material outweighs the source and even if it wouldn't, the original material still has the front seat place. Beyond that production is good but the ending (half a fade-out? really?) is kind of weak. You could probably re-work this to better highlight the source and it'd be a pretty good addition to OCR but right now it's just too liberal.

adorable music
Thank you :3
I just had a listen and I really liked the soundtrack. The game looks like a lot of fun too. It's a shame there's no plan for a PC port. I'd buy it for sure if there was (I don't own or really plan on ever owning an Xbox 360 to be honest).Just my opinion, but this seems like the type of game that would sell really well on a digital distribution service like Steam. I know indie titles like Braid did really well there.
Maybe future games will reach Steam, they have XNA distribution in place, but probably not this one.
-
Anyone knows when the PC version will be released?
We're not working on a PC version at the moment and I doubt we will anytime soon, to be honest we're kinda tired of working on Kaleidoscope but we've got many new game ideas just waiting to be realized

They're good. I have to pay import taxes though, that hurts. Probably the same for you. Otherwise awesome!

Never heard of it. The issue is the resolution and the pre-rendered video compression. That's it afaik. FPS is better at 360 even.
