Apparently notch released a new ver that fixes the last one however well see what this one breaks. Currently Multiplay is still waiting for Hey0 to update so they can test and optimize things
sorry folksDon't worry about it. This is par for the course as far as updates are concerned. We'll get over it, 'cept maybe the hardcore addicts. We'll have to inject them with something until the server's back up again.

Yeah, I did it too.
Been here for almost five years, and while I've never managed to make a song, these forums have been the only ones I've persistently come back to. So thanks for many years of amusing threads, story competitions, thought provoking discussion, intelligence destroying trolling, and one really awesome meet-up in San Fransisco (when's the next one guys?)

Question: Should a random guy wandering in the IRC channel, who wants to register on OCR just so he can get on the whitelist be OK? Or is there some sort of ground rules for this whitelist thing we should set? I have no idea if there were any real requirements to the whitelist
It's up to you, given that you're in charge of the server. I'd recommend if you do let him in, to keep an eye on him. Griefers can screw shit up really quickly as the last server proved.

It's off to the North of my tower a little ways. It's a round lake, out in the middle of the hills with water way off from it on all sides. It's incredibly picturesque, I've never seen a lake like it in Minecraft.

Also, I found a lake. Not a sea, not a puddle, not some weird estuary. It's an actual lake, and I'm totally claiming it and moving my house over there. I think I'll make my floating island a resort home.

I'm working on a replica of the Babil Tower from FF4. Can't do the floor plans or anything, but the outside will look cool.

Awesome vid. Have to agree that it was a little pixelated, but overall really awesome job on it. If we ever put a collection of music videos together, I feel like this should be in it.

It's a shame there's no way to fly around... on purpose, I mean.
There is one mod that lets you do that, and at high speed, but I've only seen it used on creative, and it makes Minecraft really buggy.

Well, I'll go see if I can find information that suggest duping causes no issues. Blaming other people all the time, won't help your cause though, not everyone is guilty of the "crimes" you perceive them to be.

I think this is the best way to go. Your argument is a valid one, Damned, but getting super pissed about it isn't solving anything. I think everyone wants to make sure that the server as a whole can function, given that it's been on a hair's breadth of shutting down now for some time. Give it a few days, we'll get things stable and do some research, and find out whether duping is going to really cause problems or not.
On the other hand, I don't find your cries of hypocrisy in the case of the tool glitch (or the torch one for that matter) to be particularly fair. As far as anyone knows, and there's been no presentation of evidence or hearsay to the contrary, those glitches do not affect the game or the server in any way. Caution in regards to duping, regardless of the reliability of Fireslash's sources (which none of us have any way of judging), seems justifiable.
In the meantime, why not open your own mini-server? Right now there seems to be some problems with it (I'm not sure why it won't recognize that the server is open from the same IP at the moment), but I use it constantly when it works as a way to test new construction options before utilizing them elsewhere.

On the old server, there were people asking for blocks of all kinds left and right, and were getting them. Then they bitched about someone duping diamond blocks or smoothstone or even cobblestone for the highway project, despite the fact that it used more blocks than any of the bases anyone had made.
I find it pretty fucking insulting that some of those same people are here saying "oh no, please don't dupe, it ruins the game for everyone" with a straight face while some of us are struggling to get our blocks legitimately, and then find a way to get more purely decoratively blocks to make our bases something other than grey.
If diamond and gold did something besides add two more colors to the pallet, then yeah, that could be a problem. But since everyone already has diamond picks and axes, and can easily repair them just by picking them up again, I can't see what possible harm there is to making two other colors to build with.
I'm not entirely against the admin handing out blocks because as much as it breaks the gameplay, it's still legit (I think.) Duping, on the other hand, is a glitch, and like all glitches there's a real chance of screwing up the game for everybody. I have to agree with The Damned on this one, it's bullshit to complain about handouts when without them we also wouldn't have TNT.

that looks pretty cool =) inefficient in terms of space and materials usage, but it looks awesome.
i'm planning on converting the under-floor room that i have currently into an extensive underwater farm, and converting the area that's currently the farm into a library. i'd happily pay reeds, cacti, iron (ingots or blocks), and bookcases in exchange for lots more wood and sand/glass. i need a ton =) anyone interested? i'm starting to stripmine the local areas for sand, and i definitely don't have much in the way of wood locally.
I can help in the tree department, since my house is above a forest. I won't be on until later tonight though, but when I catch you, I'll give you some. I'm not sure what I'm going to need myself yet, so we can settle the trade at a later point.
